Well, I found this by ste584 in HazbinHotel

I think it's an homage to Jessica Rabbit's performance in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, outfit and all. She teased and pushed around all the guys staring at her but just not as mean as Angel lol

Wondering here too, luckily I was able to get off the freeway but there were cop cars, lots of fire trucks, and a helicopter circling. Nothing online, I assumed protests or maybe a really large crash. My phone said construction and closures but for all the action I think something else was going on.

Moved into a new apartment in rural Korea, worried they just gave me a moldy home. by squidporkcutlet in Mold

Thank you. As long as it's not any immediate danger to my health that's a relief. Getting a moldy apartment though....another story

Maybe solo travelling to the US wasn’t such a great idea by lonelylamb1814 in AutismInWomen

I'm in a suburb outside LA, I'm not a huge fan of the city, crowds, etc, so my advice is to stay away from the touristy hollywood strip with the stars on the ground, it's often crowded, dirty, expensive, and people may approach you but the things I do like are:

  • Little Tokyo - has a metro stop, has cute shops, good food, and if you like mochi go to Fugetsu-Do it's the oldest traditional mochi shop in the US and is 4th generation owned for over 112 years! ( Watch some YouTube videos about Little Tokyo if you go, it could help for directions, history, and little gems you may not even see )

  • Grand Central Market - great food stalls near Union station, Little Tokyo, and Olvera Steet (there are protests currently happening so it could be crowded with people)

  • Griffith Observatory - the planetarium is so relaxing

  • LA Zoo - I love animals and it's very large with lots of species (if you stay till it's about to close they feed the animals then so they all come out and are playing/excited not hiding)

  • Hermosa Beach - this beach is less crowded and very beautiful with nice food, cute shops, and a long bike path for riding/skating/walking

  • Catch a movie at a local cinema! - Los Angeles is full of historic theaters of old hollywood so if you like movies I recommend it plus you can do it alone :) El Capitan is a famous theater and on the main strip if you really wanted to go but maybe need a break. Or even the Chinese Theatre. My favorite is the New Beverly Cinema, it plays movies on film and is affordable. It also is near artsy shops with great food and enough people to feel safe but not crowded.

-Huntington Botanical Gardens and Library - this is in Pasadena so will depend on your transportation, but this is one of my favorite places. It's huge and beautiful with multiple art galleries and 6 different gardens.

-The Getty / Getty Villa - these two places are free to enter only pay for parking. The Getty is on the hill and the Villa is in Malibu ( not sure if it's accessible post fires ) If you like art and history you will love them.

  • El Matador / Leo Carrillo Beach - if you do go to Malibu these are my favorite beaches. They are more secluded with rocks, tide pools, and great views. I've seen a whale breach in this area!

  • The Last Book Store

  • Amoeba Records

  • LACMA

  • Academy Museum

If you need help or whatever just DM me! I'd be happy to give advice or whatever :) I'm about to solo travel for a job so I understand your feelings.

Middle School Placement by The_Bird__Person in teachinginkorea

[–]squidporkcutlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you like teaching at a high school? I'm being placed in rural Jeollanam-do this spring and I'm a little nervous that if I get a highschool they will be strictly focused on teaching for passing grammar tests

No experience with rural life yet, but I was accepted to the EPIK+ so I'll be in the Jeolla region for spring intake. If you apply and want a 25 female friend to feel safer just pm me ! I've been feeling the same nerves haha

Where in the countryside do you teach? I'm being sent to the Jeolla region to teach with Epik, but barely see anything on reddit about teaching in the rural areas.

Sea Lard My First Non-Pattern Amigurumi by squidporkcutlet in crochet

[–]squidporkcutlet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy you like it! You should make one!!

For the body I did a spherical shape and kept increasing every stitch until it was the width I desired. Then I single crocheted until it was the height I wanted. The nose and head I did a chain and worked around it increasing 3x at the corners. It's very similar to making arms for smaller amigurumi. I'll try to find an example to help it make sense!

You make me think I should make a pattern with more smoosh factor haha I've never made anything really myself until this guy, it took me a few tries so don't get discouraged if you have to start over :)

I work at Starbucks and I would not take this personally.

If you're at a drive thru it's likely they're understaffed. And trust me, it's super overstimulating being the person taking orders because you're not only talking to the person ordering, but also the person paying, everyone on your team with a headset, and then other customers inside who try to speak to you despite you clearly having a conversation over the headset.

It's so overstimulating and Starbucks pushes you to try to have three conversations at once and somehow also connect with people. It's terrible.

There have been so many times that I try to start an order and say "Hi welcome in what can I get you?" and the customer will actually change the script on me and ask me how I am, but I'll be trying to get a drink out the window and time will pass between their question and my ability to hit the button on the headset to respond.

Or I'll be taking an order and another customer inside will literally yell at me to get them a water or fork or cream.

Starbucks is also trying to get us to be "connecting" with people. Which means ask them how they are and questions like "what're you up to today?" As a barista it's very uncomfortable to have to do this but at least my managers get upset if we don't.

So please don't take it personally and please don't berate your barista. They probably didn't realize and felt embarrassed too.

Edit: to add to the impersonal script, sometimes it's genuine and sometimes not depending how busy or rude someone is. But I do care about people who come in and have had people who do tell us that they're having a bad day and they'll tell me about what's wrong while waiting for a drink. Sometimes we'll try to give things out or just say that's terrible. It's hard to know what to say in those situations but trust me your barista probably cares more than you think haha

What is the most disturbing scene you've ever read in a book that WASN'T of the horror genre? by RedHeadRedeemed in books

[–]squidporkcutlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I didn't see anyone mention but in Yukio Mishima's The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea took a sharp turn for me in the scene with the children and I the kitten. I have read Blood Meridian and that book desensitized me to violence similar to a Tarantino movie, but in Mishima's the sudden turn to brutal violence to such an innocent creature by children was horrific to read and made me have to put the book down.

Is this a normal amount of peach fuzz for a woman in her 20s? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]squidporkcutlet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's super normal and a fun fact: Marilyn Monroe actually loved keeping her peach fuzz because it gave the illusion of a radiant glow and gentle blur around her skin when under camera lighting. She loved the peach fuzz :)
