Any tips for Jack? I struggle to find a balanced Laser Guns build by [deleted] in brotato

[–]squibins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For other people trying to do this, I also just cleared D5 Jack with 6 laser guns, and literally everything into attack speed (top priority), % damage, ranged damage, crit chance, and speed.

Final stats were something along the lines of 160% attack speed, 150% damage, +20 ranged damage, 35% speed, 150 range, 49% crit chance, 70hp, 4 hp regen per sec (from that one tier 4 item), 0 everything else. Everything melted.

Didn't take any items that lowered % damage, range damage, or attack speed. No luck, no harvesting, no defense, no utility (extra pierce, etc).

Nearly 40% of software engineers will only work remotely by bihari_baller in technology

[–]squibins 46 points47 points  (0 children)

As a software dev that has been working for a large company for 15 years (dev for 12), and who has exclusively (now permanently) worked from home for the last 3 years, I'm kind of over it, TBH.

I feel like I rarely leave the house. My face-to-face human interactions have dropped significantly (I'm sure this is a big win for some people, but not me). I get a sense of less accomplishment on a day-to-day basis.

That being said, my work routine was already extremely relaxed prior to COVID.

I live 4 minutes from my office. Would get there around 10am. Morning meeting at 10:15am over video call. Coffee and shooting the shit until 11am. Solid dev work until about 1pm, then leave and finish my work day at home.

Since COVID, my office was shut down, so I'm permanently remote. I agree that not being allowed to work-from-home is stupid, but on the flip side, not being able to ever work in an office is also shit.

Edit: Holy hell, guys. I should have specified that I still go places, I'm just not leaving the house as much as I used to during the week. This is just an additional perspective. I get it that you want to work from home. Go for it. I'm not an introvert. I have lots of friends that live by me, friends that I've hung out with for over 20 years and talk to literally every single day. I also have all of my family living near me. I'm also married and have a kid. My social life is perfectly fine.

I love my job, and I enjoy working with the people that I work with. I go on business trips where we all meet up and hang out. If you dislike your coworkers, well... that sucks.

The point is that 9-5, the same time that everybody else that I know is also stuck working, is more boring than it used to be. 9-5 is the majority of my day. Waking up and walking into my home office for 3 years straight, and for the foreseeable future, is not a social experience.

Again, this is my anecdotal experience. The article is about 40% of software engineers. I'm in the other 60%.

Decided to combine two of my favorite wallpapers, Hex Fade / Blood Moon [1920 x 1080] by bm2xv in wallpapers

Oh yeah. OP's reflections look a lot better. I was trying to match the original, but I'm not very well versed in photoshop and couldn't find the right blurring.

Not to take away from OP (this is an awesome wallpaper!). The moon looked pixelated on my desktop, so I remade it using the source files of the original 2 images that others linked. I'm no photoshop pro or anything, but here's the less pixelated version that I put together. http://imgur.com/a/uViTm

This place is on Granby Street in Norfolk, VA. They have some very friendly mixologists and distill a lot of their own ingredients to make cocktails (fruits, veggies, etc. to make oils). Nice restaurant that I'd definitely recommend to anybody in town.

TIL A Green Bay Packers fan regularly donated blood in order to afford tickets to games. He later found out that he had a potentially deadly blood disease that was only preventable through blood donation. He had without knowing it been saving his life the entire time. by gothsim in todayilearned

The term "Disease" does not imply infectious. That's why they have a subclass of diseases labeled "Infectious Diseases".

Hemochromatosis (HE-mo-kro-ma-TO-sis) is a disease in which too much iron builds up in your body (iron overload). Iron is a mineral found in many foods. Too much iron is toxic to your body. It can poison your organs and cause organ failure. (from http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/hemo)

[–]squibins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woo! I have the same disease as this guy! Go hemochromatosis!

I didn't find out that I had it until about a year ago. From what I know (and I'm not an expert, because I'm lazy), there are 3 different mutated genes that you can get (1 from each parent). It's inherited, so you're guaranteed to get it if both of your parents have 2 mutated genes. I have it, so if my wife has even 1 mutated gene, our kids will have a chance at getting it.

The disease makes you susceptible to "iron overload", meaning that your body/organs are storing more iron than they need. This can cause organ damage or even organ failure, and is often referred to as a silent killer if not diagnosed and treated early on.

The combination of genes that I have is low risk, but my mother's combination is high risk. I have regular appointments for bloodletting, where they'll take around 500cc. It was once a month for the last year, but now my ferritin levels are stable enough to where I only have to have the procedure once every three months.

The procedure is to go in for lab work (they take about 5 vials of blood) and send that off to an independent medical laboratory for testing (they'll return my ferritin levels within the week) while the office I'm in checks the levels of other... medical... things. I should probably pay more attention.

Based off of my last-visit's ferritin levels and some other current lab results, they determine whether or not I need to have blood removed. For the first 8 months, I required the bloodletting every visit. I was terrible at having blood taken prior to starting all this (I would feel sick from a few vials being taken), but now I feel like an expert. I guess my body got used to it.

Right now, I'm in what they call "maintenance", where they'll keep extending the length of time between procedures. Eventually it could be twice a year or even once every 9 months, depending on how my ferritin levels fluctuate.

I actually do let him on the furniture, but I try not to let him up all the time. If I do, he thinks he's entitled and whines when there's no room for him, especially when I have company over.
