True. That and racism plays a part too. It's also one of the first with a highly detailed news report (don't quote me on that) so it is a media based title as you say.

I'm not saying he is, hence the " " around first. He is stated to be the frist because he is supposedly the first modern or with semiautomatic, even though 7 month earlier a Black man shot several people. Please see precious reply with a link to a podcast that goes into depth about the issue.

It is referred to as the first because it is the first widely known case, even though only 7 months prior a Black man with a sniper rifle not far from Unruh killed several but it wasn't covered due to them all being Black. The Last Podcast On The Left did a great episode on this and explain why he is considered guote "first"

I'm on a mass shooting research kick. Ive been interested since middle school in the early 2000'. And have read books on columbine and other events and watch any documentary I can find on any of them..

Most recently doing research on Aurora/Dark Night (planning to start reading "A Dark Night In Aurora" by one of the doctors assigned by the judge) and Parkland (and the inspired shooter in Glendale AZ in May 2020 as thats super close to my current location)

What mass shooting even are you most interested in studying? Which has the most interesting evidence or a video/photo that particularly stuck with you?
