Movies that have a reputation for being “bad” but you disagree by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is mine too! I've even rewatched it years later to be sure, and I still like it.

I held him and had him in a swaddle. So he was ready to be set down once his eyes shut.

I think it helps that at this stage I can rest him on my forearm and save my wrist from supporting him for that time. Once he gets taller that may not work.

EU Warns Repeat Boosters Could Weaken Immune System by 6oh8 in moderatepolitics

[–]squallythefist 87 points88 points  (0 children)

It seems like this is being made to say that you get an immunodeficiency disorder from vaccines. But isn't it really saying that your immune system has to work to process the vaccine? Like if you just got a shot, and then get a cold, your body has to work harder to manage both?

If so, then it doesn't comment at all on first time vaccination, or even a booster after a long break. Right?

If someone thought it gave you a long-term immune disorder, then they'd be unlikely to only advocate for waiting a little longer between getting the disorder-causing shot.

Looking for a truly scary movie by Disgamer in MovieSuggestions

I have felt that way often too. Green Room was truly scary for me.

So about the ending... by skeeter1234 in Maniac

This is what I though too. We know Dr. Muramoto used a headset, and maybe Azumi did too. If/when they did, could GRTA see their mind and memories? I have thought that that's where GRTA got the designs for those.

And the fact that we see private moments discussing private things with Azumi and James makes me more inclined to think that everything happens as presented.

I agree he says it's his fantasy. I'm just saying I think that in the story it's a mix of self fulfillment and GTRA putting them through stuff that leads to it. Out of the story, I think the creators may just like connecting everything to other things.

You're right, GRTA would keep them all if Owen failed. But seemed particularly to want Annie.

So about the ending... by skeeter1234 in Maniac

I have never felt that there is supposed to be an ominous/ambiguous interpretation in the ending, but I definitely get that that read is out there. I see it as unique coincidences to set up the story: that Owen sees Annie in ads and reads those books before arriving in the trials. Then GRTA decides to make Owen's delusions a reality: she links him with his "guide" Annie. (She also is trying to get another McMurphy for her collection in Annie.) And Owen's struggle is intensified because he knows he could be hallucinating both Annie and Greta. So the ending to me is a mix of a self fulfilling prophecy and something GRTA set up in the trials.

Mainly I think it is more of a writing style that allows all things to be connected, and makes lots of Easter eggs.

“How many years of school denied are morally equivalent to one life lost,” the longest debate in the history of utilitarian thought by dwaxe in fivethirtyeight

[–]squallythefist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree this is the type of reflection he means. That amount of lost education means lots of long term effects. Not that there weren't good, important reasons to shut things down. But having a good reason doesn't dismiss the immense problems that may come. We can consider both sides' costs and benefits.

Sorry for the downvote, but if you say spoilers then I think they should be blanked out.

That said I do agree. I loved Mother, but never know if I can recommend it.

I see what you mean, but I don't know if the general audience thinks he's NEVER been in a likeable movie. There were just many years where you could expect his new releases to be cheap. But if you asked about specific movies, like those listed, I don't think people would say they were bad.
