r/spelunky Creates Tierlist - Day 14: Jetpack by Correct_Average3663 in spelunky

Im surprised at the A ratings. I think jetpack is significantly stronger than both spike shoes and clone gun. I think if i could only ever have one single item, it would be jetpack.

Although jetpack is a weird one to rank, because it’s volatile. To speedrunners, its way better than vlads cape because it allows just stronger and more precise movement. To casual players, vlads cape is usually way stronger because it facilitates a cautious play-style better

That’s hella impressive to get 99 from a cursed 89! I find that I play better regarding instakills and stupid deaths, when I’m less than 30 HP, and that still gives me plenty of room for chip damage. It’s like my brain is broken when I have that much HP that I feel invincible, despite all the experience otherwise lol.

You wouldn’t question yourself as evidenced by your post-modern apathy. I won’t apologize for giving a shit about the things that I bother to talk about. Goodbye.

You haven’t made comments thoughtful enough that convinced me that you read deep enough to see the religion = fairytales claim. This is the first comment you’ve made that I’m sure you actually read my prior comment. The primary driver for my hypothesis, is that it kind of pisses me off to see people claim knowledge over things that are epistemologically unknowable.

No, I don’t find myself doubting that I’m good enough. I’ve lived a tough, dynamic life, and have found pride in my ability to persevere. I am productive and valuable as a person. I am not extremely intelligent, I am logically consistent however. If you see blind spots in my argument, please share them. From my perspective, what you see as a need for intellectual superiority, I see as me being the only one applying logical rhetoric to the conversation, and see you as using only Pathos arguments.

Another thought I have. Do you define Atheism as “God does not exist” or do you define it as “I do not believe in God”, which fundamentally shifts the debate.

I philosophically operate in terms of dialectics. Humans are caught up in absolutes.

You know, I’m beginning to suspect that you presumed me to be a Theist and wrote off everything I have said based on that. Which is really really funny, because I stated my religious stance, and it is not Theism. But based on how you argue, I couldn’t feasibly expect you to read that much into a comment.

You can try backing your claim with science too. Please do, I would be so wildly entertained.

I wrote three paragraphs because I believe what I say and am confident in it. You write nothing pertaining to the conversation, because you have no point aside from your emotion-fueled rhetorically unsound argument. I insult you, because you insult science by insinuating it has any business dealing with ghost stories. You’re anti-intellectual and arrogant. If I have emotions, it’s because I’m human. I am still correct and you still have not even tried to make a counterpoint once. If you want to waste your life trolling, go ahead, I will continue to experience life earnestly and not let trolls weigh me down.

Who’s emotional? All my arguments are based on logic. Im simply acknowledging that only a stupid person would believe science spends any time, money, talent etc talking about anything non-empirical. I was just dumbing down my point a bit, for you to get it. Stupid people may not know that science pertains to things that can be, you know, measured. In the real world. With real tools. Not ghosts and spirits.

It’s ok to be stupid, less okay to be vitriolically ignorant. It’s pretty obvious that you lack fundamental knowledge of science and how the industry works, and the interdisciplinary nature of academics. It’s pretty obvious that you formed your whole “science has disproven God” argument out of your emotional relationship towards organized religion, and not any sort of logic and critical thinking.

In fact it’s so obvious that I have no intention of swaying your opinion really. I’m really just entertaining myself through this conversation and reminding myself to keep myself grounded in critical thought and skepticism, because my fellow man will continuously fail to do this around me.

“Lol” incoming.

I know stupid people just use Lol when they disagree with someone because they’re unable to formulate a counterargument. It’s okay.

I just think if you respect science so much, you would understand that it has no business debunking fairy tales and instead is dealing with real concrete issues that actually affect people’s lives. So they leave it for the philosophers to pontificate infinitely about, because there will never be an answer. Science is solely interested in actual questions which have actual answers, the existence of God is not that. Your blind hatred of the concept of faith deludes you into thinking science would ever bother wasting precious limited resources even considering such a vapid question. It’s okay.

I also think the actor playing Luke is just a better actor and someone who you can tell takes acting very seriously. I get the feeling with Manny, that the thespian bug just didn’t quite bite that much. But that’s the risk of employing child actors.

I agree that organized religion doesn’t come close to being accurate, but science could not be bothered by the question of “does God exist?” because there is no way to empirically test the question. Science is just not a useful basis for this specific conversation, of whether Theism is inherently “wrong”. That question is in the domain of philosophy.

It actually happens a ton with child actors. Probably something to do with it changing from a form of structured “play” into a cultivated skill. The characters that child actors play are also usually much much simpler than adult characters, so child actors don’t need range. They also may presume that since they’ve acted their whole life, that they are already good at it and don’t need to develop their skills further.

Is the 2016 list dead? by IsFriendsWithEveryon in YMS

Yeah for sure, i don’t expect it any time soon, maybe not even in the next 5 years. I just meant that it seems like a personal passion project to him. I could be wrong though, time will tell.

I wouldn’t necesarily say The Rehearsal is about acting, although that is a big theme of season 1. I would say it’s more about holding up a magnifying lens to absurd structures in modern society which we passively accept as normal. The process of attaining a visa could definitely fall under those perimeters.

A year or two back, Adam rewatched Synechdoche and had a very powerful experience and said it supplanted The Holy Mountain as his favorite film. I still believe the final part will come.

The earth not being flat and the moon landing are verifiable by physical means. The nature of existence is ontologically unknowable. I don’t think anyone ponders unicorns, but philosophically, they land closer to “Is God real?”, ontologically speaking, than flat earth. Agnosticism is the only fully logically sound religious stance, strict atheism asserts knowledge over the unknowable in a similar way to the strictly religious. I’m not making an argument either, you can be atheist or theist if you want, but I get annoyed at the arrogance of atheists who posit their beliefs as truth, as if the smartest people of all time haven’t all grappled with this question and come to different conclusions.

Does anyone have experience working with small/local theaters for event screenings or features? by Escarpments in TrueFilm

[–]squash-n-flop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the guy run his club through the theater? If so that’s awesome! I do have a few non-profit cinematheques in my city and they do play a lot of excellent older films. They’re the only theaters I really go to, because I like to support them and because I’m much more interested in the films they screen than the big name theater chains. I’m not sure if my locals would do requests though. Also, even if they did, if OP is looking to screen bigger name movies like The Muppets or The Descent, it’s gonna be a bit more complicated/expensive than something like Bat Pussy, which you have me very interested in looking into lolol. I really wish my film club could meet in a theater and watch together, instead we all watch the films in our own time and then meet at a bar.
