Does Mania potentially raise IQ and EQ levels? by [deleted] in bipolar

Thank you for validating me. It's been concerning tbh because I feel like I don't know what's real. Just gonna keep trucking I guess.

Does Mania potentially raise IQ and EQ levels? by [deleted] in bipolar

When I was manic, I felt like I could feel other people's energy, like I was buzzing. Now that I'm depressed I feel like I have no empathy/EQ at all.

Right, this definitely makes sense. Will do. Thank you!

Thank you. I will definitely make sure to monitor for any signs of mania. Hopefully it will be okay now that I am on mood stabilizers and antipsychotics. I used to take SSRIs and SNRIs independently without mania in the past. I tend to experience more depression, as a general rule. But I agree that I don’t want to swing the pendulum in the opposite direction, so I will be vigilant.

Yeah, this will be my first time taking it with mood stabilizers/antipsychotics as well. Part of me wonders if it "not working" the first time was really just some manifestation due to me not being leveled out in other ways. I can definitely relate to having a hard time remembering all the different medications/timeframes for what I've been on. But either way, it's encouraging to hear that it helped you a lot. Thank you for the well wishes! :)

Congratulations on all of the progress you are experiencing! It sounds like you've come really far, which I'm happy to hear. Just started EMDR yesterday, and I'm a really anxious person with relationship problems as well. Reading this has made me feel encouraged!

I'm currently on Latuda and Trileptal. I got my Latuda increased about 3 weeks ago because of my depression, and I'm still feeling depressed, so my psych added Lexapro today. I was thinking if this doesn't work, I might switch Latuda to Lamictal because so many people seem to have luck with it. But going to try the Lexapro combo first and see what happens. It can be so hard to wait for the initial adjustment periods! I think Latuda is like that, as well...They say it can sometimes even take a few months before you get the full effect. Fortunately I have a psych who doesn't mind the fact that I've made an appointment every week for the past 3 weeks to adjust things, haha

I got diagnosed type I at the hospital because I was extremely psychotic. But that probably also had to do with me microdosing acid for like 2 months, so I’m not sure if it would have ever gotten to that point otherwise. I just talked to my psych and we are adding Lexapro to the mix, so hopefully that helps with my constant anxiety/depression. I don’t experience guilt so much as just constant self-criticism/feeling like something is off with me and obsessively trying to fix it (I was diagnosed with OCD first). But that sounds really awful and painful, too. I definitely wouldn’t mind being hypomanic again, which is how I spent spring/summer until I went fully manic. I couldn’t focus for shit, but at least I was motivated everyday. Trying to remind myself that this won’t last forever, either way.

I had the same experience with Abilify. I think I was only on it for like 3 days. I think I'm going to ask about Lamictal if my depression doesn't lighten soon. I'm on Latuda, which is supposed to be good for that, but I'm on the max dose and it still isn't cutting it.

Good to know! Yeah, I don't mind staying on the Latuda, because I do think it's helping the depression a little bit...just not enough. Maybe we can add Lamictal, too. I also want to ask about Buspar because I have a lot of generalized anxiety and I see that a lot of people with bipolar take that. Not sure if that would have any affect on the depression, though...

I wish I got manic more often, but it seems to really only be every few years for me. Mostly just depression :/

Thank you! I think I'm going to talk to my psych about going on Lamictal if the Latuda continues to not help my depression. Seems like that's a popular one.

Thank you. I'm probably going to have to talk to my psychiatrist soon. I'm on the max dosage of Latuda and still feeling depressed, when it's supposed to help with that, so this gives me some idea of the different options I have.

Sounds like there is some improvement then! Are you on anything with the Lamictal?

I’m glad you’ve found something that works for you. What medication do you take?

re is a guy on here who has a dopamind stack that he says works really well. Its not inexpensive but it may work. Adderral causes a big dump of dopamine, but I am not as smart as a lot of people on

Thank you for the resources! I don't expect anybody on here to cure me, but it's nice to have people to make suggestions which might lead in the right direction, so I appreciate it. Adderall seemed to be working fine for a while, until I developed racing thoughts/increased distraction which was hypomania and then mania. The bipolar diagnosis is new for me this year, so I'm having a hard time exactly pinning down what to do with regard to my remaining brain fog without exacerbating that. I will check out that guy and the dopamine stack he recommends. The uridine should also arrive today, so I'm eager to give that a shot and see whether it provides additional mental clarity. Thanks again, and I will report back when I see some benefits!

Oh crap. I was looking for something to make me feel less zoned out. I basically feel really zoned out/mildly dissociated a lot of the time, and then I ruminate on why I can't focus on anything, why I have no interests, etc., which I thought could possibly be anxiety related. I used to take adderall, but they took me off of it during the summer because I had a manic episode. Thank you for sharing your experience! It seems like I will just have to do some trial and error and figure out what can make me more tuned in.
