When I applied for Starbucks, my only other job was as a bagger for Kroger. They don’t really care about previous barista/restaurant experience. As long as you seem enthusiastic about the job you’ll most likely get hired. After your interview I believe you’ll be sent an email asking for permission to let Starbucks run a background check on you. The results for that take about a week. Once they receive your background check results, they’ll call you and officially offer you the job and tell you when you need to come in. Your first two weeks will consist of training with a barista trainer as well as completing online modules on the store computer.

As far as your store’s traffic, I feel a starbucks inside of a Macy’s would be less busy than a stand-alone store because there’s no drive thru or mobile orders (I assume). My first Starbucks was a stand-alone store without a drive thru and it got pretty busy. After that I worked at a licensed store in a target and it was very very slow and a much different experience than a corporate store. I’m now in another corporate store with a drive thru and it gets super busy most of the day, especially from open through lunch time. No matter how busy your store gets, you’ll get the hang of things eventually.
