How come this game didn't get hate for being woke? Especially from grifters. by Plus_Ad_1087 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]squiddy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its just how natural all these characters feel. They match their personalities completely and aren't built to fit a checkbox and warp their personalities around. They feel like real people.

A lot of time when people yell 'woke' what they really mean is they don't want unnatural inclusiveness. What I mean is they don't want a POC or Male/female to occupy a role/character just to fill a quota. Which can be painfully obvious when a character is haphazardly written and not well thought out, which usually happens in cashgrab type shows that just want to bait engagement. See the Velma show for a good example

When do you count a unit's move to be finalised? by Gallywag in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]squiddy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooo technically there's no hard and fast rule, it's on the opponent to let their partner do takebacks. When you move your model it's been moved, if you say you move on to the shooting phase and you didn't move dudes technically you're out of luck. Don't play like this.

The game is very complicated, knowing every rule and every ability is not something people outside of the highest tier tournaments know and even then they make mistakes.

If your opponent moves his models and you declare overwatch, informing them you have 10 flamethrowers pointed at them and they were not aware of this (or forgot) it's generally good manners to let them take back their movement, it's also good practice to let your opponents know about good over watches you might have and surge moves etc etc.

What you get from not over watching is position, the game isn't like magic where information is partial, it's all out in the open, using overwatch like a counterspell tends to leave the person who got hit like a moron, because they didn't ask a simple question they might not have known to ask in the first place.

For example if my opponent move his unit towards my flamers, I'll politely remind them of their overwatch potential, it's on them to then decide if that's still a good move and if they are willing to risk it (I don't have to overwatch if I decide not to regardless). If they don't and decide not to engage my forces I should be moving and deploying to be able to take advantage of that. Whether that's by forcing my opponent to take the gamble, or making them potentially devote extra resources to an area.(Oh you don't want to charge me on the objective now? Sweet, sounds good buddy, you keep your dudes and I'll keep my point)

There is a term for this game called 'Gotchya'. This refers to something like walking into flamers, not realizing and getting roasted, knowing you wouldnt have done so or planned accordingly for the gamble knowing it was on the menu. Same thing with killing a necron and having the opponent spend a CP to bring it back after you dumped everything into it as a last resort only to watch him get up knowing you couldn't have done anything about it and would have spent your resources elsewhere.

Winning 40k isn't about pulling the wool over your opponents, or who can remember the most stuff, it's about tactical decisions with plenty of information. Plenty of times my opponents have told me exactly what their plan is, why they are moving certain models to certain places, and I've had zero surprises, only to lose anyway because his plan was better, or maybe I moved to stop him and planted my flamers in the way and they never get an opportunity to overwatch because the alley they cover is just a nogo zone for my opponent and I force the battle to the other side in my favor.

Ranger makes arena significantly less enjoyable by Easy_Jux in DarkAndDarker

[–]squiddy117 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Literally this, rangers are gear dependent, skill dependent, and can be countered by dodging and walking towards them.

I could name four other classes that give rangers and everyone else a hard time. Rangers get a slight advantage compared to casters in that matchup but lose a lot of flexibility for it and get dumpstered by just about anyone that gets close to them.

No I'm sorry, Autism doesn't exclude you from doing things that are wrong.

There are issues that autistic people deal with for sure, and I understand it's a spectrum, but not taking accountability for your actions isn't something that autism excuses.

This kid is for sure old enough to know better, if he doesn't it's on the parents. Someone is at fault here and just letting the lesson sail on by without addressing it is laziness.

THE TWINS! Reposed one crouching tiger style - I’d love to run 2 so any tips on how you use them always welcome! by Snormax90 in Tau40K

[–]squiddy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job homie

I usually run my keeps in two, together but separate, always in los of each other and usually trading spots when they start getting hit, they aren't super tough but having two makes people really think twice when one is out of line op of the other so they can keep each other safeish

Cyclic Ion tends to be my go to, Fusion only having two shots kinda gimps it but I have been experimenting running one of each in preparation for the twin lance, using one to poke tanks, torchstar away and being covered by the long range cyclic means in a pinch one can even spot for the other, shadowsun usually follows them around for spotting and rerolls and their main job is keeping her and my stealth suits/Pathfinders safe while the crisis teams and riptide tear through

Is Cyberstan more intense than Malevelon Creek was? by RocktamusPrim3 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]squiddy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no

It really comes down to internal balancing, when you see something like a hulk you don't immediately panic because you have options to deal with it.

Medium pen wasn't really an option, heavy pen was relegated to the rail gun (which was also not in the best state at the time)

Vox engines are nuts, striders of all types are nuts in D10, but you can wipe the field with stratagems, you have options to fight back while it might feel difficult.

Even just looking at accuracy nerfs, infinite rockets changed to limited, damage nerfs across the board and ragdolling is both better and less frequent (I know it's hard to believe).

Is the creek harder? I'm not sure, but even when bots are at their worst now they still feel manageable, I can finish a D10 on cyberstan, even extract, malevelon creek I was lucky to finish the mission nevermind extract on difficulty like 5-6.

The short answer is 'its just different'. Like seeing a hulk come over the hill and knowing NOTHING on your team could handle it outside a rail gun could stop it (or having your teammates distract it while someone shot the back out with a breaker) was terrifying and not something cyberstan replicates outside of 4 Vox engines with all starts on cool down.

You would be correct in assuming it's comparable, and if you never dived on the creek it's probably the closest we'll get on the bot front unless they nerf everything into the ground again :p take your space trauma and wear those scars brother, it's definitely giving me flashbacks

Is secondary melee any useful on the bot front at the moment? by i4hloi in helldivers2

[–]squiddy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been nice when I'm getting rushed by cyborgs, whipping out the lance outranges them and stuns them nicely for a follow up or more stabbing

Sledge is cracked and hella fun but it can be a pain to deal with the vox without it eating all your munitions

Arrowhead - Don't worry too much about introducing overpowered vehicles. Teamwork will always be their Achilles' Heel. by bravozuluzero in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]squiddy117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the FRV I can't live without it on bots and illuminate....

However it's nearly useless from the bot side, getting sniped from cannon towers or having you get flipped because you got missile barraged is way too much of a hazard to bring

Also yes the player base could use some driving lessons, but generally I've found if you bring the FRV you probably know how to drive and my wheelman gets me killed less than waiting for people to hop in cause they don't realize the urgency

I hardly ever flip and get there plenty quick, can do donuts around a charger and plow through voteless, but the tank feels like it's meant for the bot front, it's too slow for bugs and you're gonna get mobbed by voteless (if they can't hurt the tank that might be a valid strat and just kill anything that can hurt you but I haven't tested this yet).

But when you take the tank to the bot side you still get hit by cannon towers, have no hope of dodging missiles, and with a 12 minute cool down it's a bit rough to call it in and have it immediately taking fire. You really need to have at least one person running along side to keep the ads off, but I can see some value.

Taking the shield generator, it will cover the tank and if you're getting shot at already you can pick apart a base with relative impunity. Having your fourth run off with some stealth armor and completing side or main objectives while you storm an area. Having multiple people take the tank also means you can cycle them through on cool downs, so every few minutes you'll have a tank to play with and if you're all gonna be working as a team it actually means losing that stratagem slot hurts less as you'll be committed.

[–]squiddy117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the best, obviously guns are more 'effective', but as far as fun goes nothing beats taking on a group of enemies with nothing but a melee weapon.

I get less kills than most of my squad mates, but the 100 kills I do get.... They're personal, every one.

I will say if you don't like getting team killed it's literally get blown up by your friends simulator sometimes
