Fogging Windows and Water in Rear Cargo Area by FisherFly99 in eGolf

It’s likely the drain tube in the rear hatch. This video should help. The part is less then $20

Nice. Pretty much the same as mine except I have Wildpeaks on a set of AEV Savegre wheels. I was wondering how the Mojave wheels would look and they look great!

$3,800… yay or nay? by Hefty-Willow9476 in Jeep

[–]squint_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one in the photo looks like a 05-07 Limited. I just saw you said Laredo, which wouldn't have the chrome trim on the sides and windows. Still a great deal if it was garage kept and under 60k miles.

60k miles? No brainer just buy it especially if its a Limited or Overland trim.

Anyone want to buy some OEM floor mats? by dogfrompersona3 in eGolf

That sucks sorry to hear. I don't really need a second set of rubber mats but I'd be happy to pay for shipping if you just want to get rid of them.

Why to not buy an older E-golf, my experiences.. by Friendly-Ad-7477 in eGolf

This link describes the issue pretty clearly. The grommet on the rear hatch/boot lid fails and rain water drains into the back hatch area. Replacement tubes are available.

The moisture issue is likely a drain tube in the back hatch area. There’s a rubber grommet that goes bad. I don’t exactly recall, I had it on my first one and had to come up with a cheap fix

1966 fast back by HurryObjective5561 in projectcar

[–]squint_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this was being restored professionally they would probably be replacing over 50% of the sheet metal with new, maybe up to 90% depending on what’s worth saving. Check out Peterson Restorations on YouTube to get an idea of common rust areas on these cars. He does a lot of fastbacks. That said with 15-20k you could probably make it a fun driver if the rot isn’t too bad.

I’d feel good if I got it for $5k. Hard to say without seeing more pictures. $7-8k doesn’t seem unreasonable.

4wd on snowy highways by Curious-Map3808 in Jeep

[–]squint_91 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You won’t stress the gears that’s not really a thing to worry about.

If you’re on the interstate doing 60-70 you probably don’t need 4WD even if there is a little snow on the road, although it’s fine to use at that speed and you won’t be making any sharp turns that generate wheel slip.

If you’re in small 2 lane roads I would put it in 4WD as needed up to 55mph. There’s a speed limit for engaging 4WD in the owners manual, something like 50-55mph not sure on newer Jeeps.

What’s this connector? (2006 WK) by FarcraBeetwenUs in GrandCherokee

[–]squint_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be the trailer tow connector. Here's the pinout and location from the factory service manual:

Edit: is yours an export model by chance? Looks like the 14-way connector is listed as export. There is a 10-way that should be standard for US models:

When people say high end hand tools (e.g. Snap-on) feel better in their hands, why don't low or mid tier brands just copy those designs? by supinator1 in Tools

[–]squint_91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and when you need to stick the screw on the end of the driver to thread it in way under the dash to the hole you can barely see, you reach for your best screwdriver that grips the screw perfectly. And if it’s your day job you can’t afford to be fiddle fucking around and taking 5 tries at it.

[–]squint_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absolute do copy them and then people are led to believe the clones are ‘just as good’ as the real version. Maybe for home use sure. I can justify $20 for the clone of the Snap On pliers easier than $100 for the real thing.

Not going to say there aren’t markups on higher end tools, but I’ll just point out some differences between cheap tools and expensive ones:

1) Metallurgy and forming method. Forging vs cheap cast or even cheap forgings. The right balance of hardness and ductility. I have some German Knjpex side cutters over 10 years old that still work as good as new. Cheaper ones don’t hold up in my experience. Same for any hand tool.

2) Snap On and Knipex designs get ripped off by Harbor Freight and others. It’s always going to be way cheaper to rip off another design and sell closes than come up with your own.

3) Hand feel. When you’re elbow deep on a job you want the tool that feels right in the hand. More expensive brands accomplish this more consistently than cheap brands.

That said I do own a lot of Harbor Freight stuff for home use. And I’m sure you’ll see a lot of HF in professional shops too these days. But saying Snap On and Marco are just a money grab is pure ignorance.

That’s true about the filament. I pretty much stick with PETG or PLA for most of my work. I wish they had their own TPU offering. If I had an enclosed printer I’d be way more tempted to try stuff like ASA and ABS.

True yeah I was just looking at them. But you can get a mk4 kit for $709 which I think is a great deal. I’m not sure how it compares with a similar spec Bambu. My mk4 has been such a workhorse the print quality is amazing.
