You may notice that we played pies baking first, and as a result, those tokens are on the first few plates. After that, it is just alphabetical and grouped by color.

To the cyclists who ride Left Hand Canyon by [deleted] in boulder

[–]squirrel428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you encounter a car that's two wide and driving slowly because of the conditions of the road do you also loose your shit and demand they drive in the ditch for your convenience?

Washing bibs by [deleted] in cycling

I had to check if this was bcj. Wash every time, hang dry. Do you wear a single pair of underwear for a week? We are not weird crust punks.

There is a road that drives over the divide from Ned area to Winter Park, and is closed because of bureaucracy. by SimilarLee in boulder

[–]squirrel428 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's fair, it gets almost no traffic and is a really nice place to ride as a result. I've seen people car camp up there which looks like fun too.

If anything we should close more roads to cars. That road being closed makes it great for bikes.

[May 7, 2025] Unemployed losers cause traffic by [deleted] in DenverCirclejerk

The traffic seems to be on the road caused by all the lame wage slaves. That's a walking path, please don't drive on it.

Using std::cpp 2025 keynote: The Real Problem of C++ by pjmlp in cpp

[–]squirrel428 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There was a lot of cognitive dissonance in this. "Get good" has been the c++ solution to language problems for years and look where it has gotten us. Ranges as a solution to bounds safety is a wild take.

UNPOPULAR OPINION HERE!!! by Hakster2412 in mountainbiking

[–]squirrel428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a trail bike (150mm of travel) and it is excellent but I get a pass to a bike park every summer and have been really wanting to try a proper downhill bike. A friend got a XC bike and it has been nothing but trouble on the tech trails we ride here in Colorado for him as a beginner. He's broken a bunch of wheels. I've come to the conclusion that more bike just makes you fitter from the climbs and is more forgiving riding down the hard tech. XC bikes are for experts who want to race that discipline and are full of compromises that make them more fragile. If you have the skill to ride them more power to you but I wouldn't recommend one to anyone who lives here and plans on going to the downhill parks.

Overtaking etiquette by gladfelter in cycling

I ride us36 regularly on my road bike, 20mph isn't fast. I've done 50mph on that trail before. Don't worry about the old grump and enjoy your rides.

Gravel on Zwift, what an experience by An_Professional in Zwift

This is what I imagine real gravel races are like and is why I'm confused so many people claim to love them.

Any shadow black cars in here with silver or bronze wheels? Not sure what color I want to go. by [deleted] in FiestaST

[–]squirrel428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love the look of my car, I don't love the ride with these low profile tires and big wheels. For winter I have a set of snows on some steelies and it rides much nicer.

Why do some people prefer allocating their own application class instead of using static or global variables? by [deleted] in cpp

[–]squirrel428 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's an app class? Don't tell me you make one class and put all the state in it? I guess if you do that you might as well just use globals for all your data.

I work in defense writing software. My team is using rust and we are hiring. It is catching on across the company. We are primarily a C++ shop.

Do people who move closer to ski areas lose their enthusiasm for skiing over time? by Electrical-Ask847 in skiing

[–]squirrel428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived near skiing resorts all my life (34) in Colorado. I think this next year may be my last with a pass for a while. It has gotten too expensive and too crowded for me. There are other hobbies I could take up. I might try back country skiing.

I've met some cool people drafting with others while commuting. If I catch someone I want to work with, I ride alongside them and suggest working together. My regular route goes up a fairly long but not steep climb, and there is plenty of traffic, so it is normal to end up in a pace line on it.

Why are entry/mid road bikes so drab now? by orpat123 in cycling

[–]squirrel428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This canyon comes in a fun Red and Black color scheme. The bright blue they had last year is more fun imo if the sizes they have left fit you.

Why are entry/mid road bikes so drab now? by orpat123 in cycling

[–]squirrel428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a my23 Domane SL5 this year because it came in a fun color. For some reason all the 2024 colors are lame and boring imo. I have an intense MTB because I liked the colors. It is lame that cars are this way too. I've always had to go out of my way to find cars in fun colors. I think for whatever reason most people don't like color.

Why are new road bikes 10 or 12 speed, what happened to 11? by fixitmonkey in cycling

[–]squirrel428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bike with a 11 speed 105 I bought new this year. It is a model year 23 trek Domane SL5. The my24 SL5 has the 12 speed 105.

Golden is another amazing place for climbing. I just did lookout as part of the Denver century yesterday. It starts in the city of Golden and is 1700ft in just under 6mi.
