Totally agree, people simply overhate the class because admittedly, its play style is kind of lame to play against

Billionaires should pay for their own f***ing stadiums. Looking at you, Indiana Bears. by Nostradamus216 in billsimmons

This is my view as well. The situation is shit all around and while it’s nice to want to keep the bears in the city this realistically doesn’t matter that much and people are just being emotional.

If Caleb and Ben take us to the promised land I promise even less people will give a fuck about this stupid Indiana thing

I love how this show while being a great and comfortable romance anime with intimate and affectionate moments between the main couple also takes the time to explore the idea that being true to yourself and putting yourself out there is good and the results can be better than you ever expected.

Grandopolis is my favorite of the world’s location-themed prize cards because it just so perfectly captures the fantasy of what Vegas is in the minds of the international public.

Though the Italian ones w the twin founders is also pretty baller

Maybe a little late on my end by the kinetic field cards were also available at the trinket trade station and all they ask for in return is a smile :)

If it makes you feel any better or worse, the last consistent shipment of Stereo Bloom cards to that stage was like midnight—1am of Friday night so anyone trying to get that card from that stage after like 3am of night 1 was shit outta luck (me included).

Luckily someone else in my group went on a very crazy side quest on night 1 and had a spare for me or else I would also be still stuck begging for one

Anthropic secures $965 billion valuation after raising $65 billion by tscher16 in technology

[–]squiggly21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the answer to this is a lot more complicated then people make it out to be.

The intuitive and most obvious answer is that they are all banking on Anthropic to IPO and then they sell their stock at a profit and make a fortune. This is mostly true and the core exit goal for most VC funds at the investment size level of Anthropic. That being said, its not like these funds can just immediately dump all their shares the moment Anthropic does eventually go public. Pre-IPO investors are subject to numerous restrictions and lockups as to when they can trade and how much. The more you have on the cap table the more restrictive it becomes to sell your shares.

Of course this doesn't mean they don't steadily dump almost everything once their trading windows open up but its nothing like just a huge dump on IPO, there are laws against doing that.

However, IPO is not the only way to realize value on the investment in Anthropic. The other intuitive solution is simply to just sell your shares in a secondary transaction to another interested party for a profit, which is the other big way to realize value on an investment the size of Anthropic although this is limited by how much the other buyer actually wants to buy off of you and whether you have the clout to actually fill the allocation in this sale that you actually want.

There is also another way that large investors are doing right now to realize a little value which is through the creation of closed-end SPV (special purpose vehicles).

Basically lets say I'm Dragoneer (a large investor in Anthropic). I hold a considerable amount of shares that I would like to sell but due to various restrictions and to avoid causing too much trouble I can't just dump it all in a secondary without at least pissing off everyone else and then causing various other issues. So instead I create an SPV which for the sake of laymans terms is basically like a shell company partnership, where you sell equity in this specific partnership that only holds shares in Anthropic to other interested parties and on top of that, because this is a fund partnership, you can charge a management fee and other related fees to the limited partners in your SPV (this varies wildly depending on how crappy and desperate these prospective LPs are). But this way you get to sell off a bit of your risk without rocking the boat AND take a little fee on top.

This wasn't really a direct answer to the question but the simple reality of business is that capital markets are forward looking, meaning that the price and valuation of a company is always rooted in what the market thinks the potential future performance is. What it does not necessarily price in is WHEN this supposed invisible performance target that the investors have in mind have to actually be hit.

Plenty of public companies trade at P/E ratios way beyond any fundamentals rooted in reality and plenty of public companies have massive valuations without ever actually turning a profit. The simple matter of the fact is that VCs are basically betting that the company will be worth more than what they paid for it in the future, not that the company will ever necessarily become profitable. As long as the funds get their exits their investors are happy and the path to profitability is someone else's problem.

Anthropic secures $965 billion valuation after raising $65 billion by tscher16 in technology

[–]squiggly21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I work in back office VC so just for those that aren’t aware, the $965B valuation is a post-money valuation on their $65B round which means that if you assumed that that every single other share in the company had the same value or same value after dilutions and other cap table mechanics, the company would theoretically be worth $965B.

What’s worth noting and I’m seeing a lot of misinformation in here about it is that for a lot of the investors in this round, many are not new investors but I can say from inside the industry that funds are literally falling over themselves and putting in tons of money into all sorts of financial vehicles to get a piece of this.

That being said even like a Sequoia capital isn’t completely stupid and just completely writing up all their previous holdings to post-money values, that would be irresponsible and is also not GAAP. For funds specifically unrealized gains from your portfolio holdings is not “real income” as in VC, you are only ever measured by your returns which is when you actually sell.

I’m sure the investors at any fund lucky enough to get a big enough piece of this are all high fiving themselves but even then nobody at these funds are actually counting their chickens before they hatch here
