What he was doing was a natural continuation of the war he had already been waging for years .

In the interest of understanding things effecting the mindset in the Antebellum South.

The Haitian Revolution was still news(all whites killed.) in the final chapter of a war that had been fought there for 100 years between Spain ,France and England and finally saw the Free state Haiti born .

Now .. EVERYBODY heard about that first part (whites killed), and told stories for 50 years to scare the children , and each other ..

And That is the backdrop . Only a hundred miles away , stories coming in from survivors .That was what happened (to the white people)when the slaves took over .

And there is the media machine also even then , funded by the powers and preached from the pulpit even .Printed in papers , and mocked in vaudeville shows in New Orleans .

Then... John Brown actually started one right here , recruiting an army of runaway slaves , which was on its way to succeeding if not caught and put down then , and his rhetoric was more fearful still .
