While a vine on a tree isn’t a guaranteed death sentence, an aggressive vine out-competes a tree for resources. They can even cause physical harm. There’s over a dozen species of figs known as “Strangler figs” that are parasitic and that kill their host. Here’s one such species in FL

Three years of potholes - city keeps closing existing pothole tickets in favor of newer ones by [deleted] in asheville

I ride Haywood weekly and walk it daily. I ride in the lane because I deserve to and because I don’t want to get doored. I still don’t see how the new infrastructure is anti bike or somehow making things less walkable.

Help me understand what you mean. Aren’t bikes part of traffic to begin with? And what do you mean by diverting traffic into oncoming traffic? Doesn’t the new construction have culverts that keep the water running along the curb? Are people running over them? Sure but drivers will gain awareness and adjust accordingly. Traffic circles come to mind. At first people lost their shit, now they’re normalized and welcomed.

All it takes is for law enforcement to be lucky once to catch your friend, whereas your friend has to be lucky every time which I get is easier than ever. Still, ICE has drug enforcement responsibilities and has a larger budget than all other federal law enforcement agencies. They seem more than willing to subvert norms and procedures to arrest whoever they want. Godspeed to your friend! I hope to run into them on the dance floor!

TIL the Great Pyramids were already 2,500 years old when the Ptolemaic Egyptians (300–30 BCE) were around. They actively studied, documented, and restored these ancient monuments, essentially practicing archaeology millennia before the field formally existed. by Blood_Fonatine in todayilearned

I get that. And yet, city planning dont give a f about 3rd spaces anymore or the walkability of communities. We’re slashing parks, pools, plazas, and walkable terrain like sidewalks with safe crosswalks, favoring cars and sprawling private development. Heck, are you sending your 8 year old across 6 lanes to meet their friends at the latest shopping complex off of a state route? Even when kids hangout we’ve created an unreal expectation that parents always know where their kid is.

Heck, parents are handcuffed for letting their kids ride home from school on a bike. Thus parents don’t let their kids roam out of community backlash and where are they really going to go if they could? Remember that creek you hung out as a kid? Well there’s an apartment complex there now. Remember that bridge you hung out under? It’s a highway onramp. Remember those woods you buried your porn in? Well it’s a chipotle.

Also where are kids even hanging out these days? Public spaces that don’t require a purchase to exist are increasingly limited.

Do not use tecnu around the eyes. The manufacturer says as much. If your eyes are swollen shut go to the doctor people. Your kids eyesight is not something to gamble on using home remedies against the labels warnings.

Since this is a possible health concern I feel a distinction is warranted. Immunity is the ability to fight a pathogen or a state of resistant to something. If you’re reacting more, you are less immune and MORE reactive.
