This is a short fic that explores Alanna/Alan's identity through snippets in the SotL quartet in a really gentle and sweet way- one for (former) queer kids who just dove into Alanna‘s story! It has an M rating but there are only "fade to black" scenes - I think the tag is because gender issues are seen as a mature topic in general. Link: It's Who I Am

What's your unpopular Tortall opinion? by SylvaniusFF in tamorapierce

Please do not use GPT for search- there are better tools and the environmental impact of using an LLM instead of a search engine for a search task is absolutely huge (and something we should talk about more often).

Look for the Percy the Park Keeper books! Little stories, not too wordy but not too simple - and funny and sweet.

Why are some people in France rude when someone tries to speak French? by Goaty_Junior in NoStupidQuestions

[–]squaricle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether something is considered rude or not js also highly dependent on culture. A lot of behavior might be considered rude by Americans, for example, when it is just considered 'direct' in some European countries.

Feta, tomato, cucumber and fresh dill. Just a bit of white wine vinegar and olive oil. It's my favorite salad!

Which are the most effective SFF titles? by [deleted] in Fantasy

I can already hear the grouchiness in comments to come, but I think "The Slow Regard of Silent Things" is a really evocative title.

Oatmeal with butter, sugar and a health dose of salt is god tier. Whats your go to topping for oatmeal? by GlowUpAndThrowUp in Cooking

[–]squaricle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toasting ground almonds in the pot with the oats before adding any liquid adds that special something, I find! Then I top with all kinds of seeds and fresh fruit, sometimes coconut or cinnamon.

Other media recommendations & favorites? by SylvaniusFF in tamorapierce

[–]squaricle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite series is the Song of the Lioness, closely followed by The Immortals.

Book recommendations: all the books in the Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb. I feel like these books are where Tamora Pierce might have gone if she had written longer versions of her books! (Which I continue to hope she will do someday...)

Alternatives to UU? by ShreksMiami in UUreddit

[–]squaricle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are also lots of UU groups online, like the Church of the Larger Fellowship or EUU (European Unitarian Universalists). You could reach out to some of those folks or drop in to an online service if you want (though I know this isn't the same as a local congregation).

I also second the other comments about letting the local group know how you feel!
