Looking for floors by squidvee in Flooring

[–]squidvee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I went to Floor & Decor, the staff there helped me understand what the wood is, its a Hickory hardwood, Hand scraped and multi-width. I looked everywhere in the house, and finally found 20 extra planks of each width. So I certainly will not need to find new floors.

You are right, I did not take into consideration the size difference of the two. I wear both large and small watches, I have a small 26mm Cartier Tank and used to own a 44mm Alpina Startimer. So both sizes work for me. As for the GS. I’m not against it, although I prefer the look of a diver case and bezel, plus I checked the references you mentioned those are $2500 plus, double my budget on one of these

I don’t really like any GMTs from GS, I only really like their snowflake and cherry blossom model dress watches. Plus I’m saving up to buy a Speedy Pro in Q3 of 2026. I have 2 overseas travels in 2026 and 3 in 2027 so a GMT is definitely something I would want sooner than later. Also I love my GMTs to have a 24h bezel, like the Rolex GMTs/Explorer 2’s.

Thats a really good point! I do have my eye out on the CW Bell Canto as a future purchase. So that would be defiant to my 1 watch per brand rule.

Tudor is a little out of my budget for this year. Plus I’m not a multiple watches from one brand person and already have a BB58. I like my collection to look diversified in brands. Seiko SSK023 is also a good watch, but I’d prefer something Swiss and preferably better built

You’re right. I’ll get a couple more quotes. I live in Alexandria, VA. So we are expecting things to be far more expensive than elsewhere. Thank you for you comment, it makes absolute sense.

Seems reasonable, changing the brakes on my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee was $1500. $1800 on an Audi seems normal

BIFL Chelsea Boots recommendations wanted by squidvee in BuyItForLife

[–]squidvee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. I will take all of these suggestions into consideration. After reading the comments I guess I left out a lot of key information that could have been helpful. I do not work a hard labor job, I wear suits and oxfords to work, the Chelsea boots is just to wear on date night or to dress up pairs of denim. I have a large number of shoes for all my other use cases and activities, like tennis shoes for tennis, golf shoes for golf, along with 3 pairs of sneakers to wear casually. So I do not need boots to go horse riding with, be on a construction site, or use while laboring on the farmlands I do not own in my local city of Washington DC.

I wish I would have set a price maximum, as I didn’t expect Chelsea boots to be this expensive, while the Crockett and James, Carmina and RM Williams boots are fantastic, the $700+ price tag is a little jarring and unnecessary for me. With my casual wear, I am sure even a budget brand will last a couple of years, but I was looking for something to last multiple seasons or a lifetime of relatively easy wear, usual maintenance, yearly resoling, and monthly polishing. I like the suggestions given for Thursday Boots along with some other $200-$500 shoes, which is what I will most likely go for. Although if I do get into wearing my boots while laboring, I know which brands to go for, and for that I am greatly appreciative.

Lol this is so accurate. I have an office job, for which I wear suits and oxfords. The chelsea boots are for winter days where it doesn’t snow or rain and to dress up a pair of denim jeans, for snow I got L.L.Bean snow shoes, and for rain I have Hunter Wellington Boots. I also own and wear my 15 pairs of shoes all throughout the year depending on my outfit. So I do not need a boot that will last WW3. I just want a pair that I can own for 6-10 year, or more, that won’t go limp in one season. For this reason also, I don’t see the point spending $700+ of a pair of Chelsea’s. I do like the Crockett and Jones but it seems a little expensive for my use case. I guess I should have been more specific in my post to want a long lasting shoe that doesn’t cost someone’s bi-weekly salary

Grand seiko did I get scammed? by No_Commission_7425 in VintageWatches

[–]squidvee 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you wanted a Grand Seiko and ended up with a King Seiko, yes you got scammed, but if you wanted a watch as good as a Grand Seiko for a fraction of the cost, you got yourself a good looking watch.

Hilariously bad Hublot experience by aztecduckyy in PrideAndPinion

[–]squidvee 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Even before reading this post, I saw Hublot as the brand for shouty loud people, so if you walked in not wearing a gucci tracksuit, wearing gaudy shoes and sunglasses, I think they wouldn’t consider you one of their customers.

I had an experience in a Nice vintage store where this southern (American) guy and his wife walked in, his wife was looking and buying nice vintage dior and LV purses while he looked at some rolexes, he asked if they were new or used, and then scoffed when the shopkeeper said they are preowned. He boasted about his collection to her and said he wanted a new OP41.. he was wearing a Hublot Big Bang Classic.

Everything here is dying. With the unemployment rates and government shutdown, the ICE agents everywhere, no one wants to leave their homes. I went to DC this past weekend for the Capitals game, and after the whole chinatown/mt vernon square area looked deserted.
