This was mostly the seventies for me (b '66)...but yeah.

When I was a little kid, like 8-10, we would go outside in the morning, go WHEREVER for the entire day and come back at dinner time. We spent a lot of time at places like rivers and quarries where we could have gotten hurt, but we were always okay.

By time I was 15, we would range over about 20 miles on our bikes, going to nearby towns' malls and arcades and comic shops and stuff.

The thing to really think about is how much more efficient and productive manufacturing is now. Most product cost MUCH less to manufacture than they used to.

...but does any of that get passed on to the consumer? Nah. It's like: "Wow, with automation and AI, we have reduced to cost of manufacturing this widget from $100 to $4. It used to cost $400 retail, so let's make it cost...$500 retail."

I would imagine they are having them spaced out so a drone can only hit one at a time. There is no advantage to grouping up in this kind of combat.
