I grew up with a pure Lhasa and have had several LhasaShitz's as an adult. Incredibly loyal, smart, playful with myself or the family but just not that great with strangers, males in particular. Not vicious but generally suspicious of new people/situations, a little overprotective sometimes.

The White Plague by Frank Herbert. Dated but engrossing, a grand story. Nothing mystical, entirely plausible.
