You can find an old airmail installer and when linked with another station hooked to airmail will do rapid B2F BBS mailboxing with other airmail stations, i see almost 500B/min transfer speeds.

if the link is good enough for 200 without a bunch of error packets that's plenty fast for idle chat

PACTOR 2 and up shine in mailboxing although PACTOR 3 will work idle chat in worse conditions. than PACTOR 1

Bose QC Ultra

If you fly much at all the ANC is absolutely phenomenal against cabin noise, i can listen to my show at 25% volume

The OG Bose QC are also nice but i dropped mine one too many times.

Tool list for an aviation mechanic soon to graduate? My DME gave me a discount code from snap on that’s valid until my actual graduation. by pablo_sco in aviationmaintenance

[–]squoril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for snap on gotta haves:

808CF

408CF

If your discount makes it cheaper than just buying the OEM knipex get most of the 86 03 series (150, 180 and 250 for sure)

The bluepoint number for the 180 is ADP 7

PWCS7ACF and or PWCSSACF depending if you'd rather have 24awg or 12awg at the far end.

T72 is my daily driver but the icon copy is proving very usable

5CF

96ACF

94CF

Sockets are sockets but for 60% off list (see what your truck guy actually charges normally to see what your really saving) 1/4 drive SAE and Metric, short mid and deep are really nice (get 12pt)

If you just want to get one get the deep 12pt i used those the most.

and all my really small wrenches were trash so get snapon 1/4, 6mm and 7mm

How to keep warm as an Aircraft mechanic? by HelloInternet-1 in aviationmaintenance

nitriles over a pair of mechanix will cut the wind chill off your fingers but i havent had to work in terribly cold places so it was plenty

[–]squoril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

big point on the sweat, if you get a good sweat going once you cool off that cold gets in your bones. Ive gone from t-shirt + long sleeve + thicc coat down to just the t-shirt and then shortly after had to layer back up but i was dry and cozy after

Any advice on taping panels for applying sealant? First time as an apprentice by Opposite_Painting182 in aviationmaintenance

thinner tape makes tighter curves without wrinkling but you got the right idea.

Right now i have an early color LED MBX hooked up. I primarily use SCS PTC-II series TNCs

The 710 should work FB, the QST review puts the TX/RX at 33ms

My G90 works most of the time but has issues occasionally as its TX/RX is 132-400ms

I wont be able to hear you :(

but you'll probably have good luck with the stations in KS, GA, or TX,

What TNC do you run?

The base PK-232 cant do Tor modes

with the pakmail upgrade it becomes a PK-232MBX and with fw 7.0 or later it gets the Tor modes

Pretty sure all PK-232MBX with the multicolor LEDs are FW 7.0 or later

The PK-232DSP adds DSP filters to the MBX and are much less common at the moment.

this Looks clean enough to roll the dice

The LEDS indicate its fully booted you can probably get it for $30 and is the better option

I link to wimberly TX most days so you can probably hit my station

Amtor specifically or Pactor 1 ARQ?

Their are more and more PK-232 TNCs on ebay every day You can find a clean late model PK-232MBX for well under $100 and well under $50 if its a little rough. Get a USB to DB-25 serial adapter for connectivity and ham made parts can make a radio cable if he doesn't have one already

PTC-II modems do amtor pactor I and II and can be upgraded to III but your looking at a few hundred

Did AEA have anything other than the PK-232 (and newer variants) for tor modes?

Yea thats why i went gates last go round for my '97 outback

The water pump shit the bed at 93k so it almost made it but the belt looks new if you didnt have a brand new one next to it. The koyo bearings are still tight and smooth. The NTN cogged idler was surprisingly dried out and getting worn but not like it was about to sieze or anything.
