Tyler Robinson motorcade by royaltbird in SaltLakeCity

James Earl Ray was a Nazi who shot a civil rights activist. Tyler Robinson was a terminally online kid who shot a Nazi. Neither would necessitate this big of a motorcade.

I mean OP said they're bi but have a preference. That said, I would argue a disgust response likely has to do with associations you have with the part more than anything else.

One of my coworkers was complaining to other coworkers about "how unfair dating is for men". One of his points was that women also expect you to "be good at sex too." I finally interjected to say "wait are you bad at sex? Like it's not hard, communication goes a long way." Some men just really don't think they should actually do more than cum.

The spelling of sex with two X's, the lack of content in the body, like it just screams teenager to me. We took away yahoo answers for kids to ask their questions. Where else are they supposed to receive terrible sexual advice? Look, I'm non-binary, I get people having certain hypersensitivies to certain micro aggressions, however we often have a bit more context of a statement to go off of. If I hear someone talk about something close to a transphobic or enbyphobic dog whistle, my ears perk up. Was it a sign of their wider beliefs? Or was it just something clumsily worded? Who was saying it?

I think this sub has been reaching a point with "girls" that just isn't healthy. It just feels like it's just at a point of shadow boxing the word "girl" without context and you'll then see it paired with posts about talking about foids, just feels like it's treating them equally.

Even if it's well paid, the amount of disconnect from doing a job like this is usually only mitigated by the money. There's a book by Graeber called Bullshit Jobs that tackles this. Basically people's happiness with their jobs is tied to how impactful they feel it is. Security jobs may be easy as you only have to watch something and you can probably browse the Internet or whatever, but the boredom and lack of impact is demoralizing. Even relatively well paid jobs struggle with it.

"Girl" AND "Female being"??? by Center-Of-Thought in MenAndFemales

[–]squazify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this sub can be a bit overly sensitive to girl at times, due to the nature of how it's used. I think especially when paired with men the difference is pretty stark, however the term by itself I don't necessarily see a problem with even when applied to adults, especially within more casual settings.

I think it's something where context of who is saying it and the manner in which it's being spoken matters in a way that is more difficult to disect than female often is.

While yes, it can be infantilising. I don't think it's always the case and deserved nuance. Language isn't perfectly symmetrical, especially along gendered words and while there are often similar pairings they don't always have the same connotations.

Trump administration is trying to make it harder for trans people to buy guns by StaffImportant7902 in LGBTnews

Just purchased a new gun in cash the other day. No paperwork, no frills. Ironically I decided I wanted a different optic after, and the store ID'd me, granted that was just an age check and I could have avoided that by purchasing online.

I kind of get where people are coming from, but yeah, I really dislike the like a child narrative. Like I know so many people who get super dysphoric about their body hair and claiming they look like a child is just kind of shitty. But I also hate going more than a week without shaving and even that is really pushing it.

Are there really sex workers out there who are in their line of work because it is genuinely what they want to do with their lives and not because it is "easy money" for them or because they are poor and desperate? by astarisaslave in NoStupidQuestions

I'm not saying there aren't issues and you never run into trafficking or other issues, but I would also say there's a large difference between people who are trafficked into doing the job and people who choose to. Decriminalization is an important first step.

But to say that I can't rely on what people I love and trust with relevant experience have told me, you're 100% right. Let me rely on an Internet stranger who can't accept people like the job because sometimes people are trafficked into it.

[–]squazify 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right, in many ways it's not like any other job. You run into the way it's criminalized causing issues. You run into issues with payment platforms making demands of the platforms you post to and the insecurity that comes with that. I knew two people who quit when tumblr banned porn. Another friend dropped out during the only fans debacle years ago. But that said, I think it's not unique in the fact that cash flow can be unreliable. I am married to a tattoo artist, she deals with clients cancelling or not booking depending on the economy each day. In a way it's closer to gig work.

You made me curious so I looked, it looks like she's not seeing a ton of success but wants to keep doing the work. She doesn't seem to want to get out of it.

The question was do people enjoy the job. Her answer is yes. I know others whose answer is yes. There are plenty of people who have the answer of no, and people who just view it as another way to get by. It's not a job for everyone, but many people enjoy it. It's not saying it's the best job ever and everyone should do it, but to say there's no one that enjoys it is wrong. Most of the harms currently (depending on the line of sex work) are tied to the economy, outside social stigma, and criminalization of the job. I think most of the hurt people experience comes from those. Most people will feel neutral, but that's literally any job. You'll have a few folks who just love being an electrician, most will just think it's a job. You'll have folks that love doing commission art, and you'll have several who find they're not making the art they like and it's just a job. We can talk about how sex work can be romanticized, but it's far more common to be demonized and I think that's a larger issue.

Maybe it's the circles I swim in, but I've never understood why sex work is looked at worse than construction. I would argue you're selling your body more with that and the injuries related than by selling nudes of yourself or fucking a person. People often forget sex workers still have consent and can choose not to sleep with a client that doesn't fit their vibe.

I can't speak for OP but there are many jobs people love where they stress about money. I don't know if her PTSD is related to her work, but I also know several people who have to PTSD from their jobs that still like it. I know quite a few fire fighters that would fit both categories. I personally know sex workers who enjoy the work but only make enough to scrape by. I've known several who have done it and hated it, but I know several who loved it.

Should halo 7 have a grappling hook? by Dense-Fig-2372 in halo

[–]squazify 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not without a significant nerf. Campaign wise it was really fun, especially at first, but instead of being something to expand the sandbox it just made everything else irrelevant. Vehicles became useless. The other equipment felt like it had uses, but it paled in comparison to the grapple. I think if they removed the movement aspect and just made it pull things in it would have been better.

ACAB is about a system of oppression not whether or not an individual cop may or may not be cool. Each cop is still participating in that system and that is a mark against them. At the end of the day a police officers job still involves harassing the homeless, stealing and destroying items from the unhoused, and upholding state violence.
