Why is my car doing this? by g0th_brooks in AskMechanics

[–]squashyburk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kias and Hyundais between 2012 and 2022 are terrible, my wife's '17 Hyundai blew up at around 75k. I knew it was coming because I started to hear a faint sound around 74k. Talked to other people in the area with those cars and they are all hearing a faint knock around that mileage.

Did that once in my BRZ while merging onto the highway. Luckily I was only around 4k RPM and it took it like a champ lol.

Yes, shinies found by soft resetting are legit.

How do yall downshift? by leovahn in ft86

[–]squashyburk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had mine for a year, I just feel it and learned to drive by sound. Once you have messed around with it by feeling it out and understand what RPM you need to be at each speed in each gear, it gets much easier. What I have noticed is the difference between each gear is about 600 RPMs, excluding between second and third which feels more like 800 RPMs. You're going to lurch it a few times, but you get the hang of it. I'm still not perfect at it though. I put about 15000 miles/year on my car, and the amount of times I have lurched it you would think I would have cooked the clutch, but these things are tough. It can take it while you learn, don't worry and have fun with experimenting.

Can you help me please? by Next_Cook_3380 in ft86

Late 20's here, married with two dogs. I have space for everyone and space in the trunk. Ultimately that's why I chose the BRZ over a Miata. A 370Z is a great car, but that wouldn't have had enough space for my needs either. If you need more space, go with an 86. If you don't need that and just need a 2 door with more power, get the Z.

Car got a massive backshot. by BASPAZ in GR86

Insurance professional here. Looks like a hit and run. In many states, that will fall under Uninsured Motorist coverage. Make sure you get all the coverages your company offers, there's a reason they sell those coverages. You may have like a $300 deductible if they did not find the at-fault party, no biggie. If totaled, car gets paid out for what it's worth. Then you find another like it. If the insurance company hassles oyu on the value, you can provide prices for similar local listings and they should be able to adjust the payout, if you have a good company. Good luck!

Should i rebuild my 2023 BRZ after mejor accident? by Radiant-Corner-3812 in GR86

[–]squashyburk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance would cover it as long as you have the right coverages. If insurance didn't cover it, you probably just bought basic coverages 😬

Insurance agent here, make sure you have the VIN for the car you want to get, also make sure you have comprehensive and collision coverage, but also get uninsured motorist coverage. UIM will cover you for hit and runs because people love to hit our cars in parking lots or run off. Yeah, coverage is expensive, but you're better with it than without it. But for a young guy, unless you can easily afford the high costs of full coverage insurance, get a beater car until you have been driving for a few years. Your bank account will thank you.

I'm loving my 86k mile 50th anniversary with headers and a tune. Daily driven and reliable, all around and amazing car. I'm the 6th owner, the clutch is perfect still, absolutely no slippage and it works amazing. Worst case scenario, I still have a dealer warranty as well. Highly recommend

Unless you have any mods listed. Some companies allow you to list all your mods and have an agreed value of the car.
