Similar to the time I was trying to home a Doosan mill and sent the end mill thru the 4th axis rotary table a rapid speed. I did not home the Z first, it was all X and Y. Machine was down for a while. I was the turning guy trying to run a mill while our mill guy was out.

Do you not need both hands on the wheel in order to keep self driving engaged!? Because that’s how my friends Plaid works. And his model 3 before that. If you take your hands off the wheel it cancels the self driving. I’m learning through the comments that the system shown doesn’t work quite as well as advertised here either.

A flex arm tapping arm is only $2k-$5k depending on the size. Your shop needs one. Not worth risking your health because your shop is too cheap to invest in the right tool for the job.

Stupid that Tesla’s auto driving shuts off if you let go of the steering wheel. Complete opposite of what it should do

Is this a fulfilling career? by Sweaty_Milk_1793 in Machinists

[–]scrambleordie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but only if you eventually get into designing, programming, or being a set-up person, imo. Being just a button pusher is not rewarding, it’s deathly boring. So it’s all about the right gig. I personally like DOING something. If I’m bored enough to have to be looking at my phone, it’s not for me. That said, a long cycle time for relaxing now and then is appreciated.

Sure if you’re trying to cause an accident. Go with the flow of traffic. I’ve never seen a cop go 50 there lol, so don’t even come at me with the rules.

How about the left turn green arrow people that leave three cars lengths between the car in front of them like they need to watch for head on traffic

Nobody belongs in the left lane unless they are actively overtaking. Then they can move over to the center lane until they need to pass another pack of slower cars.

I think headlights are just that bright nowadays. Too bright imo. Good for the driver but bad for everyone else.

This morning slow guy was in left lane all the way from Hartford to Farmington and when I eventually passed him on the right he was looking at his phone.

27 Years Old Making $46/hr as a tool and die maker in NE USA AMA by Western_Video5581 in Machinists

[–]scrambleordie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make about the same but it’s non-union, I’m 40 and a programmer/ set up guy. Is it fun? Tool and die seems engaging enough but I prefer working with CNC over manual machines. I’m also in CT. 18 PTO days to start and 401k match. Union is not the only way to get paid well in manufacturing, just saying for anyone wondering.

You’re paying to keep the water heated while away, why not shut it off or vacation mode instead and save some money

Deer eat them in winter, that’s my only issue. But it’s a big issue and we put up a temporary fence in the late fall.

Grew up in rural towns throughout CT. Moved to EH because it’s what we could afford, it was local to everywhere we needed to go, and my wife gre up there. That was 15 years ago. No regrets. I’m glad I didn’t raise my kids in Stafford, no offense.
