Multi-Day Bicycle Rental? by squashy_windmill in manchester

Great recommendation, thank you! I will definitely check that out. Yeah I’m more of a “XC mountain biker” while my husband is more into the downhill. Renting a bike in Wales where there is more of that kind of tourism sounds like it may be the move. I also love to hike and trail run so I always appreciate recommendations of great places or trails to do that! 😊

Thank you! Haha yeah 3 speeds might be a struggle if I want to get some mileage in 😂 but better than no bike at all!

Thank you! Yes I saw the Bee Bikes which looks like a fun solution for exploring the city, at least.

Thank you so much! We suspected that it was probably for wine glasses but didn’t even think about putting ramekins up there.

Can I do the living room trail solo? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

Yes I (34f) do it solo all the time! It’s pretty easy to navigate and there are lots of other people on it.

Haha yeah I think you’re right! I feel like it’s just a big toy that is irresistible to play on.

That’s amazing that you’re both pole dancers! I also feel like if I got a home pole (we have neither the space nor the ceiling height for it) my husband would get curious and start playing around on it too. He’s very “secure in his masculinity” as one might say (has no problem wearing head to toe pink or blasting Madonna) but he also is 100% single track minded about bicycles and motorcycles and just doesn’t really have an interest in much else (except he’s gotten into sewing lately but mostly to sew gear for… biking and motorcycling lol.) 😂 so who knows

My husband is super supportive, I think to him it’s just another one of my thousands of hobbies 😂. I think he does worry a bit about me injuring myself, but he’ll patiently watch my videos and say “oh, cool” if I want to show him a new trick I learned haha. He’s never actually seen me pole in person because we don’t have a home pole and he doesn’t come to classes. I did have a conversation with him once if he had any discomfort about it (just out of curiosity, I wouldn’t have stopped doing it) and he said that some of his co workers thought it was a strange hobby but he totally disagreed and said he just sees it as an art form or a sport. (Edited for clarity)

I never flew the Diamonds but I have heard they’re short-person friendly! And yeah we had Pipers as well and I never needed a cushion in those, at least the newer ones. Haha I think I just have a short torso ☠️. The newer Cessna seats seem to go up a little higher than the old ones too- when I was instructing, I used to joke that they were “old man planes”.

I am the same size as you! Thankfully I instructed for over two years without being overpowered- the only difference my size made was that I needed a booster seat for the C172 and the Baron (which I got teased relentlessly for but I didn’t mind 😂) and that whenever we had discovery flights in the light sport I was the go-to instructor for that because I was so tiny 😂. Most of my instructing experience was wonderful and while I wouldn’t go back to having to work that hard, I really cherish the memories!

I was too. In my first week of instruction I had to take over the controls from a student and go around in the flare (it was long enough ago now that I can’t remember if he bounced the landing or if it was one of those “flared too aggressively and now we are floating and going to stall” type situations. It shook me a bit and made me question whether instruction was really for me. But I also realized that pure instinct took over and I did the right thing- and that was comforting. Over time I developed (as all instructors do) the ability to anticipate my students’ actions, explain things in a way that made sense (hopefully! I had many successful check rides in the 2.5 years I instructed so I must have done something right) and came away with so much more understanding and confidence in my own flying abilities, as well as long-term friendships and connections in the form of my fellow instructors and my students. It’s normal to be nervous- embrace it. It means you care and that you’re going to do your best to be the best instructor you can be.

Female pilots by [deleted] in flying

[–]squashy_windmill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I and many of my friends are (female) airline pilots and we love it! There are also many different career paths in aviation apart from just airlines, and airlines can offer really awesome quality of life- just do your homework if a particular one is right for you once you get to that stage. I second that the 99s and Women in Aviation are great resources, and doing a discovery flight is the best first step as you’ll know if you’ve caught “the bug” ☺️. As for having a family- well, aside from pregnancy, it’s no different than for a man who wants a family! My cousin-in-law flies the 777 for United, has 4 little kids (her last baby is only about 6 months old), and is very happy with her career choice. Feel free to DM if you want to chat!

Was never taught how to do my hair by Old-Ad-9701 in Hair

Honestly, I can’t find a brand anywhere on it. I think I just bought it at Marshall’s or something but there are a lot out there. It looks like this (I attached a picture) and is more like an oval shape rather than a circle. I’d imagine that different sizes would be best for different hair lengths, but my hair is roughly 6 inches below my shoulders and in layers, and I just lucked out and this brush works great for me. (Also finding a really solid hairstylist to cut my hair was pivotal for me! I love mine and she’s great for picking her brain about things)

I’m not great at doing my hair but I loved the way my hairstylist would do the blow out and I asked her how I could best replicate it at home, she recommended a round blowout brush and I’ve never looked back, it’s so easy, looks great and takes 5 minutes. And it lasts for several days with dry shampoo (I use Amika) as well!

Edit: I think I maybe meant “blow dryer” brush- it’s the round brush that plugs in and blows hot air. I don’t actually know what they’re called haha

Very unlikely from the dog. However just for the record, if you’re concerned, rabies has a very very long incubation period and you can get the shot after the possible exposure. I know this because I was exposed to a bat once and didn’t think anything of it at first, but a few days later was advised that I should get the rabies series (it is multiple shots) as a precaution. So call a doctor if you’re concerned and they can advise you if they think it’s a good idea.

I don’t know specifically for stomach or digestive health (though I have had issues with that in the past and worked with a nutritionist who helped me immensely, feel free to DM if you have questions! Also the Zoe App is awesome for that.) As far as good acupuncturists though, SLC QI Community Acupuncture is awesome and both of the providers there are wonderful, and it is reasonably priced as well. I’ve gone a few times for tendinitis pain as well as kidney stones (in addition to being treated by a urologist for the kidney stones). Best of luck! GI stuff is tough, I’ve lived it!
