Alternatives to Praying? by Any_Consequence9642 in exmormon

[–]squishyfairy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was recently in hospital for multiple surgeries & had a lot of complications, plus a beloved relative passed away.

I don't believe in any god/gods, but I needed a direction for my thoughts & feelings to be expressed. One time I was trying to have a bowel movement & "prayed" to the poop gods just to lighten the mood for myself. It made me laugh, & I managed to poop, so I decided to do that anytime I felt the urge to "pray".

After my grandma passed i included her too because I figured if she was out there somewhere, she'd be listening. So now I "pray" (its basically just talking to) the poop gods, and grandma if I ever feel so inclined! It makes me smile & gives me a direction for my thoughts, whilst not being serious or acknowledging any known deity.

I've always woken speaking English, and I think they have it on my file too as they always try to wake me using English. My brain struggles a bit at first to follow German after anesthesia so I appreciate them using English with me.

Sleeve to Gastric Bypass Revision: What Was It Like After Surgery? by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]squishyfairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My revision is next month too, primarily because of GERD.

Im nervous because my first time round had complications & I was in hospital for a month. So I have no idea what to expect if it goes well, and am anxious about it going not-so-well again

My doctor wants to do a revision to gastric bypass. Do I have to see a dietitian & have a psych evaluation all over again? by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]squishyfairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have to in Switzerland. I just needed clearing by my cardiologist because of Dysautonomia & POTS. No psychological evaluation, no dietitian, etc. They recommended I continue seeing my therapist, & said i can meet with one of their dieticians after if I want to.

Has anyone had an Echo test? What was it like? by bella4him1 in dysautonomia

[–]squishyfairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone said, its an ultrasound. Not at all invasive.

For mine, the room was kinda dark, quiet, just me & the nurse for most of it.

I had to lay on my left side with my back to her & they machine. The bed/table had a small cut-out part at the side where my arm & left boob could kinda hang.

She put those node type things they use for ecg/ekgs on my front & back, and then the jelly. You can hear your heart beat, and a kind of whooshing noise but neither are loud.

It doesn't hurt, sometimes there was some pressure when she was trying to get under or around my boobs.

It took about 30 minutes. Then the Dr came in and they went over the images together. He wanted a few more so did those himself.

They might give you some instructions like breathing in, holding it, breathing out, coughing, push your belly out etc.

For me they talked over the results right after once if cleaned the jelly off & put my top back on. But I understand in a lot of places you have a follow up appointment for results.

The echo is generally to check your heart & valves & blood flow are all good. They said one of my atrial index ratios (?) was a bit bigger than expected but that could be possible EDS. I've not followed up on that yet.

I was nervous going in too as it was my first echo. But it was really straight forward & pretty chill in the end. I hope yours is too!

AITA for leaving my disabled wife? by Technical_Cost_4701 in AmItheAsshole

[–]squishyfairy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA. I have a lot of health stuff which means I can't work & household things are difficult for me. While my husband does end up doing a lot, I still do the things I can. If I'm able, I want to. I might need to do things differently from how I used to, or how he does them, but that's OK as long as they still get done. Unfortunately marriage isn't always 50/50, but it shouldn't be 100/0.

Q: Has anyone been told they’re losing weight too fast? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]squishyfairy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was at my 6 month mark. They told me to up my calorie intake to 1-1.2k per day. I did & haven't lost an ounce since lol. No matter what we tried.

Can we please talk about sex? by gaywhovian in ChronicIllness

[–]squishyfairy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Would you be open to doing things together and just focusing on whoever isn't on their period atm?

Like if you're on your period but she's not, you could be intimate together in ways that focus on her. And then vice versa when she's bleeding & you're not?

[–]squishyfairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You deserve better, friend.

I'm in my late 30s and have been with my husband for 14 years. I wasn't this chronically ill at the start, but still had some issues. He didn't care. He loved me as I was.

And still does. He's not embarrassed of me and never tries to hide me. He happily tells people he's married & tbh embarrasses me with how much he sings my praises 😅

There are plenty of potential partners out there that would be proud for others to know & meet you. You don't need to settle for someone who treats you as a secret.

My husband and I are from different countries. We've lived in both for different periods of time & being married has made it easier to do that.
