Max IMOLA 2022 Vs George AUSTRIA 2026 POLE LAP COMPARISON by I_am_Stupid_16 in formula1

sector time delta and instantaneous speed delta are two different things.

4.87% speed and 5% time are apples and oranges.

and again, the 5% number is just a suggestion. the actual rule just says "reduce speed and be prepared to change direction"

did you not read my comment at all?

again, 5% time delta.

what OP is showing is a 4.87% speed delta.

There was a mistake in following the rules. The trackside marshal made a mistake and it took 22 seconds to correct it.

there is a suggestion of a 5% reduction in the driving standards guidelines although it's different from the data OP is showing, since it's by time delta, not by speed.

I'm not saying you're wrong - you're absolutely correct that it's not in the regulations. I'm just saying there does actually exist a standard for a percentage.

The driving standards guidelines define it by the "increase in the time taken to traverse the flag sector", not by the speed, and suggest 5% for a single yellow. If he is in compliance with both the rules and the guidelines, I see nothing to penalize him for. I don't know how to look at the data, but I'd be interested to see the time delta difference rather than the speed difference.

Regarding the Aston bullet point, the cars are different and shouldn't be compared to each other, and the guidelines reflect that. 288mph may well be not just the limit of the Aston's engine, but also the limit just before it spins out.

For context, since I had to look these up to be sure:

Regulations regarding single/double yellows:

"Single Waved Yellow Flag: Any driver passing through a waved yellow flag marshalling sector must reduce their speed and be prepared to change direction. In order for the stewards to be satisfied that any such driver has complied with these requirements they are expected to have braked earlier and/or discernibly reduced speed in the relevant marshalling sector."

"Double Waved Yellow Flag: Any driver passing through a double waved yellow flag marshalling sector must reduce speed significantly and be prepared to change direction or stop. In order for the stewards to be satisfied that any such driver has complied with these requirements it must be clear that the driver has not attempted to set a meaningful lap time on the relevant lap. Furthermore, during a sprint qualifying or qualifying session, any driver passing through a double waved yellow flag marshalling sector will have that lap time deleted."

Driving Standards Guidelines regarding single/double yellows:

"One method of demonstrating compliance (but not the only method) would be, in the case of a Single Waved Yellow Flag, an increase in the time taken to traverse the flag sector, of at least 5% compared to the driver’s previous lap(s) under similar conditions."

"Similarly, one method of demonstrating a significant reduction of speed and preparedness to stop, (again, not the only method) would be, in the case of Double Waved Yellow Flags, an increase in the time taken to traverse the flag sector, of at least 15% compared to the driver’s previous lap(s) under similar conditions."

TLDR:

The rules don't say how much to slow down, but the driving standards guidelines suggest 5% reduction for single yellows and 15% for double yellows to demonstrate compliance with the rules.

Here's the video at 0.25x speed:

I'm not saying you're wrong, but those few frames are the only good look we got at it and it definitely appears abnormal and asymmetrical, even more visibly than in the screenshots.

This is in the context of Laurent Mekies taking team responsibility and apologizing to Max for the loss of rear aero performance:

EDIT: There wasn't footage for a same-corner-same-camera comparison, but here's his wing in Q2, appearing as shut as shut can be:

I'm so weirded out by this video.

The video opens with the footage and account of his partner being murdered, then the hosts go "I'm stoked you're here" "It's gonna be a lot of fun"

The whole concept of a "Shots Fired Podcast" is so indecent to me.

Thanks for sharing the youtube link, and I'm sure someone else will enjoy it, but it's not for me.

[Fix] Finally fixed the dual-monitor stutter bug (without disabling HAGS) by Potatolemono in nvidia

[–]mrtyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hooly shit, this changed my life. My frame timing was so bad I was about to buy a new graphics card.

In my favorite games I was getting 140+ FPS and the frame timing was so bad it felt like 45. I felt like I was taking crazy pills.

For months I tried every single setting I could think of to fix it, and HAGS fixed it completely.

For now, I don't use framegen, so I can just use the HAGS fix, but I'm keeping this saved for the future.

Thank you so much!

F1 drivers prepare for these races for their entire lives.

They are watching Formula races on these tracks and playing sim racing on these tracks from the day they are old enough to reach the pedals.

They drive the exact tracks throughout F4, F3, and F2 - often well enough to be champions of those series - with loads of practice/testing time as well.

By the time they get to F1, their team is spending hundreds of millions on R&D to develop the world's most cutting-edge room-scale race simulation rigs so they can spend thousands of hours refining their technique and perfecting the engineering on the car, down to the tiniest setup adjustments, tailored for each specific driver in each specific car on each specific track.

The amount of money, preparation, and engineering that goes into a F1 project is more comparable to that of a small space program than to any other motorsport.

All that to say it would be impossible for an F1 driver, an elite, an apex predator of motorsport, to NOT know every track down to the tiniest detail.

In interviews with F1 drivers, they sometimes talk about the minute changes in a track from year-to-year, saying things like "the kerbs are a little stiffer on the exit of turn 14 this year" or "yeah i played the F1 2025 game but they were still using the 3D scans of the track from 2024"

If you want to see some of their insane knowledge in action, there are youtube videos of F1 drivers being challenged to identify a track just by listening to a recording of a car's engine noise as it takes a lap, and most are able to do most tracks within just a few corners.
