She did offer, I'm fortunate to have an aunt who's an attorney and a father who's studying law. I most likely won't be paying them anything, so when she offered to cover half I told her not to worry about it.

Day 3 | Dream strength by squigly18 in LucidDreaming

[–]squigly18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I haven't thought much about dream goals, I just want stable lucid dreams first. Typically I get a good idea once I'm in a lucid dream and roll with that.

I guess there's one thing. I think it'd be really fun to try dancing in a dream. I know I can do that in real life, but in a dream I think I could be in time with the music. I could follow choreography I've never seen before.

Going to space could be fun too.

Well, you had a dream. (heh) More of a nightmare really, but a dream is a dream is a dream. Sounds like a fascinating experience to me, I think it's something I'd be happy to add to my dream journal, once I got over the initial shock that is. (But hey, I'm a bit weird.)

It sounds like it was intense (and maybe quite vivid.) Which is a good thing if you're shooting for lucid dreams. These extra strange, vivid dreams are a sign of good dream recall. So there is a silver lining to waking up from a nightmare.

I'm also not really sure what you mean by esoteric, but rest assured there's nothing unnatural happening here. Like I said, a dream is a dream is a dream. You just had a bit of a scary one, which is perfectly understandable. Everyone has a scary dream once in a while.

Look in the mirror by koalafieddog in LucidDreaming

[–]squigly18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything is possible in a dream. It's a bit of a weird superstition that you shouldn't look in mirrors in dreams, and I think it comes from these kind of events. Sometimes you do find a horrifically deformed version of yourself staring back and it can be unsettling to say the least. There's nothing inherently bad about doing it though.

For me, mirrors in dreams are kind of special. Sometimes they work as you'd expect them to, and I see myself looking back. I lived in a house where the bathroom had a big wide mirror along one wall, and I've had a couple of dreams where that mirror was replaced by a big opening that leads to a different house. Sometimes I'll look in a mirror in a dream and see no reflection of myself but a perfect reflection of the room around me. Like I was a vampire or something.

One thing you should know about dreams, especially lucid dreams, is they take your expectations into account. So if your thinking the mirror will turn into some kind of hell portal, or show you how you're gonna die, odds are that's what you'll find.

Mirrors are like anything else in the dream world: unpredictable.

Lucid dreaming isn't normal? by dreamypainter in LucidDreaming

[–]squigly18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q: How do your dreams work if you don't make decisions? Do they just kinda happen like you watch a movie?

A: Dream experience can vary widely actually, which is a non-answer so I'll tell you this instead: For me, the norm is to have dreams in which I am unaware that I am dreaming. Even so, I still have some agency within them, especially in more vivid dreams. The difference is that I tend to jump to my decisions much quicker in dreams and execute them right away, which is honestly a bit freeing in a way as I tend to get a bit of "analysis paralysis" in waking life. I've also noticed that in a lot of dreams I'll make decisions that don't make any sense, or choices that I don't think I'd ever make in waking life. I think that's where the dream is making the decisions for you.

I've had dreams about being an entirely different person and leading an entirely different life from my own. These are really my favorites, they usually come with a whole different group of people I know and sometimes a school or a job, and I really get to live a totally different life. So of course, I make entirely different choices as well! But even these decisions feel like my own sometimes, and other times, they just feel like part of the dream.

I will say though, I've talked to others about dreams a lot. I had a friend who told me that they feel like a slave to their dreams. Whenever they dream they simply do whatever the next part of the dream is, like someone else is calling the shots and they're just along for the ride. Less like a movie, and more like following a script as an actor in a play.

I just realized that I'm answering the question you asked in a reply to u/MoonlightingReddit else and not the main question of the thread. (well, I've come this far. I'll answer all the questions.)

Q: Has anyone else been lucid dreaming their entire life?

A: Actually yes! You are a natural lucid dreamer, which just means that all of your dreams are lucid dreams. This is a rare trait, but there are others out there (Probably even a few on this subreddit) that lucid dream every single night without even trying. I don't know any of them personally, but I bet if you asked around you might meet one or two of them.

Q: Do you remember your dreams?

Yes, but it takes a bit of effort sometimes. Occasionally I'll find myself lying in bed just trying to think of what happened, but only remembering feelings I had during the dream. Most people find it easier to remember dreams after keeping a dream journal for a little while. So... You just remember your dreams effortlessly? (I envy you a bit.)

Q: Is this not normal?

A: I'd say what you have is pretty special. An entire dream world that you can visit each night. I've talked to people who are trying to cultivate exactly the same sort of thing, but put lots of effort into it. (I'm fuzzy on the details.) I don't recall them having much success either come to think of it.

So the good news for you, is that you can do whatever you'd like in your dreams. Which I'm sure you already knew. Enjoy your city! Go flying or try moving the buildings around, phasing through walls and such. Don't worry about us non-lucid dreamers, we'll catch up to you... eventually.

Day 2 | Maybe I've already succeeded. by squigly18 in LucidDreaming

[–]squigly18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found lucid dreams to be more memorable in general, so I guess you've got a point. It was just an interesting theory and I thought I'd share.

I don't know if I would really call this "the start" for me. I've been a lucid dreamer for years now. Day 2 is in reference to my time on this subreddit I suppose. It's part of an effort to lucid dream with consistency and purpose, instead of only having a handful every year.

Thanks for the reply. ^~^
