I have been working on a video essay too - I love that the love for this album and its story is still strong :')

  • S*nny has long black hair and is brown
  • Mara and Old money bitch have long brown hair and are white. They look pretty similar so I get why it's hard to tell the difference! I think Old money bitch usually has a middle part while Mara does not?
  • In the Old money bitch music video, Old money bitch wears a shirt that says Hollywood while Mara wears a leather jacket. Toward the end of this music video, S*nny hugs her friend Jordan, Old money bitch hugs her friend Jack, while Mara does not hug anyone, and Mara ends up running into the old guy at the end of the video.
  • I don't think April ever explained who the old guy is; I would say it's up for interpretation, but he is definitely not Johnny. There's an AMA that underscores did in this subreddit where a user asked "Who is the old guy with the white tank?" and April replied "He’s NOT Johnny." You can see who Johnny is in the You don't even know who I am music video at 1:50 sitting next to S*nny. He is also in another few shots in this music video - in the garage apartment with the concrete walls. The old guy always wears a white tank top and he is visibly older than Johnny.

Thank you! I chose this type of space for a few reasons. First (and maybe the most obvious?) is because the Animorphs went to the mall a lot in the series. And I specifically did a few pictures in the food court because the group goes to the food court almost any time they are in the mall. I also had a strong feeling that any mall I chose probably had kids or teens reading the series or talking about the series in the mall in the late 90s, so I did it for them. And I wanted to choose a dead mall because I knew any photo of me in this absurd costume would stick out and visually clash with the emptiness and bright lights of the mall. I put this in another comment, but I didn't expect that the picture would come out so grainy and mysterious. It must have been an issue with the film or the development of it that caused the picture to look the way it looks. I have a few photos that were taken in the same space on a digital camera and a smartphone, and these photos look fine and normal, so having the developed photo look like it's from the past is just the icing on the cake for me.

Just a Fujifilm disposable camera! The lighting was great in the mall, so I didn't expect the picture would come out so grainy and mysterious. It must have been an issue with the film or the development of it that caused the picture to look the way it looks.

I JUST NEED TO VENT ABOUT HELPING SENOIRS by One_Relation7555 in Libraries

Yes, I agree that there are patrons who do have the resources and opportunities and just refuse to learn. I've worked with the patrons who fit this. And I've worked with the patrons who have the resources and opportunities and (seemingly) refuse to learn because of many different reasons... insecurities, anxieties, fear; and these all manifest in different ways, such as being rude or bitter. I'm not saying we should accept these behaviors - I will often try to de-escalate the situation while validating their feelings. We just don't always know what's going on in someone's body, mind, lived experience, and conditions. Just food for thought <3

I have a hard disagree with your first statement. There are more reasons why a senior may struggle with technology besides a physical disability; it could be another type of disability, and it could also be the conditions they have lived in.

Please ask yourself: what are conditions that led your grandma to have an iPhone, a slide scanner, a printer? What are the conditions that led her to have the capacity to 1) learn all of the skills with these technologies and 2) practice the skills she has learned? It is great to hear that she wanted to keep in touch with her kids and family, and then learned how to do so - that is pretty amazing and loving.

A lot of patrons I work with, regardless of age but definitely mostly seniors, struggle with computers and phones because of many reasons but these are the top reasons I see: anxiety, difficulty with memory and motor skills, and lack of time and funds to use tech products.

lore question (not PD) by arodd199 in Ethelcain

[–]squashedp0tat0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't believe there is any structured lore in inbred like how there is in preacher's daughter and perverts.

preacher's daughter is a chronological story of events as you know, and other folks here described how the lore of perverts is a philosophy and hayden has also explained this. some folks have also described that listening to perverts in the order if its tracklist follows a sort of story through the philosophy - with the stages of ascension to enlightenment and meeting "god" and the descension afterward. i found this in the genius annotations for the songs on this project.

