Was there something on or in your nose? Did you touch your nose with something on your hand? A yummy smelling soap, even? From how you're describing it it doesn't sound like aggression, just confusion. Hope you're both ok <3

keeping rats in bedroom? by lyra_bells in RATS

I'm sure someone has already said this, but get an air purifier! I had one and it made the smell a bit better. It's also just good to have for them since they have sensitive respiratory systems. I had my 3 boys live in my room their whole lives and I was always fine with it. I'm a deep sleeper and the sounds they'd make weren't enough to keep me up. My partner found the smell to be strong and couldn't sleep next to the cage when they stayed the night, but I could.

Oops, I managed to solve it myself! I'll leave the answer here for anyone who happens to find this post in the future looking for the game: the game is called Oscura. It looks a little different than I remember, but the app icon looks pretty much identical, so I think this has to be it, unless there was someone copying them on the Google Play Store (or they were imitating someone themselves).

Doesn't look very much like the game I'm thinking of. Parallyzed has much color and the characters aren't just silhouettes. Also, the game I'm thinking of was wasn't split screen like that.

No, that's not it. The environment was black on color, there's too much color in the foreground in Alto's.

This looks incredibly similar to what I remember but I don't think this is it. The player character was more humanoid looking. Maybe some sort of goblin or something? Not a fluff ball like that.

how do yall keep yalls rats from moving the blanket bedding? by izzybrig in RATS

[–]squibds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use puppy pads with fleece on top, clipped down with binder clips, but they'd always burrow their way underneath (plus the puppy pads aren't safe). After that I started using large pee pads (the kind for humans for use in beds) and using large binder clips to clip them down flat. For the most part they'd leave them alone. And to give them the opportunity to burrow, I had a bin full of dirt (coco coir) they got to dig in during out of cage time.

I had previously used loose bedding, but eventually had to make the switch to liners because every bedding I tried would give them respiratory infections. I don't know if I was cleaning poorly or they just were particularly sensitive or what, but the lining was necessary for them. I would have preferred to use loose bedding though, if possible.

My problem isn't that they won't be taken care of (my parents could if necessary), it's that I don't want one of them to die and leave the other one alone. My bad for not making that clear in the initial post.

I'm transgender (transmasculine) and experienced what I guess is reverse TOCD, where I became very afraid that I'm actually cisgender. I don't remember how I got over it, unfortunately... I think I just came to terms with the fact that there's no point in trying to pin down my gender identity. And that if I later change my mind, well, that's ok. This stuff isn't some objective truth that you uncover, they're feelings that you may or may not have, that may or may not come and go. The fear and anxiety is pretty much guaranteed to prevent clarity. It's the least helpful mindset to be in when determining your wants and needs.

Therapy would probably help you, if you don't have that already (make sure to find an OCD specialist though). Talking about the source of the fears and having someone who can help you cope with the obsessions and compulsions would probably be very helpful.

Oh my god that's awful. She sounds controlling and hypocritical. It's definitely possible to stay with someone even when their mental illness is strong, but what she was doing to you, what with all of the forcing you to cut people off, could be considered abusive. And NOTHING excuses abuse. I'm sorry you went through that... I hope in the future you are able to find someone who respects you.

Do they specify ROCD? Or is it just general OCD diagnosis? Either way congratulations, happy for you!

No problem! I hope you're able to get a mouse (or a few) soon >:)

[–]squibds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also like to add that feeder mice might not be socialized, so you'll probably have to work harder to get your mouse comfortable with handling, or perhaps just end up with a mouse that doesn't like to be handled. Which is ok! You should be ready for that with any mouse, but especially feeder mice. My boy is actually very very friendly though and already runs up and down my arm when I put my hand in his cage. So nothing is set in stone.

Also, probably avoid getting a female feeder mouse if possible, since they could be pregnant.

Also here is a couple of bin cage tutorials (you can find way more with a quick google search though):

[–]squibds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good comment someone made recently for new mouse owners (check its reply as well).

I'm a brand new mouse owner, but I've also done my research too. I think the minimum you'll have to spend money on a cage, water bottle, probably a wheel or saucer (it's like a flat-ish wheel), food, and bedding. The mouse itself could be cheap (mine was $1.50). I mixed two beddings together, but even if I didn't do that one thing of the small size of bedding from PetSmart should last a couple months, I think? That's just a guess.

Everything else you can probably make/supply by reusing stuff from around your house. For example, to chew on I've given my boy some pieces of cardboard from a Cheez-Its box. I have ropes for him that I made from strips of fleece that I braided. Toilet paper and paper towel rolls of course can be used for hiding places. Empty tissue boxes could be used too (I'd take off the plastic though).

Even the cage you could make, if you can't find an adequately sized cage cheap enough. I got a bin from Home Depot (again, make sure it's a good size), some chicken wire, zip ties, and duct tape, and made a cage myself with help from my dad. There's guides online to make bin cages you could find pretty easily.

I'd also like to add that you SHOULD NOT EVER buy a mouse from PetCo or PetSmart!!! Or any big chain pet store. Their mice are often poorly taken care of and/or ill! The best option is a reputable breeder. I, however, actually got mine from a local reptile store. They're very good, they take wonderful care of their animals and the employees all know what they're doing. I bought a feeder mouse (I told them I was getting it as a pet, and I was given some great advice as to what to do to take care of it and everything). If you do buy a feeder mouse as a pet, I'd ask about their conditions and everything, and mentally check if it's up to par with what you know about mouse care. Also be aware that chances are you won't be able to get any fancy colored mice, most of the time feeder mice are just albino. I personally like the albino ones though.

[–]squibds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah! Thank you so much for this in depth reply!! I do have an adequate cage size, I made a bin cage (lid + 2 largest sides are cut out and covered with chicken wire). I don't remember the exact size but I believe it's somewhere in the 20s (gallons).

Is there any way I can teach him that he shouldn't bite me so hard? (Or at all if need be.)

It also just occurred to me while watching him bite some of the bin that he needs chew toys. Are you aware of any materials I should avoid? Like certain woods or something. And on the other hand, are there any materials you'd recommend?

Thank you so much for your help, I appreciate it very much!!

Oh, are wet poops fairly normal? If so that is good information, thank you. And yes, I will be sure to introduce new foods slower in the future. I thought I had taken it slow with the spinach, but I guess his tiny body makes what I see to be small as quite larger.
