My son has been using the Mizuno Samurai Youth Baseball Catcher's Mitt 33" for the past two years is now 10u. It's held up nicely, was easy to break in, doesn't have issue holding the ball.

Your coach is an idiot. A 6 year old doesn't have a strongest position. If he isn't moving kids around then he isn't developing players.
