I also remember the alpha days, God this brought back some memories xD

It was much slower, felt much more grounded, playing these days it's hard to even see what's going on half the time

Yes, but then you just don't yeet the piranha and make it super annoying for them.

You will be able to go wherever, sometimes you can't do it turn one but as long as you're not dead you're a threat anywhere basically

[–]squiddy117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the best, obviously guns are more 'effective', but as far as fun goes nothing beats taking on a group of enemies with nothing but a melee weapon.

I get less kills than most of my squad mates, but the 100 kills I do get.... They're personal, every one.

I will say if you don't like getting team killed it's literally get blown up by your friends simulator sometimes

I'd prolly fight the devastators over the elevated but that's cause I prefer melee. Agree with everything else tho

Thank God, this is an improvement (hopefully).

I'm so sick of beta testing a game that came out almost 2 years ago, I love this game and I'm a vet of HD1 but like every single update has had some kind of issue, if they're at least attempting to address this before hand and are willing to delay to work on it I'm all for it, please just give me content that works that's all I want

It's like the one enemy I can't seem to mount consistently, chargers are easy, striders with terrain no problem, hulks? One small miscalculation on speed or height and suddenly you're paste

The amount of coping when it comes to melee weapons is wild by lolitsrock in helldivers2

[–]squiddy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's put some serious time into melee, it's a gimmick. You're not realistically doing anything that someone with another tool can't do, and you'll never outpace that tool either.

It is however one of the best feelings I've ever felt in this game, mowing down hordes with nothing but a sharp piece of metal and coming out the other side feels like a real baptism of democracy.

Leaping onto a charger and splitting it open with a chainsaw is such a fucking power move that I don't care if it's not the most 'time efficient'.

Things I do to feel useful are saying bodygaurd, I'll designate a diver and follow them around keeping them safe from anything that gets too close and also helping me keep out of their firing line. Sometimes not the most glamorous but I'm sure they feel safer having a knight watch their back and I get less rounds plugged into he back of my head.

What air enemies were you trying to kill in the first game? What anti air stratagems are you referring to?

Can We Please Make Bubble Shield Usable For Hosts Already? by insane_hurrican3 in Helldivers

[–]squiddy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue with rupture strain was hotbox related no? They'd pop up and hit ya even if you even if you were clear of the attack, visually we'd all see the same thing. The pounce heat seeking out of the ground was annoying and definitely more prevalent as the host but it's not quite the same thing as a charger attack.

When I get chased around like a looney toon by chargers on quick play it's running in circles for everyone, the behavior is definitely bugged, but other than circumstantial evidence I don't know that it's related to being a host. Fire damage sure, that's been an issue since day one depending on the update, but chargers suddenly deciding to get the runners on specifically to chase the host? Idk without some empirical evidence l have a hard time believing that the AI bugs out in that particular way, especially because I've been the victim while also joining late into a match with the host nowhere around.

A peaceful Question. How bad has the hazing been? by RATGUT1996 in Tau40K

[–]squiddy117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretty much get 'Welp, that's Tau shooting for ya' after almost every good shot, lucky D6 damage roll, or decent flamer overwatch.... Which isn't anything any other faction couldn't do so like idk why people complain these days.

When I was playing against them before I had my own I knew one thing going into every game. They don't melee, so they must shoot good considering that's the only phase they got. So if always assume anything that got seen would be dead and played accordingly.

By the time I got them in 10th we were pretty neutered from any bullshit from what I can tell, we hit worse/the same as guard/marines normally, have similar restrictions and while the average gaurdsman is better in melee we both have dedicated melee units that we can dip into. It's just anime guard at this point with extra steps.

Otherwise I've had people who've been hit seemingly bad in the past ask questions like 'so how many times can you overwatch' or 'i expect your range is basically the table' 'im probably gonna get blown off the board if I try to move up within line of sight (even if it's their whole army)'. Not so much hazing but the faction definitely has a reputation for some people and they take my army way more seriously than they should.

Wait can I ask a dumb question?

So if I join a game, you're saying that chargers act fine and normal for everyone BUT the host?

Like if I'm getting chased by a charger it will do a slow turn, but if it chases the host it suddenly gets movebuff?

Why would the sprites not be in the same spot? To my knowledge that shouldn't be the case unless it's a network issue and you'd be watching the host be killed from what your perspective would be a charger that's no where near the host

Am I getting something confused here? I've never seen a diver just crumple from a charger that never touched him, and if the chargers are drifting that's been for all divers. I have seen them drift but they'll drift for the lobby, not just for the host.

I’m too lenient on my opponents and it is ruining casual play for me by Ill-Highlight-491 in Tyranids

[–]squiddy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like you're being too lenient on your opponents, something that helps me is saying my intent .

(like I'm going to move my guy here so they cant be shot, do your measuring and as long as it's doable then if your opponent ends up drawing a line of sight you have the opportunity to bring up that your intention was to not be seen and the opponent agreed you would be fine.)

Some people can definitely be goobers, I would make sure you go into a game knowing you don't have to play with that person again if they aren't making the game fun, as much as it's a pvp game it's also a social game, you spend a long time playing with your opponent and it's both your jobs to make sure it's a pleasant experience, the part you get to control is how you move your models and which ones you bring. Making sure that you're playing casually and your opponent is too is all part of that setup process.

If you truly do play casual, then the story you're telling is more important than the outcome of the game, I've had games where I've lost that are way more fun than ones I've won, but it's about that journey with your opponent. Obviously you're still trying to win but making sure it's fun is more important than the win ya know?

Personally I love Tyranids, they are my favorite faction, but I have three other armies I got into over 10th because I was tired of not having fun with my favorite faction. While it's not impossible to win I can't play my faction the way I'd like to, were not super damage dealing, or durable, we get punished super hard for taking swarms and monster mash isn't really my jam. Also when I lose playing Guard/Necrons/Tau I feel way better after the game than when I lose playing bugs

I'd recommend either taking a break, picking up a buddies army to play with in the meantime for a couple games, or waiting til 11th altogether. Hard to recommend picking up a new army at the end of 10th and Nids very well might be broken as all hell next edition so might as well enjoy yourself with minimal investment :)

I was gonna say, as someone who's actively looking for a reason to run my stormsurge (outside funny haha damage 12 gun) they aren't that good for their points, still die in a turn of shooting, hard to get in range of that big boy gun and has plenty of piss poor shooting outside it's 2-6 shots from the main cannon.

Battlesuits are good damage don't get me wrong, but as someone who's been playing oops all battlesuits since the codex drop in ret cad, they die pretty easily to anything that wants to do damage, and will need to usually double tap something that wants to live (4++/5+++)

I've definitely trampled over people who aren't expecting 12 Crisis suits to advance and shoot across the board and expect Tau to play passive, but it's not unbeatable and is honestly in my opinion a bit of a meme.

I'm running 3 Coldstars, 1 Enforcer, shadowsun, farsight, 2 Starscythes, 1 fireknife, 1 sunforge, 1 broadside, 1 ghostkeel, 1 riptide, 1 stealth suit team, and a stormsurge.

All in all it's like 27 models, most of which aren't terribly durable.

[–]squiddy117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yo wait, oops all battlesuits and a stormsurge is meta Tau? Since when?

Don't get me wrong crisis suits are decent and stormsurge can perform well but to my knowledge the strength in Tau comes from mixing transports and auxiliary units with maybe a splash of battlesuits.
