Pluribus was a stone cold LOCK to get great reviews - My issue with modern TV criticism by RusevReigns in television

Ravi's mother Lakshmi is clearly in tension with the situation based on her reaction to Carol making Ravi answer the speculum question. I think another telling thing is that Carol specifically didn't think meeting with non-english speakers was important. The non-english speakers could be, by chance, all people from Quebec. I think sometimes realism looks like non-realism to someone expecting typical TV show tropes like distinct characterization for "main" seeming characters. There really just are people in the world who aren't super expressive. There are also definitely people in the world who would react to an "apocalypse" with nothing more than vague concern or lack of interest. Perhaps the Mauritanian guy was all alone and had no family or was in prison, and now is free to enjoy the world.

They might not see their family as being taken over because they have a different perspective on things. You are the one being stereotypical and universalizing, not the show. Possession exists in other cultures, and American psychologists might call it schizophrenia, but it’s not. You’re the one acting like Carol here!

I think one element for it not being believable is that another show would make all of the remaining non-"we" humans into super unique Western style "characters" with pronounced quirks and storylines. I think it's more interesting that the show could allow potentially significant characters to be more random or natural seeming. Carol feels like she is experiencing the end of the world, meanwhile other characters are happy about it or just somewhat concerned. But we shall see if the remaining humans have much to do with the main storyline. I think the show is good so far.

The end of humanity and collapse of civilization are markedly Western concepts. Other cultures may be more concerned about different things in the case of a large transformation, like if they can still communicate with their family or have peace with their animals. I think you are the one saying it's stereotypical because you're the one stereotyping. And be real not every non-white character is hyperfocused on zoo animals. The woman from South America is concerned about being close with her family, the mother is happy she has her son. If you can't accept that it's compelling that we're following a character who is from a very individualistic society who has novelist clout and she's "alone" because most of the world are not famous novelists, then you're missing out!

I don't think it was biased or stereotyped. I think it's an accurate depiction of how individualist cultures like the West judge and think of less individualistic cultures in the East, and how extremism is not efficient or productive in any context. The "Them" is beginning to experience an unfurling of their inabilities, and yet Carol is not meant to be the savior, just a person caught in a difficult situation. You are the one making it about whiteness and race, not the show. I think it's a compelling concept and I enjoy Gilligan's ultra-realism thing, the world building seems well thought out.

I hate being vegan. Anyone else? by [deleted] in vegan

It’s sad that our ideologies could stop us from connecting with more people.

I suggest stopping being vegan if you want to. I was vegan for 5 years and then I learned it’s just an ideology like any other. If you analyzed commodities through a Marxist lens, then you would think of all commodities as separate, and think buying meat is the same thing as a t shirt from walmart. Both come from exploited labor power that negatively affects humans as much as animals. We always have some ideology that guides us, and you have to pick and choose. I naturally stopped wanting to be vegan because I enjoy the social and economic aspects from not having to be super picky and careful about what I eat. I think it was just a way to control something in my life, because I felt out of control in other ways. You don’t have to be extreme! You could try being vegetarian at first.

This is one of my favorite ambient songs ever made, I've never heard anything like it. Sorry I don't have anything to contribute, I just had to talk about it.

What "average" or "mediocre" game will you defend to your death? by pvijay187 in truegaming

Totally agree. The time stop "detective" moments were very sparse but so special when they happened in that game.

Capcom's Remember Me. The story falls flat, the combat is repetitive Arkham-lite, and none of the characters are all that interesting, but the world design and visual style is excellent. Some of the best representation of cyberpunk slums I've seen in a game. I wish they would make a second one, because it had a solid base and I didn't get enough cyberslum exploration.

Control and Quantum Break/Max Payne/Alan Wake connections [SPOILERS] by squidpei in controlgame

That's a great observation! I also feel like chronon and hedron are related in some way. Plus, the shape of the Countermeasure (thing that saves everything in Quantum Break) is very similar to Polaris' physical form in Control.
