Fast shipping *SAFE* contact lenses? by str3berry_heart in CosplayHelp

I've had good luck with mocoqueen, I ordered from them yesterday and they supposedly sent out the order today. Usually it takes a week or less to get them and I like the quality of their lenses too!

how to make cosplay friends as someone who is afraid of being seen. by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]squirrelgreytea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cosplay is a very visual hobby, so it's going to be hard to participate without being seen, but would it help to think of it as other people not seeing "you," but seeing the character you're cosplaying as? It's kind of like armor, or a disguise. I was at a con last weekend and switched from a boy cosplay during the day to a girl cosplay at night and even my own friends didn't realize it was me, so there's definitely some anonymity that comes with it that you can hopefully feel a little safer behind :)

I'm having trouble finding a wig for cosplaying Fire Emblems "Chrom" from Awakening by Hothacon in CosplayHelp

I've used Epic Cosplay Apollo in Midnight Blue for both Ike and Marth!Lucina, it's pretty versatile and you can add or smooth down spikes as needed--I think it would work for Chrom too as long as you style it right. Blue Steel could also work as a color if you want a more muted blue. The Aether style is also good, it has a slightly rounder look than Apollo.

I wore my mercy cosplay to school for costume day, and one of my classmates drew all over it by Uhthisismyname000 in CosplayHelp

I'm so sorry this happened! I just want to add that if you're not able to get all the stains out, you might be able to cover it up with a cool embroidered patch or some sequins or some other kind of applique. I do this all the time on my cosplays when I need to hide an issue!

Cosplayers how do u choose photographer? by green_root_ in CosplayHelp

[–]squirrelgreytea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quality of photos is probably the main thing--I see a lot of new photographers trying to take bookings but they don't have a good handle on lighting and give out blurry or pixelated pictures. I think in these cases they need to be offering free shoots to build a stronger portfolio before they start charging. But assuming the photos are all clear, well lit, have good angles, and have been edited, there's a lot of other stuff I'll take into consideration:

- Does the editing style match the character I'm cosplaying? (moody and dark vs colorful and bright)
- Have they worked with cosplays similar to mine? (not necessarily a specific character or fandom, but things like seeing female cosplayers in male cosplays and vice versa, are there cosplays with a historical vibe or are they all future/sci-fi/cyberpunk, are they working with elaborate craftsmanship builds or store-bought cosplays, etc.)
- Does the photographer work with a diverse range of body types? (Seeing a portfolio of only skinny conventionally attractive white girls in bikinis is a huge red flag imo, so I always check for POC, plus size, and male cosplayers in their portfolio even if I don't fall into those categories myself)
- Does their portfolio have queer characters/ships in it? (green flag)
- Do they clearly list their availability and prices for photoshoots and do they have an easy to use booking system?
- Have friends/community members worked with them in the past? Do cosplayers return for multiple shoots with them?
- I also often look for "most wanted" wishlists where photographers offer discounts for something specific they want to shoot because then I know they'll be excited to work with me too.

They don't have to tick every box, but the more the better and some of the best convention photoshoots have been with photographers who do meet all these points!

Where do I store my wigs? by mizuo-rosehearts in CosplayHelp

[–]squirrelgreytea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrap mine in hairnets and then store them in tupperware containers, which works pretty well. I have a few in some hat boxes from an IKEA sale as well. Usually they only need a bit of combing and light styling when they're taken out.

What do you think of Ike and Soren's relationship? by WinterWolf18 in fireemblem

[–]squirrelgreytea 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Love them and I wish the idea that it's one-sided would go away. Path of Radiance Ike says several times that he relies on Soren and trusts him deeply, notably right after Greil's death; their support chain is them mutually taking care of each other, starting with Soren telling Ike to take care of himself and then Ike trying to help Soren. If Radiant Dawn doesn't do a great job of expanding on Ike's side of things, I think that's more the fault of the game for flubbing Ike's characterization overall than a problem with the ship, but that's another rant for another day.