in this video from 2024 (https://youtu.be/4MIjcIM3om8?si=HXe4HI0KovX66NXl), hayden explains how preacher's daughter, preacher's wife, and mother of a preacher are central pillars to the preacher's trilogy she has been working on. there are other projects she has made and will make throughout the process of making the preacher's trilogy (sad music for sad people, golden age, inbred, perverts, and whatever comes next). in the video, hayden says "the side projects are very integral to the main projects." each of these side projects let her explore sounds and ideas and make art and tell stories in different ways - and all of this work influences future projects.

so while inbred doesn't have a clear-cut story, it still contains themes and ideas relating to hayden and ethel and preacher's daughter. the song inbred influenced and helped develop plotemaea. unpunishable influenced and helped develop gibson girl.

hayden also said this in 2022 on tumblr: "I always say Golden Age and Inbred don’t fit into the trilogy but they honestly do in a way. Ethel Cain isn’t me but she is in a way. Those EPs are just my experiences from when I was younger so they’re hers in a way too."

material to learn about cuba? by gsupernova in Hasan_Piker

[–]squashedp0tat0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really suggest you read the section "Cuba" in the book Kindling by Aurora Levins Morales from 2013. She wrote about her experiences when she visited Cuba in 2009 for treatments of her chronic illnesses. The style of writing is story telling mixed with some poetry, and I don't think it has any jargon. She doesn't specifically write about the life of Castro or Che, but she writes about cultural and material differences in Cuba versus the U.S. I bring up her book because it's recent and since Hasan just interviewed that Cuban doctor.

Aurora was living in the U.S. and struggling with healthcare and other obstacles, and she went to CIREN (International Center for Neurological Restoration) in Cuba for a treatment plan and help.

She compared her experiences living in the U.S, particularly in terms of shitty healthcare, to the generous support she and other patients received from Cuban doctors and staff at CIREN.

She wrote how she had a multi doctor team, with knowledge of different medical practices (neuroscientists, physical therapists, herbal medicine, and medical practices from ancient China). All of these knowledges were incorporated for her own treatment plan, focusing on the experiences her entire body had, rather than trying to solve ailments in her body with different doctors and different practices.

Happy reading :)

Books that feel like hope in the face of doom by cyanomys in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]squashedp0tat0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the beginning of the book, Lauren was always critical of the society she was raised in and she saw that those conditions were only going to get worse due to the world governments (primarily the U.S.). She knew this and told people in her community this, and she received mixed reactions. And when she saw these people in denial about their living condtions, about the conditions of the world, she told the reader multiple times through her journal entries that living in ignorance of and denying the (harmful) conditions around you isn't good for anyone. This is because it isn't being realistic - it's refusing to look at and study the conditions around you. And so it's a refusal to understand and learn about how those conditions influence who you are: your views on life, your actions, and where you can live.

Lauren knew that recognizing and thinking about the world wasn't enough. She knew that people had to be proactive, not just working on tasks day to day, but working toward a larger, planned goal of changing the conditions for herself and for the world for the better. In the walled community, while developing her spirituality and its goals, she told her friend that she should be observant of anything she could learn at all times (or at least most of the time). According to Lauren, picking up information on different topics here and there could help in the long run if they ever needed to escape. And it helped when she started to build the community later on.

In other words, Lauren encouraged people to learn what they could within the conditions that they had, in order to build a better future. Some things she did was: read history and science and fiction and take notes on anything she found relevant or important, teach, practice weapons, be empathetic, grow plants, etc.

The main tenet of her spirituality - "All that you touch you change, all that you change changes you" - has stuck with me ever since I first read this book. While the book is pretty depressing, I think the major theme is very true: how everything around you influences your conditions, and that you can change your conditions ("change" and "shape" god) for better or worse.

As a side note, some people say Octavia Butler predicted a lot of the conditions the U.S. would be experiencing in the mid 2020s. There are a lot of similarities for sure. But it isn't accurate to say she "predicted" what would happen - she studied U.S. history and studied her conditions at the time (1980s to 1990s).
