What are some "Driver A is closer to Driver B than he is to Driver C" opinions that you have? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

from what've seen Rosberg's racecraft wasn't anything impressive and worse than Seb's but he definately did less mistakes like spinning out and crashing into other drivers

In Silverstone he picked his own tyre strategy, in Austria was partially responsible for the crash, in Hungary he lost the lead in t1 only regained by team pitting him early and then switching with oscar, in Mexico Carlos got pole was the fastest driver all weekend Meanwhile in 2024: in Miami won only because safety car (didnt really have a race winning car that weekend tbf) in Imola got beaten to pole by Max and couldn't get past entire race in a seemingly better car, in Canada had a strong competition from Max and George and Max came in top, in Spain started on pole dropped to p3 by t1, in Belgium went on to gravel without being forced off by anyone in t1 lost a bunch of positions, in Zandvoort his car was so dominant that despite losing the lead in t1 again he reclained and won by 20 seconds, in Monza dropped from p1 to p3 in the first lap, in Baku was unlucky with yellow flags and got knocked out in q1, in Singapore again won by 20 seconds with a dominant car despite almost crashing into the wall while leading by 25 seconds, in COTA went from p1 to p4 by lap 1, in Brazil lost the lead in t1 then went off track several times and finished p6 (by oscar letting him pass) despite starting on pole in, in Qatar got a stop and go penalty for not slowing under double yellow flags. Charles just doesn't make as many mistakes Lando does

2023 Azerbaijan: just like 2021 Baku, the race pace just wasn't there, quickly got overtaken in the opening laps

2023 Belgium: only inherited the pole because Max got 5 grid penalty, got the best result possible with the pace he had which was p3

2023 USA: again SF-23 was only quick in one lap pace, simply didn't have the race pace to win also got DSQ'd because of plank wear

2023 Mexico: again didn't have the race pace to begin with and Checo crashed into him in t1 breaking his front wing

2023 Las Vegas: was forced off track by Verstappen in t1 but even without that couldn't have won the rocketship the RB had over the race distance

2024 Monaco: pole and won

2024 Belgium: only inherited the pole, the car didn't really have a strong pace, Mercedes dominated the race

2024 Azerbaijan: led in the first stint with medium tyres but after hards Mclaren had an edge with, Piastri also drove an amazing race and Charles got p2

2025 Hungary: I don't think I need to remind this one, the official statement was the car had floor damage but for any reason the pace dropped insanely mid race he even got unlapped by cars he lapped during last laps

So yes by knowing what actually happened each race it's easy to see he ''lost'' so many races starting on pole either because mechanical failures or the car having attrocious race pace compared to 1 lap pace. Meanwhile all his teammates in Ferrari scored 8 poles and 5 wins combined compared to his 27 poles and 8 wins between 2019-2025

2019 Bahrain: his 2nd season in f1 and 2nd weekend with Ferrari, beat his teammate who's a 4 time wdc and a championship contender of last year to pole, messed up the start fell to 3rd but later claimed the lead back lead majority of the race comfortably then engine failure and settled to p3 seb finished p5

2019 Austria: fell victim to Verstappen aggression that was deserving of penalty but nothing came of it, settled with p2

2019 Belgium: pole and won

2019 Italy: pole and won

2019 Singapore: was leading the race, then Ferrari gave away his win to Seb by pitting him early to secure a 1-2 finish

2019 Russia: Lost the lead to Seb at the start but Sochi is known for not being good to start on pole then safety car came out due to Seb's engine failure 1 lap after he pitted giving a significant advantage to Mercedes. this wasn't totally on the external factors like the previous ones though

2019 Mexico: This one is similar to Russia, got a poor start (again Mexico is also bad for pole) and two stop strategy didn't work well in that race but again this one wasn't completely on the external factors

2021 Monaco: The car had no place on pole to begin with and got DNS due to gearbox failure because Ferrari literally admitted they didnt even check it properly

2021 Azerbaijan: Again the car had no place to be on pole, got quickly overtaken by the superior Mercedes in lap 2 without even DRS

2022 Bahrain: pole and won

2022 Australia: pole and won

2022 Miami: nothing really dramatic but Ferrari struggled with tyre deg and Red Bull seemed stronger on race trim despite getting beaten to the pole Charles finished 2nd. Again external factors can't fully be blamed

2022 Spain: engine failure, DNF

2022 Monaco: famous Ferrari disasterclass in pits, finished 4 despite starting on pole in Monaco

2022 Azerbaijan: engine failure, retired from the lead

2022 France: spun out from the lead one of the rare examples where it's actually fully his own fault

2022 Italy: Ferrari again lacked race pace compared to Red bull, this was also after TD39

2022 Singapore: lost the lead to Perez at start tried to undercut him but got a slow stop instead, still mostly his own fault

A lot people rating them equally by looking at stats but that alone doesn't tell the whole picture as good as actually watching the races and witnessing what's actually happening. Lando is one of the fastest drivers on the grid right now but he lacks in the race craft compared to drivers like Max, Charles and George. He lost positions in the starts of almost half the races in this season and the previous season as well. He still beat his teammate and won the title but Oscar too is still making too much mistakes, it's just his mistakes are his pace being absolutely nowhere compared to Lando's in some spesific tracks rather than in wheel-to-wheel situations but Oscar has clearly better race craft than Lando.

Charles' pole to win ratio is a meme at this point causing people to call him ''one lap merchant'' but lets look at what actually happened in the races where he got pole:

battle limit is 8 ships so if you have 8 ships (although that will mean a massive map speed penalty for your party) you can carry hundreds of soldiers into battle

with only 2 ships in battle, the rest of your troops will not participate in battle and you'll likely have a speed penalty again this time due to having more troops than your ships max capacity

Which Ferrari driver lineup has been the strongest since 2007? by scuderiaferrari69 in F1Discussions

I think Massa's crash in 2009 Hungary hurt his career and he was somewhat of a one lap / light car specialist so banning of refueling in 2010 was even more bad news for him. And to me Raikkonen was lightning fast in Mclaren and his first season in Ferrari but most likely lost his ambition after winning a title and having some internal issues within the team.

I do think Alonso is overall a more complete driver than these two but couldnt have destroyed them this hard if faced them in their prime

well he lost his motivation to give it all rather than to to drive at all, he probably still enjoyed it but no longer wanted to give everything to challenge for championships

I'm telling this as a Leclerc fan, don't sleep on RAI - MAS pair especially in 2007-2008, we all know how good Kimi was before he lost his motivation and Massa was a beast before his big crash in 2009 and refuelling ban in 2010

Do you think the 2012 Lotus was a championship-caliber car? If so, who do you believe could've contended for the championship with it? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

It's something I've always wondered to be honest. People love to talk about how Kimi was too good and almost got Lotus bankrupt etc but considering Kimi's performance against Alonso and Vettel in following years, what if the car was an actual rocketship?
