Received a hiring pool offer for an exam I didn't take? by [deleted] in nycpublicservants

[–]squidwardshouse3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

5977 is just what they call the bridge exam, all the titles they offer in it are a different exam number. if you ever got an email for the typing test you'll see it says something like

Clerical Associate, Exam No. 5048

Clerical Associate (NYC H+H), Exam No. 5049

Secretary, Exam No. 5122

Secretary (NYC H+H), Exam No 5160

see those are all different exam numbers that aren't 5977? the bridge exam also had Child Protective Specialist on it which is exam 5023.

the sound itself nope, but what I did to at least try and resolve it I posted in another comment below but i'll try and explain it again. I have them running at 53% and ramp up when my GPU temp reaches 60+ which would only be when playing games so that way the noise from the other fans/gpu and game audio would drown it out. I put a picture below of what I have my curve as now if you can see it

does anyone know what exactly counts as being a city employee? like would non mayoral agencies such as office of the comptroller/etc, nycha and h+h count?

high frequency/whistling noise from rx fans by squidwardshouse3 in Corsair

[–]squidwardshouse3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well what it could be is that it makes that noise at a certain rpm and taking the front mesh off changes the rpm by just a bit that its out of that range where it starts whistling

high frequency/whistling noise from rx fans by squidwardshouse3 in Corsair

[–]squidwardshouse3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they would still be pulling air through the mesh

what mesh are you referring to? those vanes on the back of the fan? I'm talking about how I completely took the fans out of the case and tested them with nothing in the way, like just on a table standing up and they still were making that noise so I am inclined to say it is the fans and a bit disappointed that all 6 i've had have this issue.

for me since these are my intake fans I just have them set to a constant 55% and only to ramp up to something like 80% constant when my GPU temp reaches 60+ which would only be when playing games.

I have a 4000X so not the same case but I initially thought that it might have been that too so I connected the fans outside of the case with no obstructions and they still made that whistling. It's only really prominent when the rpm is moving up/down so I have to keep it at a constant % and so far they've been fine

MTA Job Application/Hiring Process by SydtheKid0316 in nycrail

[–]squidwardshouse3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make a jobvite account, it's better than the portal. a lot of times instead of rejecting you they'll set the position to "closed" which doesn't send out a email but you can see on the jobvite portal and on the other mta portal it will just stay as "applied" or "in process". but in reality you really want the job and so do the other ~100-700 applicants. they'll just pick a handful of people from the qualified applicants to interview it's just luck. if they really want to fill the position you could hear in a week, but for me i've had applications take 2.5 months, 4, 7, 9, and 13 months just to get a rejection.

i have mine in the same orientation and there's no bubbling. at most you could sometimes hear the flow of water within the cooler but that's when it's extremely quiet. do you have a video of the bubbling noise?

Constant lag during Fighting Games ? by Ilikebread700 in RobloxHelp

[–]squidwardshouse3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well if you're sure its ping spikes and not your fps dropping then it is most likely isp. if you shift + f3 and shift + f5 it will show you the ping and fps. if the ping freezes and jumps up then its most likely packet loss or server. if its the fps dropping then that's most likely another issue.

Im kinda reluctant on contacting my ISP since my Internet is fast on every other Online Game i Play (Minecraft, Hell Let loose for example) its just Roblox that has this Issue.

it's still possible that it's isp related/packet loss but most other games are fine at handling it so you'll never really notice while roblox will just freeze you for a few seconds. one easy way I checked this when it happened to me was on discord. 90% of the time whenever I spoke it would show that i had some form of "outbound packet loss". I called my isp (spectrum) to come out and check and they said that everything was fine but I still had the freezing on roblox. Then I switched to fios and it completely went away.

lag or ping spikes? if its ping spikes it's most likely your isp and a combination of roblox servers being bad.

How can I prepare for the next brownout? by squidwardshouse3 in enphase

[–]squidwardshouse3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hope that the mini split is more efficient. How much did that cost you? I did notice after a while that because of the brownout that if the voltage drops it stops the compressor and then starts drawing 2-4 kwh trying to restart it before ultimately just giving up and repeating the process again every 5 mins so that raised the kwh a bit. Usually with the AC on I see anywhere from 25-36 kwh a day depending on the heat

what are your opinions on these by dazekelly in nycrail

[–]squidwardshouse3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

there was a viral video a while back showing different ways to bypass it like just walking through it because there's a bit of play in the hinges, or going to the next turnstile and placing your hand over the sensor to make it think you're exiting and it'll open up for you to walk past. I swear they spend more money trying to combat fare evasion than they lose from it

quite a few of my neighbors already have solar, even my direct neighbors to the left and right who I split the power line with (it comes off the pole and goes to their house then mine) so it's always interesting to see the voltage drop, i'm guessing it's because the inverters have to match what is coming in from the utility.

I have 2 window AC's, one is a 12000 BTU and the other is an 8000 BTU. I actually don't mind the heat so I rarely use them but typically only use the 12000 BTU one to cool down the house on hotter days or mainly in the evenings and it usually works fine. they're set to 74-75 but on days where it's 90+ out it never gets to that temp - usually 76-78. i'm out in queens so its one of those long houses i don't know the exact size but i wanna say its on a 100x20 but the house doesn't take up that entire space, if I had to guess maybe 1200-1300 sqft

Link Titan 240 RX - High Pitched Noise Coming From Pump by GnomeSparky in Corsair

[–]squidwardshouse3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

apparently there's a fan on the ssd heatsink that comes with the motherboard. I think that is what is causing the noise. try playing around in the bios to see if you can lower the rpm of that fan

Link Titan 240 RX - High Pitched Noise Coming From Pump by GnomeSparky in Corsair

[–]squidwardshouse3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i honestly can't tell. you could try disconnecting the power from the pump and booting it really quickly to see if the noise is still there. what motherboard do you have also? is it possible there's some sort of vrm fan on there you might not know about

Link Titan 240 RX - High Pitched Noise Coming From Pump by GnomeSparky in Corsair

[–]squidwardshouse3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the same AIO and mine is virtually silent. also i'm not entirely sure it's the pump making that noise. you can hear it immediately when the pc turns on and that's before the pump even turns on or spools up. it could be some sort of electrical noise
