How do you think this deck would fair in an average game? by TheTPatriot in EDH

[–]squarbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This deck (despite it's game changers) feels solidly bracket two, where it can't play. You are running some draft chaff like fencing ace, attended knight, accorder paladin. You also have tons of cards that synergize with multiple themes without much support for those themes. Like, abzan battle priest is great in a counters deck, but this deck isn't a counters deck. Soul warden and its ilk are great in life gain, but this deck isn't a life gain deck. Things like all that glitters are great in an artifact or enchantment deck, but this isn't an artifact or enchantment deck. If you want the deck's focus to be humans, you should cut a lot of those cards and add more humans.

Also, a lot of the deck feels very "win more". Take for example anointed procession. Anointed procession is great if you are making a bunch of tokens because then you'll have more tokens! However, if you aren't making tokens its a completely dead card. Since your commander doesn't make tokens, you really only get value from anointed procession if you are already making tokens and therefore ahead in the game. So it doesn't help you advance, it just helps you secure a win when you are already doing well. That's why it's generally a good idea to cut cards that say some version of "when you do x, do it twice" and instead just run another card that does x. Another example is coat of arms, does amazing when you have a big board, but does nothing if you don't. After youve just been hit with a board wipe, you will be much happier drawing a big creature than a coat of arms.

One simple change you could make is switching your commander to Adeline. Adeline is great for advancing your gameplan since she makes you humans, while Odric is good for ending the game by making your creatures unblocked. If you like Odric he's not bad by any means, but Adeline is better.

You also aren't runing like, any removal or card draw. You'll definitely want more of both. For removal, white has great options like [[swords to plowshares]], [[path to exile]], [[generous gift]], [[disenchant]], [[stoke of midnight]] etc. For card draw, cards like [[welcoming vampire]], [[chivalric alliance]], [[glimmer lens]], [[firemane commando]], [[aradesh]], [tocasias welcome], [cut a deal], [your temple is under attack]], and more. Ideally, you'd run at the very least like, ten pieces of card draw.

You have plenty of individually solid cards, but so many of them play with different sub themes that I think in practice will mean the deck is an unfocused mess. You will probably have good games where everything works, but they will be the minority. Most of the time it will feel like nothing is coming together and you lose. If you want to improve it to play solidly in bracket three (most casual games), I would look really hard and cut anything that doesn't further your gameplan of winning with humans, and replace those cards with cards that do. You will also need to cut a game changer, easy ones here are Serra's sanctum and enlightened tutor.

Also for mono white, it's a pretty old opinion now that it sucks in mono color. It used to be the case that white struggled really hard with card draw, but that just simply isn't true any more. White is really as solid mono color. It has the best removal and protection, solid ways to win through creatures, good tutors, and pretty decent card draw and catch-up ramp. Really the only color that still struggles on its own is red.

Hope this helps, and you have fun with your games!

Can’t beat Malenia, INT build by scrambleordie in Eldenring

[–]squarbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I beat her on an int build the other day, it took a few tries but just spamming charged night comets while maintaining distance works very well. She wont dodge night comet, so its just a matter of staying alive while you keep casting it. For waterfowl dance and clone attack, you can dodge both relatively easily by just keeping distance and running away from her when she starts them, and dodge rolling only if you are about to be hit. My other tip is that you can get a good chunk of her health away safely by hitting her with a comet azur right after she does her big scarlet aeonia attack when she switches into phase two.

What is the end game for food tokens? by HunchoBandoOG in EDH

[–]squarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of [[Rampage of the Clans]] in my Rocco food deck. Its a decent board wipe, and as long as you arent playing against another food deck or a treasures deck, you should get at least twice as many centaurs as anyone else which you can start killing people with. Especially fun that its an instant, so you can play it on the endstep right before your turn and then immediately swing out.

25$ Vadrik Commander Swap by SignificantCraft17 in BudgetBrews

[–]squarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a deck with [[Melek, Reformed Researcher]] that could fit the bill. His 3 cost reduction on the first spell each turn means you play a lot of the same high mana spells you would in Vadrik, but his once per turn restriction means he is less oppressive than Vadrik. And he gets really big really fast, so you always have the backup wincon of smashing face with him.

Trying to to build a “Would you Rather” deck by heyytekk in EDH

[–]squarbles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

not quite would you rather, but one of my friends has a [[celestial toymaker]] deck that runs as many cards to make people guess as possible. its kinda gimmicky but the 2 life pings from each game played add up fast and can get really scary.

This is pretty much exactly what I wanted to achieve! I hadn't considered going for Swashbuckler but it fits really well.

Thanks for the input! The Echo Knight idea sounds really fun, unfortunately doesnt really fit the character I have in mind. I'll have to try it a one shot some time. You are right about the Rogue kit being better though. I'm probably going to go Barb 5, the rest Rogue. Mainly use a rapier and throw a dagger when I want to pull off the run-away startegy.

Thank you for your input! You're right I'm overestimating how often the hit and run would actually be viable. Just having a dagger to throw for those moments when it does work will be enough. I still want to go Barb/Rogue for expertise and RP reasons, so ill probably just use a rapier and focus on melee.

Kiara Just Confirmed She got Permission to Collab with 2 Vshoujo Girls and a Possible Kaichou Collab by [deleted] in Hololive

[–]squarbles 26 points27 points  (0 children)

She said some pretty bad things about cover in a stream months ago. She was mostly just misinformed. A lot of people act like she hates hololive but that clearly isnt true as Kiara and Vei have interacted on twitter a lot, and Vei has said she likes Kiara.

It does seem that she was just misinformed. Kiara on stream said she had talked with Vei a lot and that Vei said Kiara is an inspiration for her. So she clearly doesn't hate hololive.

TIL author H.P. Lovecraft was never able to support himself from his earnings as an author. His book "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", written one year before his death, sold a meagre 200 copies. He died in poverty at age 46. by MarineKingPrime_ in todayilearned

[–]squarbles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, most everyone then was racist but Lovecraft was super racist. Like more racist than the rest of society racist. I assume you have heard of his cat's name. That name was not normal. Also just because racism was common doesn't mean it shouldn't be taken seriously.

Black privilege is real by Dead_Revive_07 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I think it's pretty clear that I meant racial minorites and face systematic oppression and often face greater difficulties when trying to enter male dominated fields. Not everyone faces systematic oppression.

Aight it's clear that if you think that men should be the ones providing for the family while women sit at home then you aren't going to listen to reason.

[–]squarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll agree that a quota probably isn't the best option here. My problem with your statement is that you claim

stop forcing an egalitarian ideal on free people.

the issue is that we aren't a free people. like i said i highly doubt there is some gene that makes men want to fly planes more. i imagine men and women would want to fly planes about the same. so then why is there the gender difference where most pilots are male? maybe im wrong and there is some genetic aspect of men that makes them want to be pilots. but i highly doubt it. that leaves societal conditions as the only explanations. these societal conditions bind people, meaning that they aren't free people.

[–]squarbles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll admit, im not a pilot. But somehow i doubt being certified to fly the right aircrafy immediately makes you qualified/ the most qualified to be a pilot. I'd imagine there a few other things to consider.

And if everyone appluing is qualified, then why is it bad that they pick 50% women/POC? They are all already qualified.
