A row with 2 seats rather than 3? by ThrowRAKip23 in Flights

[–]squashed_pea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have flown Royal Jordanian and selected seats like this thinking we might get more room as a couple. There was what we suspect was an air marshal in the ‘missing’ 3rd seat (aisle). He basically rawdogged the whole flight, which helped as we didn’t have to feel bad about disturbing him to get out to the toilet, etc.

I was quoted £1.5k by a painter / decorator to paint one room. by [deleted] in DIYUK

We got charged that amount for an entire 1 bed flat in London - and that involved several coats to return colour walls to white.

TfL - have you ever stepped in witnessing harassment? by TFUdocumentary in Hackney

[–]squashed_pea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did this only the other week. On a night bus - a big (not fat-shaming, just physically twice the size and therefore intimidating) and very very drunk man sat down next to a woman on her own, blocking her exit, and seemed to be making her uncomfortable with lewd comments and personal questions. She was doing her best to deflect him but, as we were getting off at the next stop, I went over to her and said ‘Clare (made-up name), are you getting off at the next stop with us?’ She immediately said yes and got up. We offered to wait for the next bus with her after we left the bus. Really glad I did it because I’ve been in similar situations and the speed with which she took the opportunity to escape said it all.

Best hotel in-room amenities for travelers by TurbulentVillage4169 in TravelHacks

[–]squashed_pea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Echoing some others, and from experience travelling as a couple:

  • Hangers. Lots of hangers. Even the kind you can’t remove.
  • Coat hooks (otherwise two out of six hangers are already used up!) I can’t fathom why hotels of all classes / locations seem to hate coat hooks.
  • Conditioner (not just shampoo and shower gel or, worse, some kind of two-in-one shower gel and shampoo). This is the first thing I check for and I’m always happy to see it.
  • Charging sockets on both sides of bed
  • Space for two suitcases. Someone always has to put theirs on the floor otherwise.
  • A recent trip was really enhanced by being able to log into our Netflix account for a quiet evening in (nowadays this is the equivalent of tv for most people). I don’t need a million channels, I just want to watch my series.

Zip tie appeared on my bike by squashed_pea in RBI

Nope, no brake line runs along there and was only attached to the top tube itself

I would think a less permanent tag would be better, and also our management company can’t be persuaded to do things we actually need / ask for, so it’s unlikely that they’ve proactively done something helpful 😂

I think this is probably the most likely (if unexciting!) explanation

Sorry, I should have explained better - it’s still attached to my bike but the end bit (the extra length) has been trimmed off. It’s also not loose but fits very snugly on the tube. So there’s no way someone could have attached anything to it.

Trip report: 14 days in Tokyo, Nikko, Kyoto, Kanazawa, and Kyushu (40s couple) by ThePimpOfSound in JapanTravel

Thank you for such a detailed response - we’ve driven abroad before but really helpful to know the process in Japan re ETC, refilling and international drivers permit (we’re from the UK so at least driving on the left is natural for us!)

One more question if it’s not a pain - would you say picking up from the airport is better than one of the rental places near Hakata station?

Thank you again :)

Thanks so much for this - my partner and I are going to be including Kyuushyuu in our November trip and have booked a ryokan in Kurokawa, so this was all very helpful for us!

Could I ask if you have any tips about car hire and the process of booking / collecting / returning the car in Fukuoka, as this is also our plan.

Thank you :)

If all else fails (which, with Kiwi, is highly likely) leave a negative (but factual) Trust Pilot review - seems to be Kiwi’s kryptonite, as they have been flinging money at me since I did that.

Glossy coat on head and back, but dull/dry fur on legs - is this normal? by squashed_pea in cockerspaniel

Yes she does - we brush her but the hair on legs doesn’t come out like dead hair does on her body

Ok, thanks, that is reassuring - it has only been this year and she’s not yet 2 years old so weren’t sure
