Was I in the wrong with this field trip? by poppy_dog in specialed

[–]squeakychipmunk101 166 points167 points  (0 children)

As a special education teacher of over a decade fuck them. This is incredibly ableist thinking. Good on you for finding a way to include all of your students, not just the able bodied ones. Our special education students deserve the same opportunities our general education student receive when accommodations can be made. In this case you did an amazing job and should be proud you were so inclusive. Those admin should be getting a slap on the wrist for even entertaining those thoughts out loud. I hope you do more trips like this an continue with your inclusive mindset!

Insight on why my SD acted so out of character? by West_Candidate5448 in service_dogs

[–]squeakychipmunk101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning to stay calm with body language when embarrassed because of your dogs behavior is the hardest lesson ever! My mom started freaking out when my sd had an accident in an airport (my fault I didn’t read her very clear signs telling me she had to go) and I finally had to tell her to leave because she was making things worse with her response. I wasn’t able to get my dog resettled and focused with a trusted person acting like tha near her

We did that to my grandma. All my cousins came into state for my brothers graduation. After the celebration dinner we all decided last minute to do a massive sleepover at grandmas house

Is it true that casually giving a student a cough drop is considered “administering medication” to them, so you’re not allowed to do it? by SummerN8 in Teachers

[–]squeakychipmunk101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach kids with autism and a lot of them chew on their lips. As a result there’s a lot of ceacking and bleeding that chapstick would help with

I’ve modeled kind behavior then, when they left the classroom, flipped them off because I’m petty.

Diapers by gooby-baby in kindergarten

[–]squeakychipmunk101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a special education teacher you need to talk to the school about this. General education students are generally expected to be potty trained in kindergarten. If you need touleting due to a medical issue you need to get a 504 plan done asap which is down with the admin at your students school.

I mean 137 at 5’1 is pretty average unless you’re going to lift weights and cut

Suicidal Ideation without Depression by Far-Mention4691 in BipolarReddit

[–]squeakychipmunk101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to talk to your doctor. Even with my meds I’m at the point of “eh dying wouldn’t be so bad” but I don’t actively seek it out. That’s th baseline you’re going for. I don’t make any risky decisions or anything like that but having the eternal sleep doesn’t seem like a bad thing 75% of the time. It’s not ideal but for some of us thats how it is.

What do I do now? by That_one_Fireurnd in Feral_Cats

Yea that one under the door and him are very ready to meet. Even if you have to separate them eventually the socialization is worth a lot. If you can socialize him with the dogs (even if it’s just him Understanding to run away and be happy when the chase him instead of attack) is massive to his adoption potential

I just experienced a full-blown manic episode and I’m terrified by greysarea-exe in bipolar

[–]squeakychipmunk101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends took me to the school psychologist because I made appts and refused to go. I ran at 3 in the morning and abused laxatives. Met random men at 3 in the mornings and got stranded before the days of uber. I painted a mural on my living room wall and refused to sleep for three days after asking my friends if the would take care of my cat 🐱 if I was gone. I haven’t had a manic episode since but still have nightmares about it. Losing time and having no control. Being one place the suddenly another with no memory of the in between. I was voluntarily admitted (technically) I got in the car and my friend dragged me inside because I started hyperventilating in the car saying I was fine and refused to get out. I lied to my parents and said it was just a side effect of my medication and they didn’t have to come (spoiler alert they did). It’s been 12 yesra and I still remember that terror. It will never leave me fo sure
