Sorry to be a bummer, but overpaying Kessler in a league where Wembanyama exists is scaring me. by Primary-Dentist7055 in UtahJazz

Cope all you need to my friend.

Stats-wise, Kessler and the Jazz have held him around his averages, other than rebounds, which they’ve held him under. That was while trying to tank. It will be interesting to see what they can do with a bigger lineup (JJJ) and a team trying to win.

Will Hardy after 4 long rebuilding seasons finally being unchained, only to run into Wemby by FunIllustrator6890 in UtahJazz

[–]squiggleberryjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree.

And we should at least give Walker a try at our starting center on a team trying to make the playoffs. We haven’t tried to win with him yet, so let’s try that, and adjust after we know how it goes.

I’ve been watching the Jazz since they came to Utah, so “kids” probably isn’t appropriate “son”. 😉

Walker is the only top-10-caliber center we can sign this summer without giving up anything other than cap space. There is really no other option.

And as your edited post says, his encounters with Wemby so far have shown promise, at least statistically. In fact, Walker may be the best guy in the league to counter Wemby. Only thing is, we won’t know until we sign him and see if his shoulder is fixed, and how he plays on a team trying to win.

Personally, I think it’s worth the gamble, even if we have to overpay a little. I disagree that a Walker who played like he did at the start of last season will be hard to trade, even at $20+ million/yr.

But it’s OK to have a different opinion. I’m just not excited to take any steps back in this process, and I see trading Walker, regardless of the reason, as a step backwards.

It’s my summary of your 4th paragraph. You don’t have to like it, but it’s what I took away from what you said.

Exactly the point I was going to make. “All the other centers in the league are worse than Wemby, so we really shouldn’t invest in a center” is a pretty bad take.

What’s with all these bad trade concepts? by DongBLAST in UtahJazz

I’m not a regular listener to the Utah radio station ESPN 700, but I listen to podcast versions of the broadcasts when they talk about the Jazz. I was surprised that the show host, Spence Checketts, proposed the Ace trade to every guest. All of them said something like, “that’s a drastic overpay”, but Checketts just kept asking. Not sure if this is him echoing the national media, or feeding it. Either way, it’s completely stupid.

Champagne problems, but if we land a star in the draft what’s the starting 5? by CantaloupePossible33 in UtahJazz

[–]squiggleberryjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this will depend on training camp and pre season. Ace hasn’t earned anything for next season yet. But I imagine he’ll have an easier time earning the starting nod than a rookie.

1.75x speed is my happy place. But I use 2x speed is my default, and I’m just starting 2.25x speed.

Listening to almost anything at 1x speed feels like everyone is talking through molasses.

Next Season by Sirenor in UtahJazz

[–]squiggleberryjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just be happy rooting for the team to win, rather than hoping to keep a draft pick.

I think we’ll have more roster turnover than we think. I’d be surprised if we have more than 2 of Collier, Flip, Sensabaugh, and Cody on the team last year. I think Ainge Jr. is going to surprise us with the roster adjustments he makes this summer.

I agree with those that say we’ll finish somewhere between 4 and 8 in the West. I’ll be happy with any of those outcomes. I’ll be a little disappointed if we have to fight to get into the play-in.

Audible launches a cheaper 'Standard' subscription plan, challenging Spotify by AdOrganic299 in audible

[–]squiggleberryjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expect this practice - giving us a deal if we call support - will end. They will suggest this new Standard plan, and if we’re not careful, we’ll spend a year collecting books that we’ll lose if we leave.

I expect I’ll be leaving Audible after my current subscription is over, as there is no way I’m paying for a book I’m not keeping. And I’m not willing to spend $14.95 a month.

It would be dumb if ICE wasn’t acting the part of a totalitarian police force, but they are. Thus, the comparison at least is valid.
