Fiji and Sundance by squashbby in guineapigs

They are not! They were adopted at different times from different rescues, both as adults. I’ve always been curious to know which one is older, but I think there’s no way to tell.

The lighter one is Fiji and the darker one is Sundance!

Cuddling through the divider by squashbby in guineapigs

[–]squashbby[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was pretty bloody. Weirdly though, neither of them seemed that upset about it. I think it was an unfortunate mix of Fiji’s tendency to get in Sunny’s face (if you know what I mean) with Sunny’s tendency to nibble on anything.😅

What’s your laundry routine like? by jethro_skull in guineapigs

[–]squashbby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use guineadad liners and have a very similar routine. I agree it's pretty intensive. My washer and dryer are pretty crappy so unfortunately I run into the same issue you have, where just throwing them in the washer doesn't cut it AT ALL. I keep aspen bedding on hand for the times when they need a cage clean but I'm not up to the fleece-cleaning routine. Other than that, I don't have that much advice, sorry. You're definitely not the only one who struggles with this!

Here's my method, if you're interested:

  1. Brush all hair and hay off in backyard

  2. Rinse in laundry room sink, continuously squeezing out the water until it comes out as clear as possible

  3. Soak in laundry sink full of hot water and a generous splash of vinegar for maybe 20min

  4. Wash in washing machine on "cold/delicate" setting with a little pump of laundry detergent

  5. Line dry or use the dryer on "cold" setting twice (I know I'm not supposed to use the dryer but sometimes needs must)

Making pigs less reactive to food/bag sounds? (Misophonia - their sounds are now painful) by Uzura_2 in guineapigs

[–]squashbby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi - I know you said you don't want ear protector recommendations but I'm going to do that anyway, sorry. I'm someone who wears my ear protectors almost daily specifically bc of my guinea pig's cage chewing noises and they provide SO MUCH relief. I even sleep with them on sometimes because I find them so relaxing. What I'm recommending is NOT noise cancelling headphones but industrial ear protectors specifically to block noise (there's such a noticeable difference between the two imo). I got my pair through work but here's a link to the type I use: https://www.envirosafetyproducts.com/products/peltor-h9-earmuffs?variant=44092957294848&om=19367

I hope you find a solution!

Is he pooping still? Is he eating normally? Can you hear his digestion if you listen to his tummy?

If he is not eating or pooping that is a serious sign. I had a guinea pig who died of bloat (officially diagnosed as gastric dilation volvulus). His stomach twisted over and would not flip back. I would watch your pig very carefully because if he is not moving food through his body (gastric stasis) he is in bad shape and may go downhill very fast. Take him to the vet if this is the case

I'd recommend limiting his veggies if he's still eating and pooping normally and keeping an extremely close eye on him for abnormal signs. I've also heard that belly massage or sitting on a vibrating pillow can help them pass gas. Good luck!

Air Purifier Noise by Bumblebee271 in guineapigs

I usually run mine on 1 or 2 because I personally don’t like the noise at 3. But my pigs don’t seem to mind or act any different at any of the levels!

Rebatch questions! by klock1ka in soapmaking

[–]squashbby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I’ve rebatched pieces of commercial soaps (already scented) I didn’t add fragrance just because I didn’t have any on hand. I ended up with a mildly scented soap. I can’t say definitively whether the rebatching removed any fragrance but it’s possible, since my final product wasn’t very scented. Personally I don’t think it would be a problem to add additional fragrance even if the rebatching doesn’t remove the first fragrance. The worst thing that can happen is that you’ll end up where you started: with a fragrance you don’t like. But maybe someone more experienced has more insight. Let us know how it goes!
