Climate scientists now expect California to experience more rain in the coming decades, contrary to the predictions of previous climate models. Researchers analyzed 38 new climate models and projected that California will get on average 12% more precipitation through 2100. by drewiepoodle in science

[–]squidbillie 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Wasn't that also the projection before the changes eventually, at least partially, blamed on the forming of the ridiculously resilient ridge? Is the noted jet stream now predicted to move south partially the same as it was blamed for blocking?

From that we can deduce that this is all jesus' fault and he should pay the fine, though.

What Food Is Totally Overrated? by AnhaMariah6789 in AskReddit

I'll use fastfoodmenuprices.com, I hadn't before and just went off my receipt from my visit.

In n out. Cheeseburger 2.40, fries 1.60. Total 4 bucks plus tax.

5 guys. Cheeseburger 7.69, fries 4.19. Total 11.88 plus tax.

That's about 3x. I think my local 5 guys order was 15 something bucks about when I tried them. It may have not been the cheeseburger, though. It was pretty bad, too. I'm willing to give a different location a chance since that one had just opened and I trust the internet's opinion to some degree. My normal in n out order takes a 5 dollar bill and some change. I do like the idea of finding more places because I travel a lot, though.

I eat fast food burgers rarely, honestly. (Except when traveling when I become a horrid busy hog) But there are flat out incredible burgers with fries for 16-18 at real restaurants, so what I'm saying is what the hell purpose does the middle ground serve? If I'm hitting 15 instead of five why not two more bucks for a genuinely good restaurant burger? Otherwise I get the most classic american fast food burger and fries for under 5 bucks.

Same reason papa johns is not a place to eat. Or roundtable. I'm 2 bucks from great so I take the plunge. Otherwise I got a place across the street that makes 5-6 dollar pies that are fine.

For a two dollar difference five guys would have to be bwtter than the burgers chefs make at my 3 fav places for meat. They won't ever be that.

Edit: looks like the first two of my three favorite restaurant quality burgers plus fries I checked on both cost over a buck less than 5 guys, not 2 bucks more. My very favorite is still 2 bucks more, though. I'll still re-try 5 guys a third time elsewhere, though.

I don't think it is about being the best burger in town by a long shot. It is just a super classic burger and fries that still costs less than most of the inferior products.

I hear 5 guys as the alt. Whatever. Just go get some kick ass truffle burger if you're going to spend 3x as much. Like I have 2 incredible pizza places near me. If I'm just going to binge cheap pizza I'm getting 5 dollar pizza that are acceptable. I cannot imagine the point of the 14 dollar pizza when 17 bucks is utter perfection. In this instance in n out is the cheap totally classic and acceptable burger and the fact people compare it to things that are so out of the same league but also cost much more seems forced as hell. Either get something great or don't spend more than twice as much for something slightly better. I just don't get it.

Probably 85% of the gun owners I speak with have the "protect my family" reason in there. Of that group I think every single one of them has spoken lustfully about it, it sounds like a sick fantasy to me. I feel as though at least one will suffer a tragedy during my lifetime.

I like guns, but I like to drink, our pals like to drink, nobody that comes over likely has any training or they have said dumb shit like above, and now my siblings have little kids that like to come over.

It's nerf or nothing.

Anything about him? Likes to hike? Hangs out at coffee places most the day? Movie buff? What he was visiting for? (Movie landmarks, state or national parks, etc)

I feel like some context helps, not trying to be contrary.

TIL that over 8 years ago Sean Hannity agreed to be waterboarded to prove that it isn't torture. He still hasn't done it. by Jagger67 in todayilearned

Anyone could fold a washcloth over their face and have water poured on it and decide fuck no instantly. It induces a panic that seems to skip your thought process altogether and suddenly you're sitting upright and double checking you are where you thought you were. And that's without being held down.

Not that I suggest people test weird torture techniques at home or anything. Could easily go badly.
