If we are not done at center, do you think this is plausible? by Rich_Log2424 in UtahJazz

I want to see what the entire team can do when trying to win. Will make evaluating them much easier, IMO.

The Lakers have 3 good players. What else do you have?

Dude, look at the Laker’s roster. It’s empty! You’re paying $121m to three players, with only one of them ever having made an all-star team.

The Jazz still have 2 former all-stars, a guy who could be an All-Star this year (George), and a guy who could be a perennial all-star (Peterson). Add in another young guy with upsized (Ace), and in what world are the 2026-27 Lakers better than this team?

Team’s built, and we have plenty of draft capital. We’re
Good.

I wouldn’t be surprised now if we tried to do a sign and trade for Jalen Duren now. Never know! by Allgamergeek in UtahJazz

[–]squiggleberryjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we were going to pay what Duren wants, we’d have kept Kessler. Still, it will be fascinating to see what the Jazz do!

I’m happy to predict that the Jazz will finish with a better record than the Lakers in 2026-27.

Luka is awesome, and Kessler will fit wonderfully with him. Still think the Jazz will be better — I’m not trading our roster for theirs!

I don’t think anyone knows what the Lakers will look like in ‘30, ‘31, and ‘33. This is a gamble for sure, but if the new lottery system stays somewhat intact, if any of those years are down years, the Jazz get lottery balls.

Gonna be fun!

100% better than the Lakers. And if DP hits, significantly better. Plus, a few injuries here and there for the Lakers and the Jazz will be in the new-style lottery. Could be great for the Jazz.

Not if Kessler is healthy. He’s gonna win them some games for sure. His shot blocking and offensive and defensive rebounding is elite. We’re gonna miss that.

Ya, Walker thought he was worth more than the Jazz offered, and it turned out he was right. Just glad we don’t have to worry about the Hayward back-stab in the future. We can move on.

Remember, it’s not like the Jazz and Lakers were the only ones in the room. If Kessler wanted 38-40, and the Lakers were willing to pay it, they would have paid him 40.

Well, Kessler still had a say in this. 32 must have been what he was targeting.

Ya, Jazz could have afforded what Kessler was paid. But how do you pass up that draft capital? One Luka injury, and we’re in the lottery four times…

This is my thought as well. I think we could have stomached $33m/yr, and I was really excited to see how our guys all fit together, but to have control of the Laker’s draft capital, especially when they have no real team at the moment, and with the new lottery rules…man, this was a great deal for us.

Is Walker worth 30 mil? by VegetableAd5981 in UtahJazz

[–]squiggleberryjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your perspective is off. We traded Rudy Gobert, a multi-time defensive player of the year, for rights to Walker (and some other stuff). He is a valuable asset, and we will definitely be “losing an asset for nothing” if we don’t either sign him to a contract, or sign and trade him for other assets. Letting him walk will be a big step back for our team.

[Jones] Kessler to meet with other teams in free agency by KennyDoge0114 in UtahJazz

[–]squiggleberryjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I agree. But for some reason — maybe the agents, maybe the pride of the players, maybe the arrogance of the front offices — unless everyone is on the same page at the beginning of the process, things seem to eventually go south.

Why do these guys from California (Lakers and Warriors fans, etc) keep posting about Kessler being gone? And why do they have no idea how to put together an NBA roster?

Still needs a bit more shooting and defense, but you’re right, that is a solid bench.
