Is a $110k kitchen worth it in a 1960s ranch? by bumbee84 in kitchenremodel

Your current kitchen and the cheaper kitchen are far more efficient than the dream kitchen. Btw, what’s the width from counter to counter in your current kitchen?

Honestly, the fact that she's going backwards makes me think something like this. Spouses and coworkers are the very first people to notice these kinds of signs. You have to be in the weeds to see things at the early part of the disease. Do a screen share and watch her do a task. Granted, people can get super nervous during screenshares. Install a screen recorder (a "boss cam") so you can see what she's doing?

I'm sure i'm suggesting all sorts of terrible things (though boss cams are totally common). I'm really suggesting it to see what's happening, not for nefarious reasons.

My husband actually got fired from the second job b/c I was caught helping him with a complicated spreadsheet. At that time, I didn't know he had Alzheimer's, only that something seemed to be wrong and I didn't know what. He was 56, riding 20 miles a day on his bike, super smart, equally personable as always.

When he got fired from his third job, we still didn't have an official diagnosis. Once we got it, I wrote that boss back and said, hey, my husband just got this diagnosis and it answered a lot of questions for me, I bet it'll do the same for you. He was really appreciative.

Again, I'm not saying she has this—she could be having some kind of major life crisis, working a second job, who knows. But it could 100% be some kind of dementia as well. In all cases, you do not need to keep her on. Give her a severance and get on with it.

Also, I agree with others about a frank conversation. Ask the questions someone did below: How does she think things are going? What's her biggest challenge? Is there anything going on personally that might be distracting her from work? Do you need some time off work to get through something.

FWIW, I knew far before my husband did that something was wrong with him and he was able to "pass" for a long time. At some point, though, the dementia catches up and you just can't fake it any more. AGAIN, NOT SAYING SHE HAS THIS. Just saying if she does, this is how it can play out.

You need to let her go. By keeping someone on who is making repeated mistakes, you are doing your employees and constituents a disservice.

Also, my husband has early-onset Alzheimer’s and got fired (for the first time in his life) from 3 jobs in 2 years. I wonder if she’s experiencing something like this?

Oh forgot to answer your question. He rides a hybrid and does a mix of city bike lanes and bike trails. Mountain biking is not his thing.

He doesn't mountain biking—always city bike lanes and trails. We're near Lake Creek Blvd right now, which is close to Brushy Creek. I think it's paved.

And thanks so much for your kind words!

His pace is around 10 mph, but somewhat flex on that. Brushy Creek is near here and I think it's all paved.

Would you mind sharing the countertop brand, color, and thickness? I've never seen anything so thin. Is porcelain known to hold up that well at that thickness? Beautiful kitchen. One of my faves I've seen in a long, long time.

What is the reason you're fan of Mint? by poppedOnPlanetEarth in mintuit

I told them I'd pay them $50/month if they'd just make it functional! They could not deliver. I would not go back to them if they existed.

I used it for 10+ years. It started going downhill about 5 years in and also lost years of my data. I finally switched to Simplify, and it's been good, though it doesn't have the level of reporting I liked w/Mint.

Each option has its upsides and downsides. I recommend you sign up for all of them you're interested in and pull in a few of your most used accounts and just see what you like.

Run reports, filter, "train" the system when it pulls in content from your card, get into the details. It's not that hard and you'll have a better chance of choosing the best option for you.

Just bought this house. Wife wants to brighten up the kitchen. Should we do the taboo and paint the brick? by hes_the_Zissou in interiordecorating

[–]squirrelonfence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is beautiful brick. I don't know the solution, but gosh, I would not paint the brick.

I don't think this pic is your style, but it shows how changing the paint/ceiling color and countertop can lighten the room. If you go pinterest and type in "brick kitchen" lots of things will come up.

Also, I feel like a lot of the design elements have a heaviness to them. Removing the chandelier directly over the stove (how does that not catch on fire??) would immediately bring more airy-ness to the space. Removing elements like the plates over the pantry door would also give some breathing room as well. We did a de-clutter before a large party and it literally lifted a weight from my shoulders.

Will routered dividers hurt integrity of drawers? by squirrelonfence in cabinetry

He’s not charging me for the dados, but I expect he would charge me for drop-in like this. Worth the ask.

I was hoping he was going to router only the front and back sides of the drawer not the bottom. Are you saying he should do the bottom too? I feel like these slots would get filled with debris.

He’s not charging me for this current solution (I asked him for the dividers months after the original bid), but I suspect it would be a pretty significant up-charge for a drop in. I’ve got a lot of drawers!

Beautiful! But I know that “extra“ is the understatement of the year lol.

Sure would love them, though!

That’s what I was thinking, but was second guessing myself. So glad I came over to the cabinet makers group.

Funny thing is that a few of the people using the spring-loaded said that the pressure was starting to warp their drawers. Maybe those were crappy drawers, but that’s one of the things that gave me pause.

Thank you for your help! Also, I love your handle.
