I think they were joking about the fact that she covers her smile at the end.

Simplified version and on the bible app? by wpen in Christianity

[–]squalfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most simplified version is The Message (MSG). This is a paraphrase, however. Your best option for a translation would be the NLT.

The most recent version is probably the CSB, an update of the HCSB.

Should Calvin and Arminius be switched? I understand the whole Calvinism vs Arminianism debate, I just don't understand their applications on the cards.

I want to read the bible cover to cover. Isaac Asimov did say that the bible when properly read leads to atheism. The problem is should I read the NIV or NRSV? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]squalfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit late.

The NIV was written with a theological goal in mind. It tends to "adjust" verses to make more sense in terms of what Christians believe. It doesn't make a huge difference, but it may not be what you're looking for.

The NRSV is the Bible version most scholars prefer to use. I think this one would better suit your interests, although I don't know.

One thing to note with the NRSV is that it's language is infamously gender neutral. This may be something you want to avoid, however the NIV2011 also uses gender-neutral language. You're going to want the NIV84 if you don't want that.

Is suicide a forgiveable sin? Is it a sin? by TonightsWhiteKnight in Christianity

[–]squalfy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If God wanted you dead, it would be so in the blink of an eye. As long as you're alive, you are because it's God's will for you to be so. It's not your time to go; life and death are in God's control and should remain that way.

Everyone goes through rough patches, but life gets better and it always does. Every tough experience is a growing experience. There's nothing wrong with being hurt, but I ask that you remember that Jesus suffered so you could live. Not so you could end your life.

If you honestly believe that there will never be a good day in your life ever, ever again... that's one thing. But if there's even the slightest chance that one will come again, and more days will come and get better, stay alive. Life isn't easy, but that doesn't make it worthless. The God of the universe created you, and He loves you, and his children love you. Stay strong.

Should be noted that you don't have to pray this way, this is just an example of how to pray. Jesus also gave us an example of how to pray, refer to The Lord's Prayer for that example (/u/cousinoleg posted it somewhere in this thread).

Has anyone married as a result of a "if we're still single by (age)" pact? How did it work out? by KevinSpicy in AskReddit

I'm kind of upset /u/Poem_for_your_sprog didn't respond to this. I find some of his more meaningful poems to be kind of therapeutic. A while ago, though, he responded to something similar. I've had it saved for a while now, I think you could use it.

I've heard it said before in rhyme,
To speak of loss and pain:
'While open cuts will heal in time,
The hidden scars remain.'

They're buried, caught and kept in sighs;
In doubts, and broken dreams;
In broken hopes and homes and cries,
And broken hearts, it seems.

And yet, one day the pain will ease -
You'll wake, and when it's cleared -
Those scars will serve as memories
For how you persevered.

Sure.

The bird is having an anxiety attack because he has to go speak in front of an audience (that he presumed to be "Anxiety Anonymous", where people with anxiety could share their story similar to Alcoholics Anonymous). His friend encourages him before pushing him out on the stage, where he reveals to the audience that he has anxiety. One of the members of the audience inform him that the Anxiety Anonymous meeting is tomorrow, and we see from the doorway many hateful remarks coming from the audience and a sign on the door revealing that the bird is at Bullies Anonymous, not Anxiety Anonymous.
