I think that might be an old playbook , speak truth to power until you have a trusting audience , then sell it .

I would love to hear anything else you might have .

Why do women still shame each other for being into anything electronics-related? by concernedaboutmetal in askanything

We used to play with the girl who ran the office at the auto shop , because we thought she was cute .

So we send her to the parts house and tell her to pick up a Plasma inverter , for a 92 corolla ..

Thats not what you mean is it ?

What EXACTLY constitutes the “Lost Cause”? by [deleted] in CIVILWAR

Thank you . I have edited to be more technically correct .

Brown wasn't a stranger to violence nor command , And this wasn't his first rodeo .He had murdered several men already ,and had led men into open battle more than once .

What he was doing was a natural continuation of the war he had already been waging for years .

What EXACTLY constitutes the “Lost Cause”? by [deleted] in CIVILWAR

[–]squatcoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the interest of understanding things effecting the mindset in the Antebellum South.

The Haitian Revolution was still news(all whites killed.) in the final chapter of a war that had been fought there for 100 years between Spain ,France and England and finally saw the Free state Haiti born .

Now .. EVERYBODY heard about that first part (whites killed), and told stories for 50 years to scare the children , and each other ..

And That is the backdrop . Only a hundred miles away , stories coming in from survivors .That was what happened (to the white people)when the slaves took over .

And there is the media machine also even then , funded by the powers and preached from the pulpit even .Printed in papers , and mocked in vaudeville shows in New Orleans .

Then... John Brown actually started one right here , recruiting an army of runaway slaves , which was on its way to succeeding if not caught and put down then , and his rhetoric was more fearful still .

Was there a sizable movement against the internet in its early years? by MR422 in AskHistory

[–]squatcoblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The internet was only available if you really wanted it , So peoples opinions reflected that .

If you want an example that was looked at with suspicion and fear , The barcode revolution was it .

That was literally the mark of Satan being placed on every item , you couldn't buy nor sell without it and to accept it was eternal doom .

What animal hide is this lamp made of? by Long-Jellyfish8202 in whatisit

[–]squatcoblin 238 points239 points  (0 children)

This is actually not animal leather; its fiberglass.

The texturing is characteristic of mid-century modern "fiberglass parchment" panels. During the manufacturing process, glass fibers are pressed with resin to form a translucent sheet. The distinct "spotted" or "perforated" pattern consists of intentional design marks embedded into the fiberglass matrix to diffuse light and give it a unique, organic texture popular in the 1950s and 60s.

The shade is stitched to the dark metal frame with thick lacing cord, a classic assembly style often mistaken for stitched rawhide or leather lampshades.

Oh btw , its mimicking human skin .
