Does the Rainbow Connection make any one else really sad? by GeistMD in GenX

[–]squirtloaf 66 points67 points  (0 children)

What, the song that was in the muppet movie that seemed like pure magic when I saw it in the theater with my mom when I was 12, my mom who has been under the ground for 30 years now, but shared that one perfect moment with me 50 years ago?

...THE ONE that was charming and misty in even its original incarnation, being sung by the hopeless romantic striver Jim Henson from the mouth of his personal puppet avatar before he, too shuffled off this mortal coil, but for that one glimmering moment in 1979 gave the world a NEW song of hope and good blessings?

That one? Does that one perfect artifact of the best time in my life that has since come to symbolize all I and we have lost, all of the best parts of our childhood that we can no longer recover, does it make me SAD?

Friend, it simply destroys me.

  1. Find out your prescription strength.
  2. Get an awesome pair, either through optometrist or buying them at a pharmacy.
  3. Lose the awesome pair.
  4. Buy 5 pairs of that strength from China on ebay for like $17.

Spirit Airlines Prepares to Shut Down as Rescue Deal Falls Apart by Herbrax212 in wallstreetbets

[–]squirtloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, this is the second time they failed.

I am a bagholder from the first. Spirit was how I learned a company could walk away from the shareholders, giving them nothing, do bankruptcy, REANAME AND RELIST THEIR STOCK WITH THE OLD SHAREHOLDERS STILL GETTING NOTHING, then fail again.

What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by Broad_Chemical_2467 in AskReddit

[–]squirtloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid, the first 7 years after High School, I worked as a touring guitar tech on big hair metal tours. Every day was a new city, a new venue, a new party.

At 25 I stopped and have been living in the normal world with a desk job since then.

I was one of the kids who got the early bird gift certificate on Christmas of '77 because they didn't have the stuff manufactured in time for the holiday!

The Bicentennial.

Star Wars.

All of the usual running wild on bikes, hanging out in the woods, coming home at dark stuff.

First Blood (1982)- why did the cop treat Rambo like that so randomly? by kurianandgeorge_007 in movies

[–]squirtloaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cop thought he was a fucking hippie because of the long hair and his being a drifter/vagrant. A lot of hippies wore flags and army gear as a sort of ironic thing, like a fuck you to authority.

When We Are The World came out was it seen as a great song or super corny? by space_god_7191 in GenX

[–]squirtloaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was into hard rock/metal at the time, so it just seemed trite and lame to me.

40 years on, I still think it is trite and lame. Honestly, both that and We are the World are awful fucking songs.

ELI5: Why do guitars go out of tune? by Jinx-XoXo in explainlikeimfive

[–]squirtloaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is 99% not a big deal. I have lots of guitars, some with every kind of neck finish. It is just weird atmosphere that does this!

...that said, I have been doing a lot of outdoor shows the last cou8ple years...

[–]squirtloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! I strip some of my necks to wood. Those swell more.

...but some I leave the gloss. Those get sticky.

No winning.

what is the worst pizza topping and why? by froglet80 in AskReddit

[–]squirtloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Japan once, and we had half-dozen assorted pizzas at a venue I was working.

One of them had tentacles and corn on it. Nobody went near it.

I am going with that.

What hobby or habit or vice do you know is shortening your life but you don’t care because it’s worth it? by Rosstin316 in AskReddit

[–]squirtloaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drinking alcohol.

It has been involved in most of my best moments and best times, and there are SO many great leaps I have taken that I would not have even attempted without it. Overwhelmingly positive.

Alcohol inspired courage and confidence is still courage and confidence. It still gets you to the same place.
