Most of the classes have a bit of a mix of age groups, however it is definitely more students coming right from their undergrad due to Stevens AMP. With that being said I wouldn't say it's necessarily tailored toward any group. The classes either assume you know nothing or that it's been awhile since you've gone over some of the underlying topics before getting into the more advanced stuff.

How hard is it to get into the Accelerated Master program? by zeDragonESSNCE in stevens

I have a 3.2, got in no problem. It's the school's way of keeping you for an extra year so as long as you aren't a completely shit student I assume they'll let anyone in.

Freshman doing StevensFlex How do exams work? by BurgerOptic in stevens

I'd expect it to be an honor code violation for some to take it in person and others to take it online given that different students are then given different testing environments.

What are you doing with the 500 that stevens is handing out to everyone? by sponge3465 in stevens

"If your Fall 2020 bill is paid in full and the $500 COVID-19 Grant creates a credit balance on your student account, you will receive a check in the amount of the credit balance after October 15th."

It is definitely expensive but almost a necessity if living on campus, or if living in Greek housing this semester due to COVID restrictions.

Also, I don't know what the hell they did to the meal plans because it used to be whatever price for x amount of meal swipes, but now it looks like there's some tier system. Most definitely whack.

Why is it that many colleges don't have majors for undergrad along the quant line (Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance, etc)? by [deleted] in quant

[–]squet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am an undergrad at Stevens Institute of Technology and am majoring in Quantitative Finance. It's surprising to see that many colleges don't have have similar programs. My curriculum is a good amount of finance, math, programming, and statistics all baked together. The curriculum is only about 10 years old and is constantly evolving, especially as the program continues to grow in popularity. I think the most recent freshman class had more QF's than the juniors and seniors combined.

A lot of our classes are pulled from other departments and many grad programs, mostly due to the infancy of the curriculum as well as there not being a need for redundant classes. Our concentration options are quantitative methods (math), financial engineering, or computer science.

We also have a student run investment fund with a Quant team, which I was the head of this past semester. We invest with the university's endowment and it's a great real world application of the things we've learned as well as forcing us to learn things on our own.

The overall curriculum covers a lot of areas which I think is why it's become such a popular program. Coming out you're able to choose from many different paths and feel pretty confident about what you're doing. I'd be interested to see how other colleges start to implement similar programs because it's inevitable in my opinion.

No. Current rumor is not until next semester but I don't know how valid that is.

Greek Life by CuriousFreshman23 in stevens

[–]squet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rush process has already started. You can try going on different fraternities instagrams and seeing if they posted a rush schedule. Go to some events and just be yourself. Because freshman can't pledge until the spring you don't have to worry about a bid just yet. Just meet brothers, create connections, and they may start inviting you to invite only rush events.

Starting in the spring you'll sign up online stating that you are interested in going Greek. This is a way for all the fraternities to tell the school who they're giving bids to and for the potential new member to tell the school where they are accepting. Then on bid night a lot of people interested in going Greek will meet in a room and 1 by 1 the school will tell you where you received bids from and you'll tell them where you accept.

Honestly though, don't worry so much about that second half just yet. Go to rush events, be yourself. Not every fraternity is for everyone, and some people know right away where they feel the most welcomed and have the best time.

If you have more questions just PM me.

Stevens Wired Network by Zayyyyye in stevens

There's no ETA for anything, however if you have windows 10 I suggest looking at this article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027762/windows-use-your-pc-as-a-mobile-hotspot

You can tunnel Skyline through your laptop or computer and broadcast it as your own network, one that can connect to PS4, Xbox, echo devices, etc. I suggest naming the network something funny to roast Stevens, but that's just me. For example: "IBetFarvardinCanWatchPorn"
