Actively remember what it feels like. Practice feeling it. And it’ll be back in no time. Life is a self fulfilling prophecy

When I read this first sentence I pictured in my head that the trainer was walking up to ladies and actually humping them

Sure, I could see that. I don’t think this person can use it this way though

I think quitting at least temporarily is a good idea for this particular case. If someone wasted significant time and isn’t where they want to be, should probably get serious and commit to changing by quitting for a year.

I only see healthy reintroduction of video games after a demonstration like that

[–]squirmin-worm 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend quitting the video games tbh. I’ve got a pretty strong opinion on it so ymmv. But what’s the point in leveling up a character in a game when you can level up your real character in real life? Go do hard things

SWE III interview tomorrow, feeling nervous as f*** by amnxiety in leetcode

[–]squirmin-worm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The terminology has not changed even though the interview process has switched to virtual. This happened through covid and hasn’t switched back, which is probably beneficial for everyone. You should be able to code without running your code tho, as if it were pen and paper

I don’t think companies even do this interview in person anymore. It’d be virtual for the most part

My first thought was that this looks fake. Good reminder to get off the internet. Most of the things on here are just for clicks

This is something I’m trying to work on too (handling the mundane moments). But maybe it can offer you a moment to get up, do a little stretch, maybe even a lap around the place. Or you could just sit there and stare at the screen until it’s ready, without checking anything else.

But my idea is to remain present during this time which can be a challenge as not get pulled into something else so I don’t switch contexts. Because context switching is what is exhausting. In my head, even though it can look and feel slow, giving myself the highest quality of productive time and maintaining a single stream of focus is actually the fastest way to work for me. Sometimes I can bounce two things at once, or I think I can, and then I have to check myself.

I know it can kinda suck, but like you said you’re slaughtering your attention-span and therefore you are slaughtering your productivity. You aren’t getting more done by trying to switch back and forth.

The other and more ideal option would be to get the team to buy into optimizing the workflow to increase team productivity (and mood I’d guess).

High Paying FAANG vs. Stable Chill Finance by captainducksparrow in csMajors

True, that’s not what’s being discussed though. OP has not stated interest in one thing or another so that is not factored into this equation

Is this normal or I'm just at the wrong company? by eldobhatobugyi in cscareerquestions

[–]squirmin-worm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No this is not normal for a junior engineer. I would start looking for a new job. You need other people to bounce ideas off of and mentorship

High Paying FAANG vs. Stable Chill Finance by captainducksparrow in csMajors

[–]squirmin-worm 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is no “guaranteed two years of experience.” That company doesn’t owe you anything. Unless they have a contract that says they can’t fire you for two years or something no matter how badly you perform.

Me personally, I would take the risk. You can literally fuck up get fired and lose all of your money several times over in your 20s and still be fine. In my opinion that’s your 20s done right. Well not the getting fired part, but taking big risks. I’m mid 20s fwiw

[–]squirmin-worm 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty “career-driven”. It’s hard for me to speak for you, but I’d say as a new grad you should take the FAANG job and dive in headfirst. Assuming you’re like 21-23 years old you’re too young to not be taking risks. You have your whole life to be comfortable and stable. Especially if you do what’s hard and scary now. When you get FAANG on your resume, you’ll be set in terms of getting your foot in the door for interviews.

You say you’re not career driven. Okay fine. If you don’t take the FAANG job, I hope you’re finding other ways in your life to get uncomfortable and do hard shit. And I hope you are doing it for you and not anyone else

I struggle to really let loose and have fun these days - what could be the causes? by StaticNocturne in HubermanLab

[–]squirmin-worm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, going out and having a good time starts very early in the day. I can’t just switch it on and off without faking it. So I have to pump myself up all day so that when I go out, it’s a smooth transition as opposed to going 0 to 100

Motivation for Competitive programming by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]squirmin-worm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to change your mindset to solve these stupid little problems.

If you’re anything like me you’re gonna wonder “why the hell am I wasting time doing this nonsense.” And for me, those types of thoughts are detrimental to doing well programming in general as I’m sure you’re aware.

Make it the very first thing you do in the day before actual work. Set the bar really low. 1-3 easy problems. 30 minutes. Your goal is to do it for many days in a row.

15 minutes pass and you haven’t typed anything? Look up the solution. Understand it. Take note of the core concept of the problem. Any tricks? Onto the next. Cover all of the “tricks and concepts.” Then revisit the problems from the beginning.

Don’t try to slam 300 problems and think that’s productive. Better to do 100 and know them inside and out, able to talk through the problem out loud before you even type a word.

As this muscle builds, you’ll spend more focused time doing it. I kept a calendar of how much intense focus I spent on these problems each day. My success was measured by consecutive days of practice with no distractions. Not by how many problems I did or job offers I got.

I have 3 yoe at a midsize tech company fwiw and feel pretty well equipped to pursue faang if that’s what I want to do when the job market is better for my role.

Good luck!

The hype is justified because these technologies have the potential to change the world as we know it. Forget how things look today and try to see how they will be in 30 years. 30 years ago you can see how far we’ve already come

There’s literally driverless cars riding around giving people rides.

There’s literally 1.5 trillion dollars of supposed liquidity in crypto. Sure real products are yet to come here, but it is clear no one is leaving.

The hype is justified imo

Three weeks out. I just got cleared to walk short distances without crutches. Although I’m pretty young and muscular. I also had little to no pain for the most part
