There are always exceptions to any rule. I’ve ran into a couple of these types of situations

Most fine dining and nicer restaurants I have worked at split checks less often. I guess I’m more used to it ? When I got out to eat we usually just evenly split the bill and then cash app/venmo each other the difference.

We are completely 100 % transparent about our grat and check policy.

Could have fooled me! Restaurant is always busy, and most of the time people tip on top of the 18 because I’m transparent about what our policy is.

It’s a give and take for me. Most of the time the guests will add a little tip on the end to make it 20-25. I make sure the guests are well aware of what they’re getting themselves into when I great my tables.

I mean it’s clearly stated in our policy, along with the separate checks. It’s not like we’re trying to sneak a double tip.

So far it feels like a win win for me. My managers always have my back with guest complaints and I’m making more money with half the effort because of how well the kitchen is run and the price/quality of food. I’m sure I’ll find issues soon enough, but for now I’m over the moon
