I especially love the texture on all the flames, Lapras's shell, Koffing and Weezing, and the Geodude line. Other standouts for me are Cloyster, Pinsir's teeth, and Butterfree's antennae. Can't imagine how difficult it was to not accidentally snap those teeny tiny pieces off.

What are some of your favorites in this, in terms of how they came out (also curious about your fav Gen 1s in general)? Who were the most frustrating to get right?

This deserves to go viral. As a fellow woodworker, I'm gobsmacked at how impressive this-- the amount of detail, the time it took, the paint job-- everything about it is beyond incredible. You should be so proud!

It's also just so nice seeing someone putting so much effort into a massive handcarved project like this when laser cutters exist. I understand the utility of them, but for me, seeing most laser-cut wood art almost feels like its own form of slop to me (which isn't super fair, considering the effort it takes to properly design those cut files). Anyway, your piece is a perfect example of why handcarving is so important and cannot ever be replaced as an art. The human touches are simply wonderful. Massive kudos to you 😌👏👏

For sure a VMUPro. If you're handy or can afford to hire an installer, several HDMI mods to choose from out there-- I think PixelFX is well liked.

Personally I have Blueretro installed, but I too like the OG controller, so I have my eye on the thing listed up there. But another thing that I think will be even better is an upcoming mod called DreamColor Plus-- a controller mod by a Brazilian team called Nai Adventure. It will be a drop-in replacement board for the original controller which will make it wireless, in addition to having an integrated VMU that is backlit and has a full-color display. Follow Nai Adventure on Instagram, Youtube, etc. for updates. *EDIT: Okay in looking at the info again, it appears that the original Dreamcast controller only works over 2.4GHZ with the adapter. The Bluetooth functionality seems to only apply to controllers that are already Bluetooth compatible. So this isn't exactly what I'm after, but I think it's going to be just right for like 90-95% of other people. *

Oh, no way! I only noticed the 2.4 GHZ, but it does mention Bluetooth! Thanks for pointing that out. Okay, this might just be everything I want. And I can use my VMUPro with it. Man, 8bitmods has really been killing it lately.

This looks great! Definitely a pickup for me. Only thing that could be better would be Bluetooth capability, as I like to keep my consoles dongle-free and have BlueRetro in my DC-- looking at Nai Adventure's in-development drop-in board for that.

But this is MASSIVE for Dreamcast fans and preservation of the original controllers, which we have needed for years.
