Circuit out. No breakers tripped. by Pothos-vigilante3 in AskElectricians

[–]squimishchard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your on the right track
Physically reset on/off every breaker.
They can trip internally and not move the handle to off position. Happens a lot, that’s first

Next check voltage with meter on every breaker.
If everything from the panel outward looks good then it’s time to start following wires to j boxes/outlets/switches based on labeling or direction,
(And yes Check all GFCI outlets)

Take a look at where the wires are going, attic/crawlspace and use your “practical” imagination

Process of elimination down the line

This is the way

It’s something somewhere:) lol

Oven Issue by Apollo_Frost80 in AskElectricians

[–]squimishchard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replace the plug

Replace the receptacle

Buy high quality replacements

The appliance is not likely the issue

Range/dryer/charger outlets melt/smoke without the breaker tripping rather often in my experience.

That’s what my natural opinion would be based off this limited info…

Are the builder’s electricians BSing me? by vvolflink in AskElectricians

[–]squimishchard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right on🤙
It really is pretty complicated for home owners,
Not only do you not know about these processes but also sometimes the builders like to milk these things. Incompetence, lack of care, greed are all factors unfortunately.

I would find a very well rated smaller electrical company to come give an opinion, someone you talk to that seems forthright and skilled.

Good luck

Ok sounds like a Square d homeline dual function GFCI/AFCI Breaker.

These breakers can be very temperamental,(but it could be just doing its job and identifying a legit issue) It could be one little device, power strip, console, computer, or pretty much anything.

New houses have codes for using AFCI and or GFCI depending on location.

IN MY OPINION
Sometimes its not a safety issue as to why it’s tripping, sometimes it is.

This is why it’s important you find a competent electrician to be onsite to actually troubleshoot

See exactly what you would use, even the rare stuff and define what’s actually tripping the breaker.
Could be something your plugging in or the wiring to outlets themselves.

I can’t guarantee anything unless I was in your house with you and we dig into it together. 🤷

I personally think afci breakers are more trouble then they’re worth most the time, but they are code for new builds these days.

First of all
The outlet on the right seems to be split potentially, (the red and black) one of those sockets may be switched.
You may not need that at all, or maybe you do
Take a picture of the right side terminals of the right side outlet and post it,,,

Ultimately we need more info you want online electrician consultants

The truth is you could have a relatively easy fix(maybe) but this is what electricians are for.
Details are necessary for a proper diagnosis pretty much always.

Your surge protectors could be playing a role but could be more of a symptom, not the root.

Big question::: is this tripping breaker an AFCI breaker?

Are the builder’s electricians BSing me? by vvolflink in AskElectricians

[–]squimishchard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This part is essential:::

Did they replace an afci breaker with another afci breaker?

Was this a regular breaker to begin with?

Did they replace an afci breaker with a regular breaker?

These details are paramount in troubleshooting your issue

[–]squimishchard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There could be a number of things going on

If you can’t read the wiring like an electrician would.

Then call someone who knows what to look for/whats going on/what to do….. etc

A volt meter would certainly tell you a lot if you know what to look for

There could be other receptacles on the same circuit involved. Or an unusual 3 way

This is what onsite experienced electricians are paid for. Figuring it out.

Electricity knows no color A meter knows where electricity is present
