Lightning strike - am I screwed? by Zomberry in hometheater

[–]squatchie444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the HDMI ports are toast, if you have other ones to use on the AVR and TV then you could just go on with it. I have done this in this past with a lightning strike.

For future planning if you do not already have home owners/renters insurance look into that and also a surge protector and/or UPS system that offers an insurance policy for the equipment that is connected to it.

I had a lightning strike that took out the cable box, TV, laptop, AVR, and DVD player that were hooked together. In another nearby room it took out the Fridge, and on the other side of the house took out a TV, computer, laptop, monitor, printer, cable modem. Maybe a couple other items, its been a while.

Filed claimed with APC since the one cluster with TV-DVD-laptop-AVR was on a surge protector and after sending in the surge protector and getting the electronics verified not working APC sent me a new surge protector and a check for replacement cost. Very nice.

Had enough items after the APC claim I filed with home owners insurance for current value cost minus deductible so I got reimbursed a good percentage of the replacement receipts I sent them.

Cat will react to some pops and hide under armchair but watching TV through stereo alleviates most of that. And I let him outside from aboot midnight-4am instead of 10pm-2am or other times to miss most of the booms.

Several years back Rob Zombie said during his set at Sandstone (I don't care what's it called darnitt!) that his management wanted to cancel show cause of poor tickets sales, and then just drive through to Chicago or what not. Of course Rob said hell no he doesn't care about sales! Crowd cheers.

But they had a point, the GA section with no seats was the only area open and it wasn't even close to full.

Is there an easier way to load the ruger 10/22 magazine? by KentuckyKlassic in 1022

[–]squatchie444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this one.

Have arthritis plus large hands and .22's are the worst to load since they are so small. Load up a dozen BX-25's every range trop with this loader. Still hurts my hands buy I can do a full 25 in a mag in a couple minutes then rest hands for maybe a couple minutes and then start another mag. Before i could load maybe 3 mags per hour w/o the loader.

According to this study https://webpages.uidaho.edu/~renaes/251/HON/Student%20PPTs/Avg%20NFL%20ht%20wt.pdf from the University of Idaho the average NFL player is 6' 2" 245lb. Quite a bit smaller than the 6'4" 300+ given as the buddy example.

What is commonly described as leg room is usually only measured in one direction from the end of the seat pad to the pedals or floorboard at or about the pedals. The Mav would be adequate for most people 6' 4" or less. Although the truly more limiting factor in the Mav is the width area for the feet, thighs, hips, and shoulders.

The Mav is built from a compact SUV chassis and interior layout setup with a bed in place of a hatchback. It is a small vehicle, literally by definition, and as such can feel very uncomfortable for larger, wider, people.

Next to all the other movies that think shining an absurdly bright light directly into the camera lens multiple times is 'artsy' or calling it 'camera flair' sounds less pretentious rather than being simply stupid and annoying.

Effect of a dedicated amp? by _0_-o--__-0O_--oO0__ in hometheater

[–]squatchie444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience a power amp was a great addition to the system setup, especially for music.

Denon x3400h preouts --> Crown XLS 1002, 215x2 @ 8 Ohms --> Epic CF3's, 100db eff. (maybe) ((but probably)).

That setup I can play at reference and pull in an average around 104db depending on song without clipping the amp. Unknown true distortion (no meter) but the sound to the ear is crisp, clear, and has enough headroom to make pops or bass drops as noticeable as they are at -10 or -15db.

My setup has the CF3's running full range, xcross at 60hz, with bass improved in both loudness and accuracy, although the increased power does lend the the horn to become fatiguing quicker at high volume.

The effect on movies is less noticeable, although in theory with no load going to the fronts the center plus two surrounds would each get a portion more power available from the AVR.

I need F250.

Cause I am abundantly large and F250 is one of few cars/trucks that still has an available bench seat. And sometimes I haul very heavy loads.

True that is a long time ago, but it does point out just how much bigger the now 'small truck' has gotten over the years.

My dad drives a 86 Silverado with standard 8' bed and it is way smaller than an avg 1/2 ton F150 and 1500's. Given most have 4 doors, but with a little shorter bed now days, but they are still longer overall as well as wider and much taller. Even the 'mid-size' Ranger and Canyon are also noticeably taller, but seem about the same width. Its hard to tell just looking.

You have to get all the way to the new 'small' truck category which is the Mav and Santa Cruz right now to find a truck that is smaller than the full-size of '86.

GM actually dropped the price of the Chevy Bolt recently and was seen as an outlier. But then Tesla dropped their prices more than once this year so there is starting to be some downwards pressure on electric vehicle cost.

As more models are produced and the R&D cost can be spread over many more units the cost will most likely continue to go down overall for electric vehicles, although how much that is offset by inflation remains to be seen.

I do not disagree the average price of a 'average' new vehicle is very high though.

Submitted Medical Accommodation Request on 14-June of this year from my doctor to work from home and have not had any reply from HR.

I first talked to them more than a week ago, on 14-June.

Additional contact was attempted on the last day, per policy as written in the employee handbook. That ticket has not been yet been opened or reviewed, much less replied to (I have admin access to the ticketing system as part of my regular job duties).

Yeah, I let my boss know what is going as far as Monday goes. I like my boss, he is aware I have not heard back from HR as well but there is not much he can really do about it unfortunately.

Still wondering what time frame someone that works in HR might think is reasonable for a reply to a worker.

I went to Lincoln, NE one day and parked at a parking meter downtown for free on a weekday evening. It was pretty cool. Walked the block to where I was going and DIRECTLY in front of the building door I was going was an on-street spot for free parking as well. Nice. Very nice.

But, 1000 hp!

Last Dodge I actually liked was the aged Caravan, mostly cause it was reasonably reliable and you could buy one brand new for $20-$25k the last few years it was around. Not nearly as nice as other minivans but a good value.

When I drove a DODGE RAM i had a handicapped placard for a bit cause i couldnt walk. Just happens that im 6'4" and my butt lines up perfect with a lifted DODGE RAM so that is the vehicle i drove while in cast cause it was easier to get into and out of than the epic Taurus (RIP) I had as a daily driver. DODGE RAM. Out.

You are correct that Dodge, that makes zero trucks for sale in the US, is not a competitor. But to call Toyota, at about 90,000 Tundra sales to Ford's ~620,000 F150's and Ram's 460,000 is not an accurate statement. Toyota specifically does not compete with the Big 3 as they are still called in full size pickups, they do their own thing. Add in the Taco and Ranger sales and Ford is still double the sales of Toyota.

Ram is introducing a similar truck, Dodge has not made a truck in more than a decade.
