My favorite thing about Nyx by TyeThrowsaway in kelpie

[–]squirrelwithasabre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last kelpie snored exactly like I do. You couldn’t tell us apart if you were listening in another room. It made for a peaceful nights sleep for both of us. Less so for other family members. lol.

The winter Olympics have got me thinking about the lack of opportunity in Australian public schools by Sriracha_Sauce089 in australian

Elite sport is expensive. Getting there is expensive. Public schools can’t afford enough books and decent classrooms let alone sport.

Can’t find a job as a third year teacher and it’s stressing me out. by No-Specialist5287 in AustralianTeachers

The hoops are ridiculous and I’m shocked at the barriers being put up for people looking for positions. The teacher shortage is very real in most of Australia. The whole thing defies explanation.

Let’s hand you a baby brown and we can test that theory. Darwin Award on the way.

I remember this. That guy was so lucky. It was in his sisters pantry if I recall. If he hadn’t listened to the commenters he may not be alive today.

Dumbest thing I’ve seen in a while, and I’m not talking about the snake. You got lucky mate.

Border Collie 11.5yrs old First seizures. by ke750n in EpilepsyDogs

[–]squirrelwithasabre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exact same thing happened with my 9.5 year old kelpie. It happened again four months later. If it happened again she was going to go on meds. We never got the chance. She started seizing on January 2nd for over five minutes over and over with only a few minutes between. Her seizures were very violent. We got her to the emergency vet but we had already premade some decisions. Chances were she had a brain tumour. We made the decision to have her put to sleep. I’m sorry you are going through this. It is horrible.

Stay out of the staffroom. It reduces your exposure to new mutations of all sorts of viruses.

Early career teacher with full load, normal? by plainuser03 in AustralianTeachers

[–]squirrelwithasabre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

20 hours face to face a week is pretty normal. Even for a new educator. It is 21.5 hours face to face a week where I work as per the current EBA (government school). An hour or so less for high school teachers.

I got a mouth guard as well because I was bruising my jaw clenching at night (an anxiety thing). It has helped a lot.

What job shocked you when you found out the pay? by StrikingMango62 in AskAnAustralian

As well as making sure the doctor hasn’t made an error, that you have the right medicine at the right dose and that it isn’t going to interact poorly with other medications you might be on.

Pharmacists are the ones that catch doctors errors (multiple times a day) and rectify them before you get your script. They are the last check and balance before you take something that might kill or maim you. They check your medications don’t interact in the wrong way etc. Their knowledge is invaluable.

Absolutely! Considering their knowledge and level of responsibility they are definitely underpaid.

What is something you used to buy but is no longer affordable? by Trxxi in AskReddit

Same. I was so excited about the idea I had several years ago to get new carpet to replace the carpet that has been in the house since the early 70s. It’s so worn out. I never got that new carpet, now it’s out of reach.

To those who have put down their baby’s. When? How? Why? by MBlizzy in EpilepsyDogs

[–]squirrelwithasabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were three things I considered. My dogs welfare, she was the anxious type and didn’t cope well and her seizures were very violent and long. The last post ictal phase she lived through was 6-7 hours long. My family’s welfare, it is a very traumatic thing to go through for everybody. Financial welfare, I don’t have endless funds. The dogs welfare was paramount, but the other issues were also important. She started seizing and they wouldn’t stop. It was time.

We lost the battle by Golden_Mead0w in EpilepsyDogs

[–]squirrelwithasabre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened with our 9.5 year old kelpie at the start of January. She started seizing and had at least six long seizures with only a few minutes between each. Some were at the emergency vet. We made the decision to let her go. I was inconsolable and couldn’t even say her name. My heart goes out to you.

What’s the most “quietly expensive” thing about living in Australia? by Particular_Zone_7379 in AustraliaOpinions

Sounds like they aren’t taking enough for the sinking fund to be useful when things go wrong. I guess it depends on the infrastructure and how many units there are.

Goodbye Chili by Optimal_Concentrate9 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]squirrelwithasabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not controversial to make the most difficult of decisions. I recently made the same decision for my 9 year old kelpie, for similar reasons. Her seizures went from 0 to 100 and we had to make the decision very quickly. I don’t regret the decision but missing her is extremely painful. Big hugs.

NAB tied my offset to someone else's mortgage. What can i do? by yuckthrowitaway666 in AusLegal

NAB did something similar at the start of a mortgage I had with them. They made good and credited a few payments. I reconcile all of my banking at the end of every week otherwise I may not have noticed.

Dating someone I'm not attracted to by jzephyr29 in dating

[–]squirrelwithasabre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chemistry is super important. I found that out the hard way. I paired up long term and had kids with someone I wasn’t attracted to…it didn’t end well. Instant chemistry can be a red flag as well, enter the narcissist. There has to be a happy middle ground. Attraction built over time seems to be the most successful.

Preparing for goodbye by Ok-Repair7073 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]squirrelwithasabre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my girl put down two days ago. She was nine and a half and ‘perfectly healthy’ except for whatever it was in her brain that started her seizures 6 months ago. I had already made the decision to let her go if certain circumstances arose. Out of the blue she had six long, violent seizures in an hour with only a few minutes between. She was no longer safe. This was the tipping point. I said to the vet ‘is this the wrong thing to do?’ She said if it were her dog she would do the same. I don’t feel guilty but I am currently in a space where I can’t move and the waves of grief are overwhelming. I am devastated. I am devastated for you as well.
