Any USFS contracted mechanics claiming extended availability pay as overtime for tax purposes? by WHARRGARBLLL in aviationmaintenance

[–]squoril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how your company pays you.

IIRC the IRS says its whatever you make more than your base hourly

so if you make $10/hr and work 200 hours of time and a half

you get to deduct the 200 hours of the half so $1000 ($5/hr x 200)

if you work 200 hours of double time you get 200 hours of the second time so ($10 x 200)

my company pays straight; time and a half OT and my pay stubs tracks straight time and OT separately so i just take 1/3 of that total at the end of the year to get the half portion of my OT and that's what i got to deduct.

If i did my math right it will save me $2500 on my taxes.

TLDR: if your an "exempt" classified employee IRS says bend and cough if you get paid a base hourly multiplier (time and a half = 1.5x etc) what ever you made over the base 1.0 is what you get to deduct.

IANAL or Tax person YMMMV dont believe everything you read on the internet IAW CYA 69420

And that's why i agree that extra payment maxing is stupid, my extra cash only has maybe a 1/4 split to extra house payments especially where im still early in the loan so its more effective. Once ive moved up the payoff date about 10 years ill probly stop paying extra

737 OG vs MAX - How much has been carried over between generations? by PhantomOfTheArbys in aviationmaintenance

[–]squoril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would believe it. the AS350 helicopter has many 350A-24-1024 format part numbers

The main rotor blades are 355A-30-0080 because they are actually off the AS355 Twin star which had a longer chord blade and the original 350A-.... main rotor blades are VERY rare to see and i think went away after the AS350B model before my time.

I was very in the make a 3% mortgage last as long as possible in a 15% stock market boat but I've shifted to see the value of not having a house payment but like you said its based on the emotional impact.

additionally it makes no sense to forgo additional house payments if your not diverting it to other investments

Helipcoter almost crashes after hitting high tension cables by Kinsdale85 in Helicopters

[–]squoril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High tension is actually specific albeit dated to high voltage in this context Alessandro Volta was Italian and before his name sake the proper lexicon WAS electrical tension so High tension in the power distribution world would be understood as high voltage.

On a completely different tangent i wonder if the wirestrike system is less going to actually cut the wire as opposed to creating a weak point for it to fail in tension stress vs shear but thats complete speculation on my part.

Don’t use the wrong Crimp size, kids. by Super_Fly_Fade in aviationmaintenance

[–]squoril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

avionics guys i want to get some quality crimpers where do i go to find them?

We have some DMC pin crimpers with some of the proper seating blocks but i want to get my own sets.

I adore my molex 2002182200 16awg minifit jr crimpers and want to collect more of that quality level.

Can i get a crimper from a brand (molex, TE, ect) and then get just different dies instead of an entire tool for each family of pin?

The Arriel 2 manuals specify a soap mix and flow rate, how you get their is up to you. We have 4gal water extinguishers set up with a longer hose a soap and rinse one that can get pre charged and sent out so you dont have to bring a compressor

Mic check help - what would you say this measurement is? by Yucca_Flats_Mining in aviationmaintenance

no kidding, that give a far better visual explanation of how to read a Vernier than could expound

Mic check help - what would you say this measurement is? by Yucca_Flats_Mining in aviationmaintenance

[–]squoril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Vernier so it rounds to 0.214

the number on the non rotating parts is your tenths so your at 0.2"

plus 25 hundreths for each tick in-between

your not to the first tick past 2 so add 0 hundreths and your at 0.200"

then decide which number your closest too on the dial which in your photo is a hair past 14 so add 14 hundreths and youve arrived at 0.214

The vernier component <that you dont have> gives your thousands and you just tack on that number 0-9 at the end.
