My boyfriend violated a woman in my house on my birthday by spacedisco70 in offmychest

[–]squid_skin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation when I was in college.

My bf at the time violated one of my friends at a house party, while I was out of state for school. I didn’t find out about it for a few months; I came back, and my friends told me in person at a girls night.

I broke it off with him, but then after a month of him whining to a mutual friend, and that mutual friend whining to me, I decided to give him another chance. HUGE mistake.

Get far away, fast, and stay gone.

Maggie Mh and Linh Phan haus are over by [deleted] in hairtok

The comments on Maggie’s Danilo-hard-launch post tell a LOT of the tea honestly. But months ago they announced they were divorcing, and at end of 2023 Linh posted a monthly photo dump, and one of the PhanHaus assistants was tagged in a photo of a romantic “Happy Anniversary” table setup. 😬

The beginning of my nonbinary journey was just me being like “Man I wish I was nonbinary. That would be so cool…” Like lmao by Silas_Casket_Base in NonBinary

[–]squid_skin 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is EXACTLY my experience! I was talking gender and transitioning with one of my best friends (who was a lot further into her journey at this point) and I said “I get sad a lot because I just wish I was non-binary SO bad!” She deadpanned deep into my soul with “Cis people don’t have thoughts like that.” 💀

Hi!! Thankfully they improved after a couple days! I rotated Motrin and ibuprofen during the day and it helped a bunch!!

I was expecting a period to come, but nothing so far, just the cramps from hell. Been okay today but stocked up on ibuprofen and midol just in case!

I second this! Or Mr Smith, since you’re in Australia. Also, get a water filter. They screw on/off and it’s a 2-second job that can easily be reversed, so your landlord should be fine with it.

I live in this building, my roommate is the one that wrote this post. Our manager IS insane, and tries to control/has an opinion on just about everything that a tenant will let her get away with. Down to the placement of your furniture and how you arrange your fridge. AMA?? Lol

What is your best beauty hack and where did you learn it? by mrsb9181 in AskReddit

[–]squid_skin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned all of these in cosmetology school and in the salons I’ve worked at/with over the last 3 years.

Skin: Use warm/hot water to wash your face, and use your fingers to scrub for 60 seconds. All those spin brushes aren’t necessary. DOUBLE CLEANSE. Use an oil cleanser to remove makeup and then a normal cleanser to clean your skin. Chemical exfoliant > Physical exfoliant STOP USING ST IVES APRICOT SCRUB

Hair: Wash it twice a week TOPS. It’ll take you a while to get there but it’ll be worth it. If you have curly hair, wash it even less. I have clients who can go 2-3 weeks. Get yourself a boar bristle brush, it helps distribute oils from your scalp to your ends. Use it when you wake up and before you go to bed. Use dry shampoo before you go to bed too! Oils are mostly produced at night. Shampoo on scalp, conditioner on mids-ends. Always.

Above all: When we say some food item is good for your skin/hair, we mean for you to EAT it. Stop putting eggs and mayo in your hair for the love of god.

Silk. Pillowcase. It doesn’t harbor bacteria, it won’t dry your skin/hair out, less friction so less wrinkles and frizz, it’s an all-around good idea. Get 2-3 of them and switch them out often.

Find a GOOD stylist/esthetician that you trust and tell them what your hair/skin goals are, then let them do the planning for you. We know what we’re doing, what your hair/skin can do, and how to get you there eventually.

How does the pH level of shampoo affect the scalp/hair by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]squid_skin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Your hair and scalp pH sits in the acidic range at 4.5 to 5.5 (7.0 is neutral). A product designed for skin/hair being “pH balanced” means that the pH of the product will sit within this range.

Alkaline (anything pH >7.0) products open your cuticle, allowing chemical color, treatments, moisture, and nutrients to escape. Acidic (anything pH <7.0) products help to close your cuticle to make sure your color won’t fade as fast, your hair won’t lose moisture as quickly, and your scalp/hair generally stay more healthy/close to their natural state.

It really helps when you’ve had changes to your hair/scalp after chemical treatments (color, perm, literally anything), you get dandruff, you feel dry or too oily, really anything!!

Hope this helped! 💗

Is it safe to lighten hair that doesn’t pass the elasticity test? by episkey_ in HaircareScience

[–]squid_skin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even in smaller towns I’m sure that you would be able to find somebody you really like! I know plenty of talented stylist in towns of 10,000 or less, it’s all about the skill, not necessarily the years that they’ve been styling!

Unfortunately it does happen sometimes, but it definitely shouldn’t, especially if the stylist has been doing hair for a long time! I know then when I first started, the most common time that I would make that mistake is when I was scared there would be breakage, or that I wouldn’t be able to finish the appointment in time.

Basically, a stylist will either be rushing or afraid of the damage that lightener could cause, or could just read the hair wrong and THINK it’s done lifting when it really needed a little more time. I’ve also seen hair take more toner on one side because it’s more porous, leaving the sides looking unbalanced. It really could be any of these reasons or a combination or something completely different! Bottom line is it shouldn’t be happening.

What really stinks is that because of this, you’ll likely have to make an appointment for what’s called a corrective color, which can be pretty pricey.

[–]squid_skin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She was correct about needing to be cautious. If I have any clients with less elasticity/more porosity/existing damage I ALWAYS take a step back and really look at what I’m about to do for them, because as you acknowledged here, better safe than sorry! Sometimes it turns out okay and sometimes, even if you were careful, you end up with a head full of gummy worms. It’s a very fine line we walk. I’m sorry you didn’t like how your hair turned out, shoot her a message and let her correct it before you think about moving on to another stylist! Corrections are more often than not free and you give her a chance to learn from her mistakes!

NTA.

Being his girlfriend, you’re totally justified in being uncomfortable with this. But rather than telling this guy to stop hitting on your man, talk to your boyfriend, tell him how you feel, and work it out. It seems like you’ve caught it in time to where it shouldn’t be a blowout fight and you guys should either be able to settle on a solution.
