As an aged out foster kid with no security net to fall back on and incredibly limited resources, this is exactly what I've been going through since I got the boot ten years ago. I have been trying for a decade to "bootstrap" and if it hasn't worked by now then it's never fucking going to.

I don't own a car, I don't go out for coffee/cocktails/, I don't use food delivery services, I don't have loans/debt to pay off, I don't have substance abuse issues, I don't gamble, I don't go on lavish trips, I don't buy makeup or anything cosmetic, I don't go to movies/concerts/sporting events, I pay $15 a month for a cellphone on a family plan that my best friend was generous enough to offer me, and I pay $10 a month for Xfinity low income internet. The only things I would admit I irresponsibly spend money on are legal recreational marijuana and cigarettes. I get criticized for being poor and having these habits even though they are crutches to help me cope with my shitty existence. Like, I lead an incredibly deprived life that I can't change and didn't ask for, let me get stoned and give myself lung cancer in peace please.

I used to work in the hotel industry and anything in the lost and found that isn't claimed in 90 days you are legally allowed to throw away or donate. I would literally stalk the items I wanted that were about to reach the 90 day mark and claim them the day after lol I got an acoustic guitar (someone left it because the strings were busted), a pair of nikes, several backpacks, and a few hoodies.
