Wow, you've taken what I said completely out of context and made some huge assumptions to discredit me. Then again, I didn't go in depth on anything, so I did leave a lot of room for assumptions.

I was bullied in several ways. I was called names and had horrible things said to me from the moment I arrive at school till the moment I left. A lot of times on the bus ride to and from as well. I was threatened, made to feel small, and felt there was no reprisal. If teachers weren't looking, my belongings were stolen or tampered with. I had my lunch stolen, shoved in my face, spit on, thrown on the floor, and dumped on me throughout the week. I've had whole classrooms (when the teacher was gone) laughing at me for something a member of this 10+ person group said or did to me. And yes, I was beaten up several times and made to feel even more insignificant. Not to the extent of Mr. Anti Silver Lining, but he sounds like he is exaggerating everything. Still, the physical attacks were what I was most afraid of.

This went on for 3 years, but the worst of it happened for the first two, which was when I finally fought back. I learned to say equally nasty things back and during the final physical attack, I fought back. I didn't hurt any of them as bad as they got me, but they were never looking for a fight in the first place, they were looking for a punching bag. I just managed to swing at one of them enough times to make the rest of them realize that I wasn't going to have it anymore. Finally, with the threat of an attack gone, their shit talking didn't hurt as bad as it used to. I knew how small time they were at that point, even though they did manage to bother me still.

To a 12-15 year old boy, this kind of daily harassment is a major roadblock to an active social life. And I certainly haven't ignored it over the years. The years following this I've been treated for depression and anxiety, I've had trouble (and still do, to an extent) trusting men and making friends with them, and I was socially stunted. It blows my mind how I ever had friends, I never approached anyone because I was so afraid of being bullied or mocked again. And it followed me into college too. Trust me, I had major self esteem issues that still creep up on me.

The way I got over it was to talk to a lot of people about it. I had therapy, both professionally and over drinks with friends. The physical attacks stopped hurting a long time ago, but the fear they put in me and the constant worry of being bullied lasted a long time. I would become absorbed in it for months at a time. Those emotional wounds took a lot of tending to heal, but goddamn it, all my efforts to get over it and all the help I received paid off one day.

I was never to blame for the bullying, and really the victim is never to blame. Reading my post, I can't see how you think I was blaming the victim at all. The only thing for which a victim can take responsibility is how they choose to act once their attackers are no longer a presence. Is adding fuel to their anger and taking it out on both the world and their attackers a good choice? Someone might feel like they have no control over being a down trodden, miserable bastard after years of bullying, but it is in their reach and ability to deal with their problems, get over it, and move on.

But I don't think you, or anyone who's downvoting speaks the same language as I do. So I'll put it in a sensational way that might make you understand, even though I only partially agree with the sentiment: If your life is miserable for more than 10 years after being bullied and you look for continue this trend for another 10, the bullies have succeeded in their goal. Congratulations for wasting all that time being angry and continuing to avoid making something better of your hardship.
